Sunny Autumn Scottish Double Decker Bus Route from Alloa to Stirling | Bus 51 | Scotland in 4K

[4K] Immersive 360° Binaural Audio. Afternoon Scottish Bus Ride from Alloa to Stirling.

Hello...Thanks for joining me again for more tour bus tales as we board Midlands Bluebird Bus 51 from Alloa High St. to Stirling Bus Station. Filmed aboard the double decker from the second storey and upper deck of the city tour bus. This video offers a wide angle view of the charming streets and countryside of Central Scotland, including the Ochil Hills Range.

Alloa is a small town in Clackmannanshire and 8 miles east of the city of Stirling.

The town developed at a ford and ferry crossing on the River Forth and expanded rapidly during the early industrial revolution. The main industries were glass-ware, textiles, ship building and brewing. Today the town’s economy is centered around retail and leisure.

Alloa's main attraction is the carefully restored Alloa Tower. This medieval tower is Scotland’s largest and oldest keep. It was built on land acquired by the Eriskine family before passing into the hands of the Earls of Mar. Standing on the parapet, the Firth of Forth stretches away before you. Alloa Tower is one of many which can be discovered on the 'Tower Trail' through the area.

So sit back...relax ???? and enjoy the gentle hum of the bus, and low level chatter of the passengers for a truly asmr sound experience.

Old Photographs Tillicoultry Clackmannanshire Scotland

Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Tillicoultry, Scottish Gaelic: Tulach Cultraidh, a town in Clackmannanshire. Tillicoultry is one of the Hillfoots Villages on the A91 road, which runs from Stirling to St. Andrews in Fife. Tillicoultry is situated at the southern base of the Ochil Hills. Due to the rapid growth of the village during the 19th century, there were problems with overcrowding, poor housing, high infant mortality, water supply and drainage. In an attempt to address these problems, Tillicoultry Burgh was created in 1871. Around 1930, one of the first bus stations in the country was built at Murray Square to serve the eight bus services which terminated in the town. As the textile and coal mining industries declined, Tillicoultry became a popular commuter town. Many of the mill buildings have been converted into residential accommodation. Tillicoultry railway station, on the Devon Valley Railway was situated opposite Devonvale Hall, and closed in 1964. Captain James Dalgleish Pollock was born in Tillicoultry on 3 June 1890, he died on 10 May 1958. He was a Scottish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Colonel James Lennox Dawson, born in Tillicoultry on 25 December 1891, died 15 February 1967, was a Scottish recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces.

The Hidden Secrets of Glen Devon

A trip to the centre of the Ochil hills and the upper Glen Devon reservoir, to visit a place that has been hidden and inaccessible for 18 years but recently became within reach due to the second driest summers in 160 years.

It was really interesting to make this video and learn about the history of the glen, how the reservoirs came to be and the important role they play today. It's a lovely peaceful area tucked away from the surrounding towns and villages and makes for a nice scenic walk.

Worth a wee visit!

I hope you enjoy!
Kris.

Tillicoultry Old Graveyard

A new video is available now at

Nothing that is identifiable with certainty survives of the medieval parish church, but it is known to have been within a graveyard to the south-east of Tillicoultry House, which is now surrounded by modern housing.

The entry in the Old Statistical Account, published in 1795, states that the old parish church and manse were in the graveyard in the vicinity of Tillicoultry House (itself now demolished), and the first edition of the Ordnance Survey shows the house immediately to the north-west of the graveyard. The slope to the south of the graveyard was called Kirk Hill. The old church was replaced by a new one on a more convenient site, on Dollar Road, which the Statistical Account says was built in 1773; however, the new churchyard has at least one monument dating from the late seventeenth century, suggesting that the move took place earlier, perhaps to enhance the privacy of the occupants of Tillicoultry House. The eighteenth-century church was in turn superseded by the church which remains in use, and which was built to the designs of William Stirling in 1827-9.

The old graveyard was evidently in use for burials from at least the twelfth century on the evidence of two coped monuments, one of which has the tegulation usually associated with hogback stones; the other of those stones is probably later, and has been re-used to mark a post-Reformation burial. The location of the church within the graveyard is unknown, but it is worth noting that the part of the north boundary wall to the west of the gateway is thicker than might be expected for such an enclosure wall, and the possibility cannot be ruled out that it is a relic of the church. One possible fragment from the church in the churchyard is what appears to be a stone from the apex of a coped gable, in which there is the socket for a cross or finial; however, the stone is now so weathered that it is difficult to determine if it is of medieval or later date.

UKFrance2016 - Day 9 - 12 - Scotland

Join us, Meredith and Dan, on our voyage to the UK and France!

Day 9 - Leaving our YHA hostel in the Lake District for my most favorite road trip ever. Stopped at Hadrian's wall, a 12th century priory, and the William Wallace Monument.

Day 10 - Starting out at our B&B in Tillicoultry, then headed into the Trossachs National Park (which was very flooded!). Hung out with a wee hee-lund coo for a while before spending the afternoon exploring Blackness Castle. Erskine is significant to us because my brother in law is an Erskine!

Day 11 - Edinburgh! Rainy day, explored the Royal Mile. Mary King's Close was awesome. We are starting to miss our kitties something fierce.

Day 12 - Edinburgh! Didn't get enough love from the Couchsurfing cat host, so we decided to stroll on over to the cat cafe via Calton Hill. Shopping, eating. Headed to Brighton next!

Mercer Vault St John's Kirk Perth Perthshire Scotland

Tour Scotland video of the Mercer Vault plaque on ancestry visit to St John's Kirk in Perth, Perthshire. Behold the arms of the Mercers are Three mill rynds, three geid balls, with glittering star, To let the world know that their ancient race Possess'd three mills, for many ages space In pleasant Perth, near situate the Tay, Which mills Perth keeps unto this present day. Three balss next show them potent in each thing Therefore they gift these mills unto the king Who for their golden gift and loyal mind With arched tomb in church did them provide, With lands, rents, arms of privilege and fame Kept now by Aldie's lairds, chief of their name. Lastly the star, clear shining as a gem, Proves their descent out of Moravian stem. Likewise their will and virtue doth presage In name and fame to last with shining age. Therefore men may avow with justest breath Mercers are, yea, older than old Perth.

The surname Mercer was first found in Northumberland but as a frequent occupational name, many records were found in various parts of ancient England

Without a doubt, Scotland holds the most history for this family. One of the first records there was William Mercer or le Mercer who witnessed two charters in favor of the Abbey of Kelso, c. 1200. A few years later, Aleumnus Mercer was party with twenty-three others to a bond given by Alexander 11 to Henry III in 1244 to keep the peace. He had a grant of Tillicoultry from Walter, son of Alan. His son and successor of the same name resigned his lands into the king's hands in 1261.

Livingston Designer Outlet is the largest outlet mall in Scotland, and opened in October 2000 under the ownership of McArthur Glen as McArthur Glen Livingston Designer Outlet and sits opposite the popular The Centre (Livingston) shopping centre. The glass roof reminiscent of the Crystal Palace was designed by an architect called Don Hisaka.

In August 2013 the complex was renamed to 'Livingston Designer Outlet' as the site was sold to LaSalle Investment Management. Since 2018, the centre has undergone a huge makeover in which the company has invested several million pounds.
