Travelling to Tsirang from Thimphu for Diwali ll Bhutan

#sangleebunglee #thimphutotsirang #dochulapass

Diwali is an important festival for the Southern Bhutanese (Lhotshampas) of Nepali origin.. On the first day, crows are fed with food for bringing good news. The next day is for the dogs for their loyalty. They get garland over their neck with special food and treats. Then the day after is for the cows. They too get garland over their neck with good food and treats. Cows are considered as a symbol of good luck and paid tribute for providing the families with milk. Then comes Bhai Tika, a day for brothers and sisters to celebrate together where brothers get special treats (good food) from the sisters.

P.S: Dochula was was also built to celebrate the victory of war in Bhutan in the 2003 led by our 4th King Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye wangchuck against militants like ULFA, BODO and KLO. The militants were in multiple ratios compared to Bhutanese Armies. However, our beloved 4th King wisely led the armies and came victorious thus maintaining our sovereignty.

Amid pandemic, my cousin and I decided to travel down south (Tsirang) from Thimphu . Of course we followed protocols/ measures of COVID 19. Moreover we also registered with CPMS prior to travel data.

This Road trip was different. Less cars, only few local vendors, lots of registration stations and many more.

Best Momos in Thimphu, Bhutan, and Bhutanese Archery! (Day 10)

►Subscribe for more videos:

On Day 10 of our Bhutan food and travel trip, we were back in Thimphu for a couple days. For lunch we headed to Momo Corner, a famous restaurant that serves some of the best momos in Thimphu, Bhutan.

Momo Corner - This restaurant is one of the most famous restaurants in all of Thimphu, and His Majesty the King of Bhutan is even known to come by for some momos every now and then. Momos are the Himalayan version of dumplings, available from Tibet to Nepal to India and they are very popular in Bhutan. The momos and the atmosphere at Momo Corner was fantastic.

Bhutanese Archery - Did you know the national sport of Bhutan is archery? After eating momos we had a chance to watch some archery competitions at the archery grounds in Thimphu.

The Bhutanese - For dinner we ate at The Bhutanese for traditional Bhutanese food. Overall, the food was good, but similar to many other meals that we ate on this trip to Bhutan.
