Buciumeni, Ungheni
Satul Buciumeni a fost menționat documentar în anul 1428. În 1859 la Buciumeni se numărau 514 oameni, iar la începutul secolului XX avea 89 de gospodării și 687 de locuitori.
În perioada sovietică aici s-a aflat o brigadă a gospodăriei colective „Eforonos specializat în cultivarea plantelor aromatice. Compoziţia etnică a populaţiei comunei: 98.32% - moldoveni, 1.05% - ucraineni, 0.28% - ruşi, 0.07% - bulgari, 0.28% - alte etnii.

Pe 18 iunie, la Ungheni a fost lansat filmul documentar Ungheni -- oraş mic cu inimă mare, realizat de către studioul OWH Chişinău. Scenariul şi regia îi aparţine Leontinei Vatamanu, iar muzica a fost scrisă special pentru acest film de către Anatol Ştefaneţ&Trigon.
De notat că este primul documentar realizat de către profesionişti despre oraşul Ungheni. Apariţia lui a fost posibilă, graţie Proiectului Abordarea integrală a durabilităţii producţiei de turism, cu suportul financiar al Uniunii Europene.
Timp de aproape 16 minute, se vorbeşte despre cele mai frumoase locuri şi realizări ale Ungheniului.
Orașul Ungheni (partea 1)
Ungheni este un important oraș cu statut de municipiu din partea central-vestică a Republicii Moldova, este reședința a raionului omonim. Localitatea este situată pe malul estic al Prutului, în dreptul satului omonim din România, cu care a alcătuit în trecut aceeași localitate. Situația geografică specială, la răscruce de drumuri, a constituit cheia pentru ascensiunea Ungheniului la statutul de urbe. Datorită unei atare așezări, s-a decis în anii '70 ai secolului XIX construcția căii ferate Chișinău – Iași, care să treacă prin Ungheni.

Podul Eiffel de la Ungheni
Podul Eiffel este un pod metalic peste Prut dintre Ungheni (Republica Moldova) și comuna Ungheni (România). Podul a fost proiectat și construit de Gustave Eiffel, care fusese invitat la Ungheni de către Direcția căilor ferate din Basarabia. La 6/18 mai 1872 a fost încheiată la București convenția româno-rusă privind joncțiunea liniilor ferate ruse cu cele române, Iași-Chișinău și a apărut astfel necesitatea de a construi un pod rezistent peste Prut. Podul feroviar de peste Prut de la Ungheni a fost construit în perioada 1876-1877, după proiectul arhitectului francez Gustave Eiffel, creatorul Turnului Eiffel din Paris. Podul a fost deschis pe 9/21 aprilie 1877, cu doar trei zile înainte ca Rusia să declare război contra Turciei.
Mulțumit de calitatea podului, Scarlat Pastia apelează tot la Gustave Eiffel pentru a construi în 1882 și Grand Hotel Traian din Iași.
Podul a intrat în istorie sub numele de Podul de flori: la 6 mai 1990, zeci de mii de români de pe cele două maluri ale Prutului s-au reîntâlnit și s-au îmbrățișat, după circa jumătate de secol de înstrăinare.

Chișinău/Moldova:
Chișinău also known formerly as Kishinev, is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Moldova. The city is Moldova's main industrial and commercial center, and is located in the middle of the country, on the river Bîc. According to the preliminary results of the 2014 census, the city of Chișinău is home to 492,894 residents. The estimated number of resident population in the Municipality of Chișinău (which includes other nearby communities), as of 1 January 2015, is 736,100.Chișinău is the most economically prosperous locality in Moldova and its largest transportation hub.
Chișinău is located on the river Bâc, a tributary of the Dniester, at 47°0′N 28°55′E, with an area of 120 square kilometres (46 sq mi). The municipality comprises 635 square kilometres (245 sq mi).
The city lies in central Moldova and is surrounded by a relatively level landscape with very fertile ground. Chișinău is governed by the City Council and the City Mayor (Romanian: Primar), both elected once every four years. The current mayor is Dorin Chirtoacă.His predecessor was Serafim Urechean. Under the Moldovan constitution, Urechean — elected to parliament in 2005 — was unable to hold an additional post to that of an MP. The Democratic Moldova Bloc leader subsequently accepted his mandate and in April resigned from his former position. During his 11-year term, Urechean committed himself to the restoration of the church tower of the Catedrala Nașterea Domnului and improvements in public transport.
The current mayor, Dorin Chirtoacă from the Liberal party, took office after elections in June 2007. Chirtoacă won reelections in June 2011, and June 2015.
Local governmentThe municipality in its totality elects a mayor and a local council, which then name five pretors, one for each sector. They deal more locally with administrative matters. Each sector claims a part of the city and several suburbs:
Rail
The second most popular form of domestic transportation within Moldova is via railways. The total length of the network managed by Moldovan Railway CFM (as of 2009) is 1,232 kilometers (766 miles). The entire network is single track and is not electrified. The central hub of all railways is Chișinău Central Railway Station. There is another smaller railway station - Revaca located on the city's ends.Chișinău Railway Station has an international railway terminal with connections to Bucharest, Kiev, Minsk, Odessa, Moscow, Samara, Varna and St. Petersburg. Due to the simmering conflict between Moldova and the unrecognised Transnistria republic the rail traffic towards Ukraine is occasionally stopped.Wikipedia

We travelled on the overnight bus from Chisinau in Moldova to Bucharest in Romania and got an incredible bargain!!
We chose to go by bus as it is the cheapest option but we found a half price sale on the autogara.md website and booked a cheap seat on the 9.30 pm bus, buying the ticket at the Autogara Centrala bus station in Chisinau.
The journey cost us only 149 Moldovan Lei = US$ 8.50
