For all the photography in this video my photography buddy Ted and I both used Fujifilm X-T2 camera bodies. Because part of this itinerary included bird photography, we had Fujifilm XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 lenses with us. This is a lens not typically used for landscape photography, but it proved to be very useful in this location.

4K Walk Japan 歌志内市の本町通りを散歩 2020年10月
今回は，歌志内の昔の商店街を歩いてみました．歌志内市は日本で一番人口の少ない市です．昔は炭鉱で栄えた市でしたが，約50年前にすべての炭鉱が閉山してから，人口は急激に減少しました．かつてこの通りは駅前の通りでした．当時はこの通りは賑わっていたことでしょう．駅もなくなり，もはやこの通りは商店街とは呼べませんが，今の様子を記録しておきたいと思います．
他の市にはない，「静寂」がこの市にはあります．

【現状】日本一人口の少ない歌志内市 ※皆に見て知って行って貰いたい 応援も込めて
日本一人口の少ない市、北海道歌志内市。
2019年3月現在3200人程しか居ない元炭鉱で発展した都市。
ピーク時には約4.6万人を超え『市』になる為の条件は超えていなかったものの、
5万人を見据えて市制へ。
しかしその時既に日本のエネルギー政策の変化により主要産業の炭鉱は陰りを見せ、5万人を超える事も無いまま衰退して行った。
注目度という点では夕張に霞み知らない方も多いのでは？と思い撮影しました。
内容はこのような形ですが、少しでも歌志内に興味を持ち訪問し、
お金を落として行ってくれる人が増えれば…と願いを込め、応援しています。
コンビニは確認した所セイコーマートが2店舗で
その他 食事出来そうなお店は動画で出てきた中では道の駅とコミュニティーセンター前にあった『つむぎ』さん位か。ちなみに、動画中に出てきた肉の木村さん(名物なんこ)は撮影後、確認しに行くとお店は開いて居たので現役でやっている店です。
※追記2020年12月に肉の木村さんで【なんこ串】などを買って来ました。

This is Part 3 of our 6 part series of things to do in Hokkaido, Japan. We explore some of the best things to do in Asahikawa, also the coldest city in Japan as it can drop to as low as -41 degrees! We are currently on our Hokkaido road trip travelling from Sapporo to Asahikawa and further up North. It is Winter in Asahikawa and so the snow is absolute magic! We share with you our day tasting ramen, exploring the Asahikawa snow festival and ice sculptures, and even horse riding through the snow.

撮影：2010年7月23日、北海道の富良野・美瑛のラベンダーの名所はテレビドラマ「北の国から」でも知られる人気スポット。近年はアジア諸国から観光に訪れる人も多い。このラベンダーは６０年代から、一時は富良野地に適した花として香料の原料に農家が生計の為に植えていた。だが、時代と共に値段の安い化学香料に押され、ほとんどんの農家が作物栽培へと転換して姿を消してしまう。そんな中で「ファ−ム富田」の奮戦により、今では観光用に富良野・美瑛には10ヵ所以上のラベンダー畑の名所が誕生している。

Swiss land and local cuisine in the smallest city in Japan(日本一小さな「市」の中のスイスランドと郷土料理)
In the Meiji 30's, Utashinai city had a population of more than 7 thousand, but exceeded 10 thousand in the Meiji 40's and 20 thousand in the Taisho era, formed one of the largest coal mines in Sorachi pipe. The population increase has been remarkable since it became Showa era, and in the Showa 23 years after the war, we recorded the largest number of Utashinai city 46,000 people.
Since that time, the population of around 40,000 people was kept until around 1960, but in the Showa 40's, the closing mountain continued due to the slump in the coal industry, the town became increasingly depopulated, and in 1973 I finally divided 10,000 people. In addition, the Sorachi coal mine closed in March 1995 spurred the declining population, it decreased to 5 thousand people in 2007 and continues to be on a downward trend.
In Utashinai City, Switzerland-style architectural design was adopted based on Training Camp Utashinai Swiss Land Plan to encourage tourism development at the foot of the Kamoi mountain mountain, which makes the landscape of nature rich in Swissland , Kamoi center house (lodge) was built.
Eventually, the creation of Swiss-style landscapes has become available not only around Kamoi-mountain but also for the design of public facilities and individual houses.
Utashinai local cuisine Nanko is a dish that was eaten in a coal-fired area, simmered until the softening of the intestines of the horse, then seasoned with miso.
There are also cooking methods to put ingredients such as konnyaku, bamboo shoots, onion, burdock etc. Differences such as the type of ingredients and hidden taste (ginger, garlic, etc.) and so on create each home taste.
The taste of miso soaked as good as leaving the chewy makes me feel warm home cooking.
It is a dish that disappeared from the table with the decline of the coal mine, but it is a famous item in Utashinai.
Wakkanai, Hokkaido｜Japan Walking Tour【4K】
I took a walk around Wakkanai City from Wakkanai Station.
Wakkanai City is the northernmost city in Japan with a population of about 32,000.
There used to be a ferry service between Wakkanai Port and Korsakov in Sakhalin, Russia, but it has been suspended since 2019.
The North Breakwater Dome, a landmark of Wakkanai, was built in 1936 and used as a pier for railroad liaison ships connecting Hokkaido and Sakhalin.

Hokkaido's famous Shirogane BLUE POND is it worth going?
Another one on my Japan Travel bucket list here in Hokkaido was the famous Shirogane Blue Pond in Biei near Asahikawa!
I tried to visit many times, but either it was frozen (in Winter) or I just did not have enough time to go, as it is a bit off the beaten path, especially when you are not driving and relying on public transport...
Was it worth it? Yes very much so!
The water of the pond, which is called Aoiike, literally meaning blue pond is really as blue as the many photos on the interweb show it to be (so no photoshop needed) and I loved th little souvenir shop that was located right next to it selling all kinds of blue stuff including blue ice cream and blue beer!
If you can, then I do recommend doing this by car, but if you cannot with a little preparation, you can easily come and visit the blue pond and enjoy it :)

Ningle Terrace
Ninguru Terrace is a beautiful collection of boutique cottages, housing specialty arts and crafts along with their creators. The creators sit there in the shops displaying and making more of their products as you wander around. Located just below the New Furano Prince Hotel, Ningle Terrace has been created using natural materials with timber buildings and a beautiful plank walkway around the waterfalls and trees. The forest gives off a beautiful scent with pine trees and the waterfall creating a wonderful atmosphere for wandering around or stopping in the cafe.
The cafe serves a range of products including hot and cold drinks, baked milk, cakes and cheese platter and some delicious ice creams.
With winter comes a stunning blanket of soft white snow which lines the walkways and leaves huge snow hats on the cottages and snow mushrooms on the trees.
Ninguru Terrace is a different experience again at night with the walkways and buildings lined with fairy lights.
Ninguru Terrace is the perfect place for wandering around and enjoying the sightseeing and beauty, or for getting some perfect souvenirs with a touch of nature and Furano.
