Northern Ontario Road Trip: Temagami, Cobalt, and Haileybury
In this video I share the highlights of my Ontario road trip to Temagami, Cobalt, and Haileybury.
Temagami is definitely the gateway to the North and an ideal location for exploring near-north Ontario. It's easily accessible from North Bay and offers plenty of options for camping, hiking, and exploring some lovely Ontario forests and back roads.
Cobalt is the main stop on the Silver Heritage Trail and one of the most interesting National Historic Sites in Canada. It's an old mining town with lots of well-preserved history and cool areas to explore.
Further North is Temiskaming Shores with the lovely town of Haileybury as one of its highlights. This is a great place to stop and relax while being a great location for exploring Lake Temiskaming.

Also, in 2013, Scientists found the oldest water in the world at Kenaire mine in Timmins, dating back 2 billion years! For a town with such a big history, it sure is a weird place to be!

Limited time, construction and a fast approaching storm hampered our video capture of downtown Timmins, Ontario, Canada. However, we did get to cover much of the downtown core of this Northern Ontario city.
Located on the Mattagami River, Timmins is nearly 300 kilometres north of Sudbury and 720 KM north of downtown Toronto. Established in 1912, originally built around gold mining, the population is closing in on 50,000.

Canada.ca estimates eight million French speakers in Canada in 2023.
But it is statistically safe to estimate nearly 10 million people speak French in Canada by 2024(which is a significant number).
Of that 622,415 francophones are in Ontario - the largest Francophone minority community in Canada outside of Québec. That number also based on a 2016 Census out of Statistics Canada. So it must be nearing 1 million by now (2024). That accounts for over 22% of Canadians who speak French as their first official language.
Interestingly, in Quebec the proportion of people who speak French as their first official language fell by 1.5% between 2016 and 2021.
