Rocca del Brunelleschi - Vicopisano Pisa. Must See Sights italy

I had planned this trip last autumn but then we were put back in lockdown. so we replanned for spring...and the same thing happened! Finally at the end of September it looked like I was able to go but then I forgot a vital necessity.

Join me on my eventual road trip from Positano to Lucca where I stay with my long time friend @chefceline1 and visit the lovely Marie from @authentictuscany. We also have a couple of very unexpected last minute guests that you might know!

Back in TUSCANY! A visit to the Collectors Market in Vicopisano

#27: Yeah, we came back! We take a trip to Vicopisano, and wander through it's massive Collectors Market. It really is so huge, and is held every second Sunday of the month. We also wander about some parts of the old town too. Definitely worth a visit!

Vicopisano Tuscany Live Tour

What I Did On My Holidays Part 6: Went to Vicopisano, walked Volterra and shopped in Poggibonsi

Two days for the price of 1! The first day we went to Vicopisano and had a lovely home-cooked meal for lunch, followed by long chat. The weather was so much warmer in Vicopisano, and I didn't have any skin protection or a hat, so I burnt the head off myself! The second day, I walk about Volterra, and we shopped a little in Poggibonsi - I got an XBox for the apartment, which will serve not only as a gaming machine, but also as our streaming machine for Sky - so we can get telly from back home.

#59: Back to Vicopisano to check out their flower festival. We had a super-long lunch out and met a whole bunch of really lovely people.

The restaurant: 30 Metri Quadri (

Marie and Lorenzo: They have a wide variety of rooms and properties to let from. While we were eating, we met a lovely couple of Cork ladies who were staying in one of their properties.

Two Weeks Itinerary in Tuscany, Umbria and Rome | Italy Hidden Gems

We were invited to a friend’s beautiful Tuscany Italy wedding in late August. We used this invitation as the opportunity to rent a car and do a road trip to explore many towns in the region. We also visited Umbria and Rome Italy, for two weeks.

We stayed in Tuscany near the famous Val D’Orcia Italy region for the first one and a half weeks by renting an Airbnb apartment in Chiusi, a small but beautiful town in Tuscany on the border of Umbria. We used our base in Chiusi to travel to all the nearby towns we wanted to visit.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Itinerary of cities and towns visited in order shown in the video:

00:52 - Chiusi
02:21 - Florence
04:43 - Val D’Orcia
05:24 - Salcheto
05:30 - Montepulciano
06:13 - Pienza
06:45 - San Quirico D’Orcia
07:18 - Montalcino
08:00 - Abbey of Sant’Antimo
08:15 - Bagno Vignoni
08:39 - Monticchiello
08:58 - Siena
10:10 - Monteriggioni
10:18 - San Gimignano
11:14 - Castiglione del Lago/Lake Trasimeno
12:43 - Perugia
13:16 - Assisi
14:48 - Orvieto
15:01 - Rome
17:18 - Vatican City

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tips and Details:
- We received a Fiat Panda semi-automatic rental car that we don’t recommend. The car would take a few seconds to go after hitting the gas pedal. This would cause the car to slide back in the meantime when parked on a hill, which was pretty uncomfortable. It was the only non-manual car available and fully manual cars would probably have been better.
- Wine is very cheap. Five dollar wines are like 15-20 dollar wines in the states. More expensive wines, especially from local shops and wineries are so good that you can’t find them in the states!
- There were charming small shops and picturesque restaurants in Chiusi. Being on a budget however, we bought most of our food at a nearby supermarket called Pam Superstore (Pam Chiusi on Google Maps), which had everything we needed and local products to try at great prices. We bought the most expensive bottle of olive oil for about 10 dollars and it was the best olive oil we had anywhere.
- You can forgo your car at Chiusi Scalo train station or even visit the town without a car by jumping on a train to the town. You can also rent a car at the train station. We walked 25 minutes from our apartment in Chiusi to the train station and didn’t have to pay for parking at the station this way. Some people got fined for parking at the station since it wasn’t allowed.
- Although we saw so many places in two weeks, we recommend consolidating your itinerary and stick to one or two towns per day to get the most out of them. After seeing so many towns, they all start resembling one another, even though they all have very unique things about them that are easy to miss.
- Places we wanted to go to but didn’t: Parco dei Mulini hot springs, Viterbo, Volterra, Sarteano, Spello, Civita di Bagnoregio, San Marino
- Total budget for two weeks including accommodations ($100 per night for entire, large apartments), car rental ($20 per day), gas (not sure but less than $250), food (not sure but less than $500), and train ($100) was under $3,000. This does not include airfare.

