USAG Kwajalein Atoll - A Place Like No Other || Aerial Highlights
USAG-KA is located in the Marshall Islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. While being key for US national security, its remoteness and location allow for many unique times in your not-so-typical 9-5pm job. Please enjoy some of the memories that I have collected over the past couple years while living on this amazing two-mile-long piece of coral.

차를 타고 도착한 곳은 아름다운 아르노의 해변. 신나게 노는 아이들 너머로 여인네들이 뭔가를 만들고 있다. 어린 코코넛 잎으로 만드는 전통 수공예품이다. 한 땀 한 땀 정성이 깃들어 보인다. “코코넛 잎으로 액자나 다른 다양한 장식품을 만듭니다.” 아르노섬의 여자들은 솜씨가 좋아 이 수공예품들은 높은 가격으로 팔린다고 한다. 조개껍데기를 이어 만든 섬세한 수공예품이 멋스러워 보인다. 바닷가 한편에서 사람들이 해변에 코코넛나무를 세우고 있다. 꽤 기다란 벽을 만드는 것 같은데 그 이유가 궁금하다. “바닷가에 방조벽을 만들고 있어요.“ ”왜요?“ ”바닷물이 계속 섬으로 들어오고 있거든요. 성공적일지는 모르겠지만 시도는 해보는 겁니다.“ ”어떤 문제가 있나요?“ ”섬이 사라지고 있어요.“ 문화와 문명을 꽃 피우던 땅 마셜제도. 하지만 지구 온난화로 인한 해수면 상승이 그들의 삶을 위협하고 있다. 마셜인들이 할 수 있는 일이라곤 해안가에 방조벽을 만드는 방법 밖에 없는 것 같아 안타깝다. 태평양의 외딴 섬 마셜제도. 아름다운 풍광과 그 안에 울려 퍼지는 사람들의 행복한 메아리가 100년, 아니 1000년 후에도 계속되길 기대하고 또 기대하며 나의 여행을 마무리한다.

Lo stato insulare delle Isole Marshall rappresenta una destinazione ideale per chi vuole trascorrere una vacanza all’insegna del relax, ma allo stesso tempo dell’avventura. L’economia di questo stato dell’Oceania è infatti basata in prevalenza sul turismo, sull’artigianato locale e sulla pesca, utilizzata come sostentamento e come esportazione. This video was taken in June of 2005 when I visited relatives on Namo Atoll. This video is shot on a parcel of land called Bwil Weto on Majikin Islet. Lispby Albious helped me by holding the camera. My attempt was to show what it is like to live on an outer island. In the video I am desribing island life, livining in a grass shack and a few other things.
