Discover Oita: 15 Best locations and activities

In the south of Japan, on the island of Kyushu lies Oita prefecture. Famous for its many onsens and a thermal pool (Hell of Beppu), Oita is a unique destination. We will help you discover what we believe are the top priorities when visiting. If you love nature and history then the Kunisaki peninsula offers everything you need and more. I have such fond memories of the area and could easily see myself retiring there. But of course, Oita cannot be limited to Kunisaki. You will see in our video, it has so much to offer!

Note. If you ever visit Oita you have to have Futago-Ji Temple on your list. Make sure to book a table at the restaurant near the temple. There is only one. Order some Toriten, short for Tori Tempura, this is truly AMAZINGLY GOOD!

Note 2: This video replace and fix a previously uploaded glitchy one.

Japan's scariest hot springs - BEPPU | Japan travel guide

In today’s video we’re exploring Japan's scariest hot springs - The 7 Hells of Beppu in Kyushu Japan!

Beppu’s Hells or Jigoku Meguri are the most popular attractions in Beppu. The hot spring Hells of Beppu are a nationally designated “Place of Scenic Beauty”- a truly natural wonder and scenic spot that you need to add to your Kyushu itinerary! In today’s Japan Travel Guide we’ll show you the best thing to do in Beppu, tour the Hells!

Beppu is famous for being the onsen capital of Japan, having over 2000 onsens- its most famous of which are the Hells! These aren’t your usual onsens, being far too hot to bathe in, the Hells are for viewing only!

In this Japan travel guide we take you to all 7 Hells, from a boiling geyser to stunning blue pools and even one bursting with crocodiles! While the striking colours and extreme temperatures are surprising, the most shocking thing about the Hells is their depth- some are over 100m deep!

Oita prefecture - known as the onsen (hot spring) capital of Japan - is a popular destination in Japan, though it is often overlooked by tourists. We hope you visit Beppu and add Kyushu to your Japan travel plans as it really is a hidden gem and great place to visit in Japan!

Japan Trip: Oita Hells Umi Jigoku( Sea Hells) Geothermal hot spots Beppu, Oita013 Moopon

Located within the hot springs prefecture of Oita in Kyushu is the world famous hot springs resort town of Beppu. Visitors can experience eight different springs here: Beppu, Kannawa, Myoban, Kankaiji, Hamawaki, Kamegawa, Horita and Shibaseki. It has eight major geothermal hot spots, sometimes referred to as the eight hells of Beppu. They are presented to visitors in a rather touristy fashion, which might not appeal to everyone. Six of them are located in the Kannawa district and two in the more remote Shibaseki district.

Umi Jigoku
One of the more beautiful hells, the sea hell features a pond of boiling, blue water. In its spacious gardens, there are a few secondary, orange colored hells and a large, clear water pond with lotus flowers whose big leaves are strong enough to ride small children.

Umi Jigoku Onsen Beppu kyushu Japan

Umi Jigoku (or “Sea Hell”) is one of the hot springs (onsen) included in Beppu Japan’s “Jigoku Meguri” (Hell Tour), in which you can enjoy famous Japanese hot spring spots all at once. Contrary to the name ‘hell’ by which the tour is called, the cobalt blue color gives the water a very beautiful and dazzling appearance.
Out of the 9 Hells of Beppu, many consider Umi Jigoku to be the most beautiful. The water is a truly beautiful cobalt blue, which is rare even amongst Japanese hot springs. The reason for the blue color of the water is its naturally high levels of iron sulfate. This means that it is entirely natural and not a result of artificial coloring.
The color of the water may be a cool blue, but the hot spring’s temperature is actually 98°C. Needless to say, there’s no onsen dipping here! It’s so hot that even boiled eggs are made in the hot spring waters!

Ride info on my Blog Post:
My Japan BikePacking Guide:

Reaching Beppu Onsen and visited Umi Jigoku. Also visited Takegawara Onsen, a 125-year old building with lots of history behind it. The bath was too hot though and I only stayed for like 15 minutes. But it was a good experience to feel how people in the olden days use the onsen. Ended the day in a hotel in Oita City.

I will rest for a few days before continuing to day 22 due to flood and mudslide warnings due to the heavy downpour expected in the next few days.

????Traveling to Tokyo's Umi No Hi Festival in Japan ???????? #travel #japan #tokyo #odaiba #lanternfestival

Over 50,000 Lanterns---ODAIBA BEACH PARK---Tokyo's Umi No Hi Festival in Japan

To commemorate the public holiday Marine Day (Umi no Hi) over 50,000 paper lanterns are lit with candles and artistically placed along the beach of Odaiba Seaside Park. Visitors can walk among the lanterns and admire the view of Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo.

The festival runs from 6:30pm to 10pm each day. Odaiba’s Marine Park located right behind DECKS Tokyo Beach and Aqua City (near Daiba Station or Odaiba-Kaihin-Koen Station on the Yurikamome Line), holds an annual Lantern Festival, where thousands of colored lanterns are lit along the beach, thoughtfully placed to reveal an image when seen from a vantage point.

Although the highlight of the festival are the lanterns lit by volunteers, there are many activities and things to do while waiting for the sun to set. Local musicians and singers perform by the beachside café, where you can sit and enjoy the scenery: cruising ferries, the Rainbow Bridge and skyscrapers surrounding the bridge.

If you’re a fan of seafood or feeling adventurous, you may also choose to try the oysters that are freshly grilled by vendors on the street. Whether you are there to enjoy the music, witness the hundreds of lanterns flickering in the night, or even just for an evening stroll, the Lantern Festival at Odaiba is definitely an event you don't want to miss.

Sushi Omakase in Bangkok - TUNA BELLY Japanese Food at Umi Gaysorn in Thailand!

Watch - Extreme Thai Street Food:
Subscribe for 2 new videos every week
T-shirts and caps:

One of the best sushi omakase restaurants in Bangkok is Umi, and I went to their Gaysorn Village location ( A group of my friends own the restaurant and they had just received a fresh piece of tuna and wanted to do some tasting.

It was just just a top level sushi omakase (served piece by piece, chef’s choice) experience in Bangkok, but it was a tuna learning experience for me. Of all the times I’ve had sushi, I didn’t know much about the tuna. But this time, I learned about the origin, the quality, how it was wild caught, and even tasting the difference between completely fresh and aged, which gives it a different umami sensation.

For out omakase this day, most of the sushi was based on tuna, and Umi Gaysorn Village is aiming to focus on wild tuna, but we also had a few other Japanese food delicacies including shirako (cod sperm) and plenty of incredible uni (sea urchin).

It was an incredible meal. Umi serves one of the best Japanese food - sushi omakase especially focusing on tuna - in Bangkok, Thailand.