Vicopisano

CLIMBING A MIDDLE AGES CLOCK TOWER IN PISA | PISA VACATION | Tuscany

CLIMBING A MIDDLE AGES CLOCK TOWER IN PISA | PISA VACATION | Tuscany

The main thing that drives tourists to Pisa is usually to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa but truly there are other hidden GEMS OF PISA city. Today we'll be climbing a Middle Ages Clock Tower in Vicopisano.

The Clock Tower is one of the most beautiful and unusual towers in Vicopisano. Various elements contribute to making it interesting: its age, its remarkable height, the presence of the complete set of brackets that once supported the wooden ‘sporto’, and its use as a bell tower.

It can be dated back to the middle of the 12th century, with the addition of corner brick pillars around the 17th century. The tower, with a trapezoidal plan, is about 27 metres high and has a Verrucana stone wall structure.

It has a clock on the façade, while at the top there are two bronze bells that are still working. It was built for military purposes, as a control tower for the road leading to the castle of Vicopisano. Inside the tower there are five levels connected by a system of wooden stairs.

Home alone in Chianni - Up-cycling, Renovations, Vicopisano Antiques Market & Tuscan village life.

BUONGIORNO lovely friends and viewers!

Welcome to Tales from Tuscany!
We are Marisa and David, Australian expats now living part-time in Chianni Tuscany.
During the Global Pandemic, we decided to buy our Italian dream home, sight unseen and with no prior knowledge of the area.
This is our journey and we are taking you along with us!

TODAY'S VLOG...
Left home alone in Chianni, I get stuck into little projects, like up-cycling shelves, painting walls, taking another trip my favourite Antiques market at Vicopisano with my friend Jason and ease myself into village life without my love David.

It's a challenge that I enjoy and I soon find my rhythm and knuckle down into what needs to be done. Fortunately, our long awaited bespoke bed arrives (poor David. never saw it) and life suddenly becomes more comfortable.

As more items arrive at the house, a sense of belonging and warmth start to fill these lovely old walls. I'm really happy with our choices and am excited about what is still to come.
Happy days!

As always, we hope you enjoy the time you spend with us, as much as we love having you with us!

PISA ITALY ( The Most Historical City in Tuscany )

Arno River is about 6 miles (10 km) from the Ligurian Sea and 50 miles (80 km) west of Florence. Pisa lay by the sea until the 15th century, by which time accumulated silt deposited by the Arno River had completely cut the city off from the receding shoreline.
Ancient Pisa, or Pisae, was possibly inhabited by the Ligurians before passing under Roman control as a naval base. It became a Roman colony shortly after 180 BCE and by 313 CE had become a Christian bishopric. Pisa survived the collapse of the Roman Empire to remain the principal urban center of Tuscany. Exploiting its sea power and the products and markets of its fertile Tuscan hinterland, the city revived in the 11th century to become a flourishing commercial center. With the help of Genoa, it also took the initiative against Muslim raiders. In 1016 the Pisans and Genoese drove the Saracens from Sardinia, and in 1063 the Pisan fleet sacked Muslim Palermo. The city’s participation in the Crusades secured valuable commercial positions for Pisan traders in Syria, and thereafter Pisa grew in strength to rival Genoa and Venice. In the 13th century, Pisa, a Ghibelline city, enjoyed the support of the German emperors in its long conflicts with Genoa at sea and with its Tuscan rivals, Lucca and Florence, on land. These struggles culminated in Pisa’s defeat by the Genoese fleet at the decisive Battle of Meloria in 1284.
Despite this defeat, Pisa became a busy center of woolen manufacturing late in the 13th century and remained the chief port of Tuscany. Pisan prosperity was reflected in the characteristic casatorre, a tall inhabited tower usually built of brick and stone, and in the city’s churches, particularly the grandiose and spectacular group of the cathedral, baptistery, and campanile (the leaning tower). The cathedral and the baptistery were decorated by a succession of distinguished sculptors, including Guglielmo Pisano, Bonanno Pisano, Nicola Pisano, and Nicola’s son Giovanni Pisano.
Pisa is now a quiet provincial university town that is renowned for its art and architectural treasures. The city also retains much of its 6.5-mile (10.5-kilometer) circuit of walls. Pisa is distinguished above all by a remarkable group of buildings in the Piazza del Duomo, the so-called Square of Miracles, located at the northwestern end of the medieval walled city. This piazza contains the cathedral, or Duomo; the baptistery; the campanile, or Leaning Tower of Pisa; and the Camposano, or cemetery.
