5 Most Dangerous Cities in the UK

What are the most dangerous cities to live in the United Kingdom? Ranking the United Kingdom as the 116th most dangerous country is not bad at all. That means the country is safer than, at least, 115 others in the world. Between 2020 and 2021 alone, it experienced 600 homicides as just one of the crimes reported that year. A total of 6.1 crimes were reported during that year. Out of these, 2 million were crimes against another person. If there were 67 million people in the UK during that year, the crime rate would be a whole 2,985 crimes per 100,000 people. However, it’s not everywhere in the UK that is dangerous. In this video, we will discuss those currently rated as the 5 most dangerous cities in the United Kingdom.
5. Nottingham
This city with links to the Robin Hood legend and which is famous for lacemaking and the tobacco industry is incidentally here. If we go by its population of 337,100, Nottingham that’s playing host to the headquarters of a number of major international businesses including Boots, E. On Energy, Pedigree Petfoods, and Gala Bingo, is the 14th largest city in the UK.
It’s the most dangerous major city in Nottinghamshire. Out of the 236 cities, towns, and villages in Nottinghamshire, it’s among the 20 most dangerous overall. In 2021, the overall crime rate in Nottingham was 114 crimes per 1,000 people. That was 49 percent higher than the crime rate in Nottinghamshire with a rate of 76 per 1,000 residents. Violence and sexual offenses are the most common crimes in Nottingham with 14,210 offenses during 2021, producing a crime rate of 45 per 1,000.
In 2020, a total of 34,228 crimes were committed with a crime rate of 108 per 1,000. In 2019, 42,113 were committed with a rate of 133. The year 2018 witnessed 41,970 crimes with a rate of 133. In 2017, the crime rate was 119 with 37,753 crimes. And in 2106, the total crime was 30,097 with a rate of 95 crimes per 1,000 people.
In December 2021, Nottingham was the most dangerous city for bicycle theft, with 52 crimes reported. That month was also a bad month for the city’s residents as it was the most dangerous area in Nottinghamshire for burglary while 110 of these crimes were committed. The city recorded 321 criminal damages and arsons still during December 2021.
4. Birmingham
We just have to agree with the inclusion of Birmingham on this list. This is a city with a population of about 1.1 million with an urban area having just over 2.6 million residents and a metropolitan area with a population of 3.5 million. Birmingham, despite having a coveted reputation as the first manufacturing city in the world some 200 to 150 years ago, is currently one of the most dangerous cities in the UK.
As the most dangerous major city in the West Midlands, Birmingham is among the 10 most dangerous overall out of the 44 cities, towns, and villages in the West Midlands. In 2021, the overall crime rate in this city was 137 crimes per 1,000 people. That was 17 percent higher than the West Midlands’ overall crime rate of 118 per 1,000 residents. Violence and sexual offenses are the most common crimes in Birmingham during 2021 when some 78,062 of these crimes were committed. That was a rate of 67 per 1,000 and was 38 percent higher than the 2020's figure.
Consider also the historical crime rate for Birmingham, not just what it had in 2021, and form your opinion. In 2020, a total of 123,271 crimes were committed with a crime rate of 106 per 1,000. In 2019, 120,832 were committed with a rate of 104 per 1,000 residents. The city in 2018 witnessed 114,605 crimes with a rate of 99. In 2017, the crime rate was 89 while 103,319 crimes took place. And in 2106, the total crime was 90,930 while at the rate of 78 crimes per 1,000 people.

Indian street food - CURRY like you've NEVER seen before! Indian street food in Ahmedabad, India

Indian street food - In this video, I will take you on a street food tour in Ahmedabad where I will show you Indian curry as you've never seen before.

To start our Indian street food tour, we went to a 120-year-old thali restaurant in Ahmedabad to have one of the best vegetarian Gujarati-style thali you could possibly eat.

To continue our Indian street food tour in Ahmedabad, we headed to the old town for insanely delicious mutton keema samosa and spicy mutton kebabs.

Abandoned Drive-In Theater | New England

Thousands of people drive by the marquee to this abandoned drive in every day. But not many of them know what’s behind it or just how popular this place used be. This was once a massive social spot, and boasted a giant screen tower design popular during the late 1940s. So big, you could even walk inside it.

The cars have been replaced by trees, and the screen hasn’t shown a movie since 1996. Welcome to the abandoned Sutton Motor-In.

THANK YOU to Dave Lounder, Steve Coan, and Don Brown helping with my research. They are the former operators of this drive-in and work to preserve the history of theaters like this one. They provided me with historic photos of the Sutton Motor In, fact checked my script, and answered my nonstop questions.

Support the preservation of drive-in theaters |

The first patented drive-in was opened on June 6, 1933 by Richard Hollingshead in New Jersey. He created it as a more comfortable alternative to the traditional theater, after testing different set ups in his driveway. Appealing to families, Hollingshead advertised his drive-in as a place where “The whole family is welcome, regardless of how noisy the children are.” That’s right, not even your annoying kids could ruin how cool these things were.

Drive-in numbers exploded and peaked in the late 1950's to early 1960's. During this time, which is generally considered the golden age of drive-ins, there were over 4000 drive-in theaters across the United States. Guys, I can count, and that’s a lot. At its height, about 25% of the nation's movie screens were at drive-ins. You’d pull up with your greaser friends and leather jackets in your Ford De Luxe, sing a couple songs and you know what I’m describing the movie Grease now I’m sorry. Still, drive ins were the place to be. But the golden age only lasted a decade or so, and in the 1960’s through the ‘80s the number of drive-ins began to decline for three main reasons.

1. Daylight savings time. In 1966 the uniform time act pushed the clocks forward from April thru October. This meant sunset would come an hour later during the prime drive-in movie season… too late for those noisy kids to be up. Bummer.

2. Property value. During the 70s property values in the United States soared and urban sprawl continued. It became more practical for owners to close their drive-ins in order to sell their land to developers. Today, there are a ton of big box stores that now sit on land once occupied by drive-in theaters.

3. The VCR. With those VHS tapes you could just rent a movie and watch it on your burnt orange couch. Why go to the drive in when you can see ya boy mark hamill fly an x wing on your 30 inch tube TV? This had arguably the biggest effect on drive-ins - between 1987 and 1988 alone, 1000 drive ins closed.

Back to Sutton now. As you can imagine, it’s pretty rare that this entire drive in is still here despite being closed for 25 years. This is one of the originals, too, being constructed in 1947 on 10 acres of land, which could fit about 450 cars. The screen measures in at 120 feet wide and 54 feet tall. Again it’s amazing this is still standing here after over 75 years - they built em solid back in 1947.

So what’s going to happen to it now?

Today it’s owned by a trust and family of the original owners, who are asking for what's described as a lucrative amount for what's here. This could be all yours for only 1.2 million dollars. Until someone decides to pay up, this relic of the past will remain here, being reclaimed by nature.
