The Reality of Life in Russia 2023 (bureaucratic nightmare)

This is our life in Russia in late 2022 / 2023. Traveling to Russia as a westerner has always been difficult, a bureaucratic nightmare, but this year is the first time Matt and I have really had any issues. We arrived in my hometown of Kemerovo, Siberia, after crossing in to Russia at Kaliningrad and flying to Novosibirsk. Once here and staying with my family, we went to register with the local authorities, but everything turned out to be a little complicated to say the least. This is a week in our lives here staying in Siberia as we hang out with my family and prepare for New years eve (the biggest celebration of the year in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and many other former Soviet countries). Welcome to a very cold, wintery Siberia.

Exploring Estonia - There is more to Estonia than just Tallinn - Travel Guide

Estonia is an underrated country and well worth a visit for its medieval buildings, history and friendly people. Estonia is one of the 3 Baltic State Countries.
Estonia has more to offer than just its beautiful capital, Tallinn and we wanted to see more.
In this video after exploring the Old Town of Tallinn we take a road trip around Estonia, heading for the largest Island, Saaremaa and the medieval town of Kuressaare. It has a wonderful moated castle and picturesque streets and lanes to explore.
We also head to southern Estonia and visit the town of Viljandi with its hilltop castle ruins and cute suspension bridge.
Next, we cross to the second largest city in Estonia, Tartu taking a short walk around the old town and up to Cathedral Hill to see the ruins of the Tartu Cathedral.
Our final overnight stop was in the wonderful Lahemaa National Park, with its beautiful nature reserve and waterfall.
We came away from Estonia wanting more and with a better appreciation of its history, culture and nature. We hope this video inspires you to visit Estonia sometime soon!

A Glass of Water Saved a Plane And 72 Passengers

The plane had been used for 20 years, but it had never suffered a single accident before, so the cabin crew had no doubts the flight would be easy. Passengers got on board the plane; flight attendants nonchalantly checked their boarding passes; everything went as usual.

But what happened after that was really scary. No electricity onboard, all equipment down, no airport in sight, and only a half-forgotten runway deep in the Siberian snow forest. It’s hard to imagine a worse scenario for a passenger plane landing, so it’s a real miracle that everyone ended up safe and sound. And all of it thanks to… a glass of water.

SUMMARY:
- The plane had been used for 20 years, but it had never suffered a single accident before, so the cabin crew had no doubts the flight would be easy.
- The electronic equipment started acting abnormally, but the pilots shrugged it off as a nuisance and continued the flight. Air traffic control also neglected the problem.
- Just 8 minutes after the announcement, the lights in the cabin went off. Only the flight attendants paid any attention to it, believing everything was alright. In the cockpit, though, the situation immediately became desperate.
- Without the equipment, the plane became crippled. It was still operable, but all the navigational systems refused to work, the radio went offline, and the fuel transfer pumps were also lost.
- Without any means to control the angle at which they descended, they used an old and almost forgotten trick: a glass of water put on the control panel.
- As Captain Novosyolov later said in an interview, it was a pure stroke of luck that they saw a landing strip near the town of Izhma. It was an old airport that had been abandoned for a long time and closed for any aircraft except helicopters.
- Despite the abandonment of the airport, airport supervisor Sergey Sotnikov, of his own will, kept the runway in a good condition for all those years. He cut down the emerging brush, swept away garbage, and even drew the runway marking when it faded.
- Before the last attempt at landing, all passengers and the cabin crew were transferred to the front of the plane to be ready for an emergency evacuation.
- The emergency escape slides were dispatched. And all 72 passengers along with all 9 crew members safely went down to the ground. None of them were even slightly injured.
- The lucky passengers and crew were transported by helicopters to nearby Ukhta, from where they went on to Moscow by another plane, and only one family decided they’d had enough air travel for a lifetime and took a train instead.
- Sergey Novosyolov and his co-pilot Andrey Lamanov were made Heroes of the Russian Federation, while the rest of the cabin crew received the Orders of Courage.
- After that, the aircraft continued performing flights for another 7 years. It received its own nickname, Izhma, and in September 2018 it flew for the last time.

THE SIGHT & THE SOUND 1/4 : Flight onboard Alrosa TU-154M RA-85684 from Moscow (DME) to Sochi (AER)

Daniel’s Travel Vlog

FLIGHT #1/4 ALROSA TU-154M RA-85684 MOSCOW (DME) – SOCHI (AER), AUGUST 18, 2018

This video has been remastered and substantially improved in Sight & Sound and replaces the video published in 2018.

Announcements on Social Media for event flights on Soviet Classics within Russia always come on too short notice.

Getting a visa, getting leave from your employer, shifting plans, especially if you live as far as Japan, are the most common reasons for a “No No”.

After missing the Kosmos TU-134 pleasure flight from Zhukovsky, there was another announcement that the Izhma TU-154M RA-85684, operated by Alrosa Avia would perform a Farewell rotation from Moscow to Sochi on a weekend in August.

I had barely four weeks ahead for planning, yet the decision was clear, this opportunity was not to be missed, by all means.

