VEITSHÖCHHEIM. A lovely town at the river Main with some famous places to see. (Germany)

Welcome back. Today we visited the town called Veitshöchheim, loceated at the district of Wurzburg at Lower Franconia at the federal state Bavaria at Germany. Veitshöchheim is maybe unknown, but the town and the region have some things which made the place popular to visit and famous. Find out more in my video what is like to visit a town at the river Main with some interesting places.

The tour through Veitshöchheim:
I visited the town Veitshöchheim at a sunny day in the autumn time. I knew this place only from the carnival TV show which came one time at the year at the carnival time. I went step by step to the different places with the begin at the residence park via the church, some streets. I visited the nice promenade at the river Main and at last the big Franconian Hall which is loceated also at the river. I self-have never been at the carnival TV show but for most of the Bavarian and German people is this TV podcast the best show at the carnival time.
A half an hour later I went by car up to the geographic central place of the European Union. This place was loceated two kilometers far away of Veitshöcheim at the countryside and is only to arrive by foot or bike. I walked to this place and spent the time there with some other people like with families with children. Veitshöchheim is a nice small town and became known with the carnival and the residence park in my opinion.

About the town Veitshöchheim:
The town “Veitshöchheim” with the true name Veitshöchheim is a town loceated at the district of Wurzburg at the north part of the federal state Bavaria in Germany. The town is not big and has a population of 10 410 according to the year 2021. The biggest place and one thing which made the town famous is the large residence park included with a nice Baroque castle. The park has open nearly every day at the year and is known for its big lake and fountain. The second place which made Veitshöchheim known or famous is the huge hall at the river Main where the Bavarian TV organized every year at the carnival time a show with a lot of artists music and cabaret.
Two kilometers far away of the town, at the countryside is the geographic central place of the European Union. The place is unknown, but it is rentable to make a hiking tour from Veitshöchheim to this place.

The carnival shows of the Bavarian TV called “Fastnacht in Franken”:
One time at the year at the Franconian Main Hall the Bavarian TV organized the show called “Fastnacht in Franken”. This show is for people at the TV at home, both for political people from Germany and other Germany speaking countries the best show in the carnival time. At the stage are coming the famous cabaret couple Heißmann and Rassau from Fürth, the “Altneihausner Feuwerwherkapelle”, Michl Müller and a lot of more. Search on Google “Fastnacht in Franken”.

The Würzburg Residence is a palace in Würzburg, Germany.
Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt and Maximilian von Welsch, representatives of the Austrian/South German Baroque style, were involved in the construction, as well as Robert de Cotte and Germain Boffrand, who were followers of the French Style.
Interiors considered masterworks of Baroque/Rococo or Neoclassical architecture and art include the grand staircase, the chapel, and the Imperial Hall.
The building was reportedly called the largest parsonage in Europe by Napoleon.
It was heavily damaged during World War II, and restoration has been in progress since 1945.
Since 1981, the Residence has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Residence was constructed on a baseplate of 92 × 167 meters.
The main structure consists of a central wing with two side wings, the north and south blocks, each with two interior courts.
The Residence has four floors, a high-ceiling ground and upper floor with a mezzanine floor above each.
These served to enliven the façade and offered room for servants' quarters, kitchens and administrative offices.
The residence has almost 400 rooms.
In Baroque style, the staircase gained importance as part of a formal reception room.
The staircase of the Würzburg Residence spans its vault, an area of 18 × 32 meters, without pillars.
Beneath an unsupported trough vault, a masterpiece of construction with a maximum height of 23 meters.
The lowest part of the stair leads away from the reception hall, towards a blank wall and then splits into two stairs which double back.
The Weisser Saal or White Hall in Rococo style was the audience chamber and is dominated by the stucco decorations of Antonio Bossi.
The white stucco works on a light gray background are composed of a large quantity of rocailles, mixed with images of real items, especially of military purpose.
The lack of gold and colour allows the eye to rest between the splendours of the staircase and the Kaisersaal beyond.
Five crystal chandeliers were used to light the room.
The gardens and representative rooms described above are open to the public.
A memorial room is dedicated to the Residence's destruction in March 1945.
Most of the rest of the residence is occupied by the Martin von Wagner Museum (moved here in 1963) and organizations of the University of Würzburg.

Rococo Gardens in Veitshöchheim, Bavaria

The Rococo Garden in Veitshöchheim belongs to the castle of the city. This was used by the prince bishops of Würzburg as summer residence. From a flower garden garden architects finally developed the Rococo garden. However, we hardly discover flowers on our tour. Only wildflowers sprout in one of the garden spaces framed by hedges. Flower borders are missing. Instead, wide paths lead through the park. A pond with fountains in the middle of the park also embodies the garden splendor of the Rococo. The park is also divided by hedges into garden rooms. These adorn more than 200 sandstone sculptures. They represent figures of gods, allegories and animals dar. The garden rooms can be reached through green tunnels and finally reaches hidden pavilions.

Old Castle Stuttgart Germany

The Old Castle (German: Altes Schloss) is a former castle located on the Schillerplatz in Stuttgart, Germany. The castle, originally a water castle dating back to the 10th century, was the residence of the Counts and later some Dukes of Württemberg and today is the home of the Landesmuseum Württemberg. The castle church (German: Schloßkirche) still functions as a place of worship.

In the year 950 AD, a castle was completed on the grounds of the Old Castle to protect the mare garden. In the 14th century, it was the home of the Counts of Württemberg and their Court Chamber. From 1553-1578, Dukes Christoph and Louis III renovated the castle adding an equestrian staircase built by Blasius Berwart in 1560 and the church and conference room in 1562. In the 18th century, the moat was filled.

In 1931, the castle's dirnitz and two towers were destroyed by fire. The castle again saw damage, large parts of the ethnographic collection of the Landesmuseum Württemberg falling victim to fire, during World War Two before being renovated in 1971. Paul Schmitthenner renovated the castle in 1971.

The arcaded courtyard of the castle itself shows architectural motifs of early Italian Renaissance.

King Charles I of Württemberg and his wife Olga are buried beneath the castle church. The inner courtyard houses a monument to Eberhard I. The Old Castle stands adjacent to its replacement, the New Castle, which was built in the late 18th century.

On the Karlsplatz side of the Old Castle is a museum dedicated to the memory of Claus von Stauffenberg a former resident of Stuttgart who attempted to assassinate Adolf Hitler on 20 July 1944.

Infos:
