The Gargano is one of the most scenic parts of the southern Italian region of Puglia. It feels very different from others more visited areas such as Salento, with mountains with lush pine forests, olive groves, and a dramatic coastline of white limestone cliffs, colourful sea caves, and long sandy beaches.
The Gargano Peninsula just out into the Adriatic Sea and is called the spur in the heel of Italy’s boot. Most of the area is a national park, and aside from some seaside resorts, is unspoilt. It’s a popular summer spot for Italians, but in the off season you can have the beaches, forests, and hill towns to yourself.

Vico del Gargano is in the Gargano National Park and charms with its original traditions and magnificent seashore.
Located in the heart of the Gargano National Park, about 6 km (3.5 miles) away from the sea and 10 km (6 mi) away from the Umbra Forest, Vico is one of Italy's Most Beautiful Towns.
The town centre is dominated by a castle and by the massive dome of the Colleggiata dell'Assunta. This ancient district, known as the Rione Civita, is a triumph of stone with its chimneys, archways, capitals, stairways, and underground chambers carved out of the rock. Wander through the narrow twisting alleys, explore the medieval quarters of Terra and Casale, and let the Palazzo della Bella enchant you with its refined silhouette. If you're with the one you love, make sure to visit the Vicolo del Bacio (Kiss Alley).
Outside the town, the wonders continue with the Necropolis, an important archaeological site on the Mount Tabor plateau. The Umbra Forest, an immense spread of oak, beech and yew trees and typical arbutus (fruit-bearing shrubs), is ideal for outdoor activities. You'll find riding centres, trekking paths and a thick pine grove that leads down to the wonderful seashore between San Menaio and Calenelle.
Don’t miss the evocative Festa di San Valentino (Saint Valentine Festival), held to celebrate the town’s patron saint and Protector of citrus groves and lovers. During the festivities, a traditional procession passes through the streets of Vico, accompanying a statue of the Saint decorated with oranges and their flowers.

Vieste is the easternmost town on the Gargano promontory, situated in the National Park, halfway between Vieste and the wonderful coastline of Mattinata.
Vieste has a historic medieval centre, a charming maze of ancient houses and narrow alleyways studded with typical souvenir shops and craft shops. After you've explored this ancient district, visit the Castle and the Cathedral, and then stroll down to Piazzetta Petrone, a small square with a remarkable coastal view.
The Pearl of Gargano charms with its silvery pink sand, limpid, crystal clear waters, long beaches, cliffs and 26 sea caves. The sea also stars at the Malacological Museum, which has more than 15 thousand shells from all over the world.
The coastline, a continuous series of inlets and coves, features must-see beaches at Vignanotica, Castello, San Lorenzo, the Bay of San Felice (with an “architello”, a natural stone archway over the sea), and Punta Lunga. After an afternoon on the beach, the smell of the sea also hangs over dinner at the trabucchi, traditional fishing huts, housing charming restaurants over the Adriatic.

Sono finalmente tornato a visitare la Puglia dopo 2 anni!! In questo primo video io e mia sorella andiamo alla scoperta del Gargano, staremo qui 4 giorni e cercheremo di scoprire quali sono le principali attrazioni da visitare in questa bellissima zona della Puglia!
Il Gargano corre per circa 200 km lungo il tratto costiero a nord est della regione. Incastonati lungo tutta la scogliera a strapiombo sul mare, si possono osservare e visitare graziosi borghi e incantevoli paesini avvolti dalla magia e da antiche leggende. A impreziosire il territorio sono le numerose grotte, i castelli, i santuari e gli scorci paesaggistici che regalano alla vista vere e proprie opere d’arte degne dei migliori artisti.

The presence of man has been documented since the most remote antiquity on the territory of Vichese. Palaeolithic, Neolithic and Eneolithic stations and sites are present almost everywhere.
According to the historiographical tradition, the present-day inhabited center would have had an origin similar to that of nearby Peschici, that is, the work of Schiavoni (slavs) mercenary soldiers who came from the eastern coasts of the Adriatic.
The Schiavoni, after having settled near an Iron Age necropolis located on a hill called Tabor, mingled with the local residents gathered in a single fortified center which was called Vico.
Also according to this tradition, the town was founded in 970 AD by the legendary slav leader Sueripolo who, in the service of the Byzantines (or of Otto I), had expelled the Saracen pirates from the Gargano who had transformed it into their lair.
However, the first official document attesting the presence of a Castrum Vici on the Gargano dates back to 1113 when the area was part of the Norman Duchy of....

Przedstawiamy ciąg dalszy naszej wielkiej chowacko-włoskiej objazdówki.
Dziś włóczymy się po Vico del Gargano:)
FIlmik ten to relacja z kolejnej odwiedzonej przez nas miejscówki we Włoszech. Do miasteczka Vico del Gargano zawitaliśmy na dosłownie dłuższą chwilę, w drodze z Peschici do Civitanova Marche, gdzie mamy kolejny nocleg. A stamtąd będziemy kierować się prosto do fantastycznego Asyżu.
Miasteczko mimo, że niewielkie, to bardzo nas zachwyciło, jest mega urokliwe i klimatyczne. Stara część przypomina średniowieczną osadę, i można odnieść wrażenie, jakby było uśpione czy wymarłe.
Przespacerowaliśmy się uliczkami i zaułkami, odkryliśmy Aleję Zakochanych, a na koniec w lokalnej pizzerii skosztowaliśmy prawdziwe, tradycyjne paposci. Sami zobaczycie cóż to za pyszności:)