Simon De Rudder and Mikhail from Alrosa were the mastermind behind this idea and after getting my Russian Tourist Visa, it was off to Moscow from Tokyo via Frankfurt.

In 2018 Alrosa is still operating scheduled flights on TU-154, TU-134, AN-38, AN-24 and helicopters from their operational bases in Mirny and Udachny.

Sampling these beauties would require a 10 day itinerary, which I am simply unable to afford, not taking into account the usual unexpected changes on short notice.

Making things worse, filming and photographing opportunities are extremely limited on these remote locations.

A foreigner travelling alone without prior official arrangements, is always under suspicion and high risk.

This Sochi rotation proved to be the perfect and very reasonably priced alternative for a bunch of likewise minded avgeeks, travelling overnight from various parts of the world, gathering at gate 51 on the lower level of the departure concourse of Domodedovo Airport.

This video features flight 6R 9993 onboard TU-154M RA-85684 from Moscow (DME) to Sochi (AER) on August 18, 2018.

During approach over the Black Sea our flight was sent into an hour long holding pattern, because Adler Airport was closed for Government VIP traffic.

This video is the uncut and original version including 60 minutes of approach in holding.

History of Tupolev 154M RA-85684 Izhma

Airframe 90A851 was manufactured on October 12, 1990 and delivered to the East Siberian Division of Aeroflot Soviet Airlines on October 30, the same year and registered CCCP-85684.

CCCP-85684 was newly registered RA-85684 and operated for Chita Avia after 1993 and was leased to Sayany on September 21, 1998, however stored shortly thereafter on October 13, 1998 under the name of Avia Express Cruise until April 28, 1999.

RA-85684 was acquired one month later on May 28, 1999 by Alrosa (Aviakompaniya Alrosa), a subsidiary of the Alrosa Mirny Diamond Corporation, formerly Alrosa Mirny Air Enterprise, based in Polyarny and Mirny.

On September 7, 2010, RA-85684 was operating flight 6R 514 from Polyarny - Udachny Airport (PYJ) to Moscow (DME) and suffered a complete failure of the electrical system in-flight, resulting in loss of control of navigation devices and fuel pumps.

A successful emergency landing was made at closed Izhma Airport, but the aircraft overran the overgrown runway and was substantially damaged.

All 81 people on board escaped uninjured.

The aircraft was under the command of Captain Andrey Lamanov, later awarded the title Hero of the Russian Federation.

This aircraft was flown via Ukhta (UCT) to Samara (KUF) on March 24, 2011 for repairs and returned back to service on June 16, 2011 for seven more years.

Flights 6R 9993 on August 18 and 6R 9994 on August 19, 2018 were operated in honor of the first flight of the TU-154 and the Day of Civil Aviation, under command of Flight Captain Andrey Lamanov.

RA-85684 performed her final flight on September 29, 2018 from Mirny (MJZ) to Novosibirsk (OVB) under special flight number 6R 684 (RA-85684).

RA-85684 is displayed at Novosibirsk-Tolmachevo Airport.

Enjoy with me the Sights and especially the Sounds of one of the last flights onboard a passenger service TU-154M.

Where Two Northern Russian Rivers meet: the Izhma and the Ukhta
The Izhma (531 km long) and the Ukhta (199 km long) are two rivers in the Republic of Komi in the North-West of Russia. The Izhma is a tributary of the Pechora River and the Ukhta is a tributary if the Izhma. In the video you can see the place where the two rivers meet at the town of Sosnogorsk and the settlement of Ust-Ukhta. We are on the bank where Ust-Ukhta is.

Welcome to Ekaterina's Vlog! On this channel, I am going to share my videos and information about the Russian North, that's where I live, and perhaps about other places in Russia as well. Enjoy my walking tours!

Yugyd Lun family park in Sosnogorsk Komi Russia
The Yugyd Lun family park is the main attraction of the city of Sosnogorsk and a tourist attraction of the Komi Republic. The park was presented to the city dwellers in August 2015 for the 60th anniversary of the city. It is located at the intersection of 65 Years of Victory, 95th Anniversary of the Komi Republic and Vostochnaya streets. In the park you can see a cascading waterfall, a fountain, the Tree of Love, wooden sculptures of Komi and Russian folk tales. At the central entrance to the park, you'll see the main symbol of Sosnogorsk - the sculpture of a capercaillie. The park also has a sports complex, some playgrounds for children and a few ponds.

Kostroma - Rússia

Song: Will & Dan - Fame
Will & Dan's channel:

Деревня Рай. Республика Коми. Village Raj. Komi Republic.

There are several versions of the origin of the name of the village. One says that the village was named after its founders by the name of Raevsky. Another is that this locality was located on the edge, the border. Over time, the letter k in the Russian word disappeared, and it turned out to be Paradise. According to another version, Paradise is derived from the Karelian word raja, which also translates as border. In the village there is a spring, it has a very high iron content, so the gutter through which the water flows is covered with rust. Locals believe that this water has a beneficial effect on health, especially on teeth.
