Valparaiso, is the county seat of Porter County, Indiana, United States.
The population, of this town. is around 32 thousand.
The site of present day Valparaiso, was included in the purchase of land, from the Potawatomi Indians, by the U.S. Government, in October 1832.
There are a number of things you can do in Valpo in summer.
To mention a few.
Popcorn festival,
Summer Jam,
The great downtown tailgate,
Valpo brew fest,
Eat-up, Wine down,
Outdoor movies,
Fall harvest festival.
And don’t forget to visit the Indiana dunes beach, it is a great place to be.

Valparaiso Travel Guide - Exploring Chile's Cultural Capital Video Transcript:
So, hello from Valparaiso. That means paradise on the valley. We have a few days to explore the city and we're planning to do most of it on foot. Yes, and most of it is going up hills as well. And there is so much cool street art here. So we're going to be taking a few different walking tours while we're in town. Today we're doing the first one which should be an overview of the city. And it should be fun. So we're going to take you on a little guided tour of Valparaiso. Yee-haw!
To say Valparaiso is a bit hilly would be an understatement. The city is a maze of steep inclines which means the best way to get around and save your legs for sightseeing, is by riding up and down the funiculars. It might seem a bit daunting considering some of these are well over a hundred years old, but they still do the job.
And this is our friend the pup who has joined our tour. She's the official bodyguard. And she knows where the funiculars are located so she took the stairs instead. Hi, pup. You're sweet aren't you? Yes, you are. Yes, you are. Yes, you are.
If we can offer one recommendation for visiting Valparaiso, it would be to join one of the free walking tours towards the beginning of your stay. This is a great way to get some background history and to familiarize yourself with the various neighbourhoods. The local guides know where to find the best murals, so consider this a scouting mission. You can always come back with a bit more time to explore the area with your camera in hand.
Apparently, there are 42 hills in the city and we're just exploring it for the first time today. And my first impressions are so much better now that we're seeing this cool part. It is so colorful, so artsy and lots of fun to check out. Exactly.
Another thing we really enjoyed about our walking tour of Valparaiso, was the company of all the dogs. Valparaiso has a lot of strays roaming the streets, but we found the dogs to be super friendly and affectionate. We also noticed locals feeding dogs.
We're having a little food break. I think we're going to try some empanadas. And I see that they have shrimp ones on the menu. Shrimp and cheese empanadas so those should be really tasty.
The harbor tours depart from Muelle Prat as soon as they get a boat-full of passengers. During the outing you’ll go past container ships, tug boats, and navy vessels, plus you’ll also have a guide on-board to point out sights along the way.
Viña del Mar is a super quick day trip from Valparaiso. The two cities are only 8 kilometers apart and you can easily get there with the above ground metro system that runs along the beach. It’s only a 15 minute ride, and it’s quite the change in scenery. Whereas Valparaiso is colorful, artsy, and gritty, Viña del Mar is a bit more chic and modern. That being said, while we enjoyed our day trip to Viña del Mar, we were really glad we decided to stay in Valparaiso as we felt it had way more character.
So our time in Valparaiso is coming to an end. What are your final thoughts of the place? Yeah, that is a wrap from here. I loved it here. It was one of the coolest cities that I think we've visited on this entire South America trip. We have to show you the views from our balcony. Look at that. You get to see the hills, the colorful hills. Bye Valparaiso.

10. La Serena.
The second oldest town in Chile is located in the north. It features a warm golden beach and a city filled with beautiful architecture. An archaeological museum and an astronomical observatory are just a couple of the fantastic attractions in La Serena that live up to its reputation as an educated town.
9. Santiago.
The political and cultural center of Chile is the capital city. There is a lot to see in Santiago, from the expansive mountain views of Cerro San Cristobal Park to the historical significance of poet Pablo Neruda's writing hideaway.
8. Chiloe Island.
After Tierra del Fuego, Chiloé Island is the second-biggest island in South America and the largest in the Chiloé Archipelago in the Los Lagos Region. Chiloé has a notably unique architecture and local culture, in part due to its physical remoteness from the rest of Chile.

This charming beach and casino town features a bustling seafront and stunning Georgian architecture from the 19th century, including the Aztoreca Palace. Iquique, the Monte Carlo of Chile, has a lot to offer anyone who enjoys having fun without boundaries.
6. Chilean Fjords.
The only way to reach this region of Patagonia is through one of the many fjords and channels that line Chile's southern coast. The experience of sailing through this area can be unforgettable. The majority of trips depart from Puerto Montt and head south toward Laguna San Rafael, Puerto Natales, and the Carretera Austral.
5. Valparaiso.
The poet Pablo Neruda adored this bustling port city on the coast of Central Chile for its lovely disarray. It has the first volunteer fire department and other early urban advances in Latin America.
4. Chilean Lake District.
From Temuco in the north to Puerto Montt in the south, this long, green volcanic valley region is located. It has mountains covered in snow, snowcapped volcanoes, and lush forests. The Mapuche were one of the few South American tribes who managed to avoid being absorbed by the Incan empires and lived in the densely forested lake basin before the arrival of the Europeans.
3. San Pedro de Atacama.
San Pedro de Atacama, located in the Antofagasta Region of Chile, is perched high on a plateau and encircled by numerous mountains, lakes, and rock formations. The little town, which is close to the Bolivian border, is a highly popular travel destination for Chilean and foreign travelers alike because of its breathtaking sceneries.

On the very tip of Chile's southernmost peninsula is where you'll find the towers of blue national park, which is a glaciated location. The park gets its name from the presence of three enormous pillars inside its boundaries, and in addition to them, it contains a number of horns, or other mountains, as well as lakes formed by glaciers.

(CHILE 2017) - VALPARAISO: a colorful city, not just pirates!
2° STOP: VALPARAÍSO (16-18/10/2017)
It's the second most important port of Chile on the Pacific Ocean.
The city owes its name to the Italian sailors of Admiral Giovanni Battista Pastene, who identified those beautiful places as valley of paradise.
Geographically, its shape is like a large natural amphitheater located in the homonymous bay and surrounded by 42 hills (cerros), in which most of the population lives. The peculiarity of some hills is to be full of paintings and graffiti, thanks to which the inhabitants have given new life to some old houses and explained the history of the city through past and present struggles.
OFTEN IMAGES ARE STRONGER THAN WORDS!
Since December 1987, a palace built in the last years of the Pinochet dictatorship has become the home of the Chilean bicameral parliament (Congreso Nacional). In 2003 the historic center was declared World Heritage by UNESCO.
Local tourist attractions are the numerous picturesque and colorful houses and La Sebastiana, the museum built in one of Pablo Neruda's homes.
- History:
The first conquistadores landed in the early 1500s. Pizarro, helped earlier by Pedro de Valdivia, allowed him to conquer Chile. His first official act was the foundation of the city of Santiago de la Nueva Extremadura in 1541; Valparaíso was designated as its natural harbor on September 3, 1544.
It was a period of looting, destruction and death caused by pirates, especially the English Francis Drake and Richard Hawkins (late 16th century).
- Natural disasters:
On July 8, 1730, there was a great earthquake (magnitude 8.7 Richter) that struck Valparaiso and several other places like Santiago and Rancagua. It lasted for 15 minutes and generated a tsunami that struck the areas from north of Peru to Chile, crossing Valparaiso (so far this is the only destructive tsunami in this city) and reaching the Japanese coast.
