Uwajima (宇和島) is the southernmost city in Ehime. It’s a compact city, facing the Bungo Channel that separates Kyushu from Shikoku.The city is home to one of only twelve extant original castles from the Edo Period (1603-1867). The Date Museum recollects the history of Uwajima and the Date clan which ruled the region around Uwajima for around two and a half centuries during this period.
As a coastal city, Uwajima backs a couple of industries related to the sea, such as fishing and pearl cultivating which is one of the top pearl producers in Japan. Local specialties include Taimeshi (a dish of rice and sea bream) and Jakoten (processed fish paste). The waterfront around the city gives beautiful coastal scenery. Uwajima is also known for the bull fight events which are hold five times a year.

I took this video on Monday, May 15, 2023.
This city, Uwajima, is in the southwestern part of Ehime Prefecture, Japan.
From the road on the mountain that leads into the city center, we can see beautiful scenery of aquaculture rafts neatly lined up on the sea.
Uwajima Castle stands on the hill in the center of the town, retaining the appearance it had about 350 years ago.
And this castle is the symbol of Uwajima.
In addition, the Japanese garden Tensha-en, which was created by the feudal lord, also remains.
This garden is characterized by many kinds of bamboo and wisteria planted, and the white and purple wisteria flowers add color to the calm atmosphere created by the bamboo.

Japan Travel: Nice View.Noble Uwajima Castle Uwajima, Ehime, Japan 25 Moopon
Uwajima Castle (宇和島城, Uwajimajō) is one of only twelve original castles that survive intact from the Edo Period (1603-1867). The small but atmospheric castle was built around the turn of the 17th century and was later furbished up when the Date family took over ownership in 1615. The Date clan continued to rule Uwajima from Uwajima Castle through the Edo Period. The castle stands on a hill which was located just by the sea in the past, but land reclamation along the coast has resulted in it standing further inland today.
Visitors can approach the castle's keep starting from the north or south. The each route travel uphill on flights of stone steps meandering past moss covered stone walls and leading through the forest, which consists of an interesting variety of vegetation. About halfway up the hill along the northern approach stands the Yamazato Soko(山里倉庫), a storehouse built relatively recently in 1845. The structure now serves as a small museum, exhibiting festival props, craft tools, an old rickshaw and other items.
After a 10-15 minute climb, visitors will reach the castle's three storied main keep at the hill's flat-topped summit. The keep's genuine wooden interior is well-preserved, and climbing up two floors worth of steep wooden stairs to the top floor rewards visitors with nice views over Uwajima City. There are some exhibits within the main keep, such as armors and swords belonging to past feudal lords, besides portraits of them.

The northern trailhead to Uwajima Castle can be reached in a 10-15 minute walk from Uwajima Station. From there, it takes an additional 10-15 minutes to climb up the hill and get to the main keep.

Tenshaen Garden (天赦園) a typical Japanese garden with a large pond in the center located southwest of Uwajima Castle. It was built in 1866 as a recreation venue by the ruling lord from the Date Clan. The garden offers changing scenery. Various flowers are in bloom at all seasons. Wisteria and iris are particularly beautiful.
In front of Harusametei is a pond in the shape of the kanji kokoro, meaning heart in English. Photogenic views of the pond and Harusametei can be enjoyed together with strategically placed rocks, pine trees and stone lanterns that enhance the scenery. Around mid April, wisteria flowers are usually in bloom, including an arch bridge fully lined with white wisteria that extends over the pond. Bamboo groves are another prominent item of Tenshaen. 22 varieties of bamboo trees including rare species can be found here.

The Date Museum (伊達博物館, Date Hakubutsukan) commemorates the Date Clan, who ruled over Uwajima for more than 250 years during the Edo Period (1603-1867). The first Date lord of Uwajima was Date Hidemune, who hailed from the main branch of the family based in Sendai. Uwajima grew and prospered under the rule of generations of lords from the Date Clan.
The museum exhibits a lot of artifacts and possessions of the Data family, such as weapons, family crests, scroll paintings, writings and daily-used items. It displays a sizable collection of beautiful folding screens (byobu) with precious paintings. Maps depicting Uwajima in the past enable visitors to see how the castle town has been reformed over the years. In particular, the waterfront west of the city has changed quite dramatically as a result of land reclamation.
Access info Date Museum is located close to Tenshaen Garden and it is a 20-30 minute walk from Uwajima Station. Or Uwajima Bus operates hourly buses between the station and Tenshaen-mae bus stop (天赦園前, 10 minutes, 150 yen one way), which is located a few steps from the museum.

Join me today in the island of Shikoku. I have enjoyed exploring the amazing island of Shikoku for the last several years. The port town of Uwajima in Ehime Prefecture is now an important location for pearl farming and fish farming. On this particular day I visited the Yusumuzugaura terraced rice fields. Built into a steep hillside on a narrow peninsula, it's hard to believe that all these terraces were built by hand many years ago! You can walk among the terraces and take pictures of the surrounding ocean and islands, but the view from the sky is even better! I hope you enjoy this relaxing drone flight over the beautiful Japanese scenery!

Riding on the cheapest Local ferry Ehime Uwajima Ferry. Travel in Japan
This time we boarded the Uwajima Ferry, which departs from Yawatahama Port at 17:25. The Uwajima Ferry makes six trips a day between Beppu Port in Oita Prefecture and Yawatahama Port in Ehime Prefecture. There is a roadside station near Yawatahama Port, where you can enjoy the 2 hours and 50 minutes of the ride by purchasing local specialties and food before boarding. This time, we will show you how we stayed at the Sky Lounge while enjoying the food. Incidentally, the Ehime we boarded this time retired on June 23. A new ship, the Reimei Maru, has made its debut, and I would like to take the Reimei Maru to Shikoku next time.

Taman enshaen (天 赦 園) adalah taman khas Jepang dengan kolam besar di tengahnya , terletak di sebelah barat daya kastil Uwajima . Taman ini dibangun pada tahun 1866 sebagai tempat berekreasi oleh penguasa feodal setempat di masa itu, keluarga Date. Taman ini menawarkan pemandangan yang berbeda setiap musimnya. Berbagai bunga yang berbeda mekar di setiap musim . Wisteria dan iris adalah yang paling indah. Di depan Harusametei terdapat sebuah kolam dalam bentuk kanji Jepang kokoro, yang dalam bahasa inggris berarti hati . Pandangan fotogenik dari kolam dan Harusametei dapat dinikmati bersama-sama dari atas batu yang karang yang letaknya strategis, pohon-pohon pinus dan lentera batu menambah keindahan pemandangan yang ada . Sekitar pertengahan April, bunga wisteria mekar. Seluruh jembatan berbentuk lengkungan diselimuti penuh oleh bunga wisteria putih, jembatan ini membentang di atas kolam. Selain itu terdapat sekitar 22 jenis pohon bambu termasuk spesies langka dapat ditemukan di Taman Tenshaen ini. Jam buka: 8:30 - 16:30 (sampai 17:00 dari April sampai Juni )

HTM: 300 yen Tenshaen Garden berlokasi di sebelah museum Date. Makan waktu sekitar 20-30 menit berjalan kaki dari stasiun Uwajima. Atau naik bus Uwajima yang beroperasi setiap jamnya dari stasiun sampai halte bus Tenshaen mae (天赦園前, 10 menit , 150 yen sekali jalan), taman bisa dicapai dalam beberapa langkah.
