सोलापुर सीना नदी के किनारे स्थित है। प्रारंभिक शताब्दियों में सोलापुर शहर हिंदू चालुक्यों और देवगिरि यादवों के शासन में था, किंतु बाद में यह बहमनी और बीजापुर साम्राज्य का हिस्सा बन गया। सोलापुर मुंबई-हैदराबाद सड़क व रेलमार्गों पर स्थित है, जो बीजापुर और गडग को जाने वाली छोटी लाइनों से भी जुड़ा है। सोलापुर कपास और अन्य कृषि उत्पादों के व्यावसायिक केंद्र के रूप में विकसित हुआ है। सोलापुर के सिद्धेश्वर मंदिर में पूजा-अर्चना के लिए श्रद्धालु दूर-दूर से बड़ी संख्या में आते हैं। सोलापुर एक औद्योगिक केंद्र भी है, सूती वस्त्र के क्षेत्र में यह मुंबई के बाद दूसरा केंद्र है।

Solapur (About this soundpronunciation (help·info), formerly Sholapur) is a city located in the south-western region of the Indian state of Maharashtra, close to its border with Karnataka.
Solapur is located on major Highway, rail routes between Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Hyderabad, with a branch line to the cities of Bijapur and Gadag in the neighbouring state of Karnataka.Solapur international Airport is under construction.[8] It is classified as A1 Tier and B-1 class city by House Rent Allowance (HRA) classification by the Government of India. It is the 5th biggest city in Maharashtra and the 49th most populous city in India and 43rd largest urban agglomeration.
Solapur leads Maharashtra in production of beedi.Solapuri Chadars and towels are famous in India and also at a global level, however there has been a significant decline in their exports due to quality reasons.Solapuri chadars are the famous and first product in Maharashtra to get a Geographical Indication tag It has been a leading centre for cotton mills and power looms in Maharashtra. Solapur had the world's second-largest and Asia's largest spinning mill. The National Research Centre on Pomegranate (NRCP) of India is located in Solapur. and pomegranate farming is done on a large scale in Solapur District.The Science Centre in Kegaon (Solapur) is the third largest and prominent scientific association in Maharashtra. The Raichur-Solapur Power Transmission line of 765 kV power capacity suffices the power grid accessing need of the southern states of Karanataka and Andhra Pradesh. The first waste-to-energy electricity plant in Maharashtra is situated in Solapur.
The Gramadevata (Chief deity) of the city is Shri Shivyogi Siddheshwar. The Nandidhwaj procession on the Hindu festival of Makar Sankranti and on account of it an annual fair locally known as Gadda Yatra attracts large crowds and is associated with the marriage of Lord Siddheshwar. In 1992, the Solapur Municipal Corporation extended its area up to 300 square kilometres (120 sq mi) by merging its suburbs.Solapur has the Great Indian Bustard Sanctuary.????????????

Naldurg Fort – Historical Background :
Naldurg which was formerly a district headquarter is situated about 50 Kms. south-east of Osmanabad. The fort which is an interesting place has enclosed a surface of a knoll or plantain of basalt rock which is jutted out into the valley or raving of the small river Bori. Along the rest of the cliff on three sides ran fortifications. bastion firmly built out have deseed basalt and are large enough to carry heavy guns. The entire circumference is about a mile and a half.
The interior portion is covered with ruined walls and a half, the interior portion is covered with ruined walls and a vide road running up to the centre. The fort has many bastions amongst which are upli Buruj, which is the height point in the fort paranda Buruj , nagar Buruj, Sangam Burug, Sangram Buruj, Bands Buruj, poone Buruj, etc. Inside the fort there are remains of the walls and some of the building such a Barood kotha, Baradari, Ambarkhana, Rangaan mahal, Jali etc. Though the buildings are in ruins the remains give a impression that there night have been at one time the specious buildings, There are two tanks in the fort known as machali guns amongst which important are the “hathi toph” and magar Toph”, The hathi Darwaza and the hurmukh and the hurmukh darwaza are the main gates of the fort. The most interesting building which connects the fort and the Ranmandala is the dam constructed across the bori river, the dam and the” pani mahal, which is built underaatch and in the middle of the dam were, constructed. During the reign of Ibrahim Adil shah II. The fort is said to have been originally built by a Hindu Raja who was a vassal of the Chalukya kings of kalyani. It was latter included in the dominions of the Bahamanis and was subsequently taken over by the Adil shahi kings of bijapur, from whom it passed in the hands of mughalain the year 1686.A.D.
