There's much more to British Columbia (BC) than nature-hugging dioramas, though. Cosmopolitan Vancouver fuses cuisines and cultures from Asia and beyond, while mid-sized cities such as Victoria and Kelowna are increasingly creating their own vibrant scenes. It's also hard to beat the welcoming, sometimes quirky character of smaller communities – from Cumberland to Powell River and Salt Spring – that are the beating heart of BC.

TOP BEACHES IN VERNON, BC

We might be 400 odd kilometres from the coast but that doesn't stop the Okanagan from being a serious competitor when it come's to hosting the most picturesque beaches in Canada. These stunning spots have everything you could possibly want from beach (minus waves, if you're into that) - sand, crystal clear water, green grass, picnic tables and plenty of sunshine. Perhaps the coolest part of the whole deal is that until today, we had only ever seen these lakes in their much colder, much whiter, hockey rink form. This was a refreshing change. Enjoy! ????

That being said, the winter in Kelowna is not much different from the winter in Vernon! The city of Vernon is small, but has all that you need and in our opinion is one of the best cities in BC to move to! If you’re considering moving to Kelowna, or moving to the Okanagan in general, we recommend considering moving to Vernon, BC if you haven’t already.

➤ ABOUT US: Hi! We’re Nick & Raychel, the couple behind the blog Not Luxe - where we write travel guides & help people open their eyes to alternative living, whether that be teaching English online, moving to Cambodia, taking advantage of working holiday visas (like in Australia) or building a DIY stealthy camper van to live & work on the road. Right now, we’re living the van life and travelling safely in our own backyard of British Columbia in Canada.

Our goal here is to bring you weekly content where we hope to inspire you to break free & live the life you desire. On Thursdays, we talk everything from finances to minimalism to working online to mindset and on Sundays, we post a weekly vlog of our daily lives. We hope you join us on our journey to see the world, save money, live minimally, and most importantly, have fun.
