Having previously been to Belgium a few times before, I was already looking forward to visiting here again. So, when I got an opportunity to explore Ghent for a Ghent City Tour, there was no way I was gonna let that slide!

For a city with population of a 0.25M, the place offers a good blend between cosmopolitan and medieval vibe. Ghent is also thriving as many young people choose to live here instead of the countryside or the crowded city centers of say Brussels, Antwerp and so on.

Getting to Ghent is easy from many places in Belgium and the Netherlands. You can reach here by a car, a bus or even take a train.

Once you’ve arrived, almost immediately you’ll notice that the place has a fairly compact city center and it’s easily navigable on foot. Imposing architectures, bustling streets with tourists and the views – all of which confirm that the place still breathes the atmosphere of a thriving late-medieval city state.

If you want stunning, panoramic, views of Ghent, definitely visit the Belfry! It sits right in the middle of the city and with it’s 91 meter tall tower, you’ll have a bird’s eye view of the city.

Graslei and Korenlei are the two streets on either side of the canal in old town Ghent. This is the heart of the city!

Boat trips start at this point and taking a canal tour is a great way to get some history of Ghent with a unique view of the city.

A ticket for 8 Euros per adult, they are totally worth. It’s nice and relaxing just to sail around and listen to all the information while soaking in the beautiful architecture of the city.

Unlike most of the rest of Europe, Ghent’s medieval architecture remains remarkably well preserved and restored. Cars are banned in the city center thus making it Belgium’s largest carfree area! You will notice this during the Ghent City Tour

The boat tour passes through few bridges and many arches, some of which have a low elevation. The boats don’t move that fast, but I can see that it’s easily possible to hurt yourself here if you’re not careful.

Working on ship and then taking a boat tour during vacation, must not be interesting, right? Wrong! Personally I feel that sightseeing in certain cities is incomplete if you don’t take the boat tour. You could be waking the streets all day long and covered everything that’s there to see, but it’s a different perspective that you get when taking one of these boat tours.

Also, you find out incredible amount of information during these tours including the Ghent City Tour ! Like for example, did you know that during the Dark Ages, Ghent was the 2nd largest city in Europe? I didn’t! The largest was Paris by the way.

Also right in the heart of Ghent is Gravensteen Castle.

If you’ve only got a few meals in Ghent, you want to make sure every single one is amazing! Of course, Belgian chocolates are world famous, but so are the Belgian noses and the various waffle combinations - don’t forget to try as many as you can!

Public transport here is affordable and usually on time. Also, you can save upto 50% of the cost by buying your ticket from the machine over buying from the driver of the tram/bus.

Overall, I’d say Ghent will need more than just one day of your time and trust me, the experience is totally worth it! With some of the richest medivial history in Europe, I think the city is quite under rated for the experience it offers. 2-3 days of stay here should ideally be the sweet spot.

There’s lot of things to do in Bruges Belgium, right from looking at medieval architecture to eating chocolate.

Welcome to Robbie Travels and today we will explore Bruges, the capital of West Flanders, also known as the Venice of the north thanks to its many, many canals.

Bruges is located in the northwest corner of Belgium. Bruges is a mere 44km from Ghent to the southeast and 145 from Brussels. Wonder at medieval rooftops that step up to the sky, a history that spans back to the Vikings, canals, flemish masterpieces of art and architecture, rambling cobblestone alleys, chocolate shops on every corner and of course the beer, the enjoyment expands to every sense.

Today Bruges is once again a thriving community with a population of 120,000 people, and the medieval center is one of the most beautiful in Europe. A Bruges city break means canal side walks, traditional local beers and unhurried shopping among medieval architecture. In the little town of Mejorada del Campo, an ex-monk named Justo Gallego has spent more than fifty years building a cathedral by himself. It is more impressive considering that he has no formal training in architecture or engineering.

The petrified forest has been a fixture of the island’s geography for thousands of years, since a violent period of volcanic activity flooded the island with lave and preserved an entire forest.

5. Starkenberger Brewery’s Beer Pools, Austria
There may be a lot of breweries scattered throughout Europe, but Starkenberger Brewery is the only one that lets visitors swim in the beer. Seven 13-foot swimming pools, each filled with 42,000 pints of beer, are available to travelers.

6. Museum of Broken Relationships, Croatia
The concept behind Zagreb’s Museum of Broken Relationships proved so intriguing that it has inspired sister branches in Los Angeles and Tokyo. The strange little collection showcases the mementos of relationships that have imploded.

7. Portugal dos Pequenitos, Portugal
Opened in 1940, Portugal dos Pequenitos is precisely what its name translates to: Little Ones. Everything from the country’s most famous monuments to traditional Portuguese homes has been recreated in miniature, so visitors can see everything Portugal has to offer without actually taking the time to visit every attraction.

8. Mundaneum, Belgium
Beginning in 1910, Otlet and Nobel Peace Prize winner Henri LaFontaine started collecting every piece of knowledge available to humanity and then recording it on an index card, resulting in 12 million perfectly sorted cards of information across every conceivable academic discipline.

9. Pripyat, Ukraine
Afetr the worst nuclear disaster in human history, the 49,000 people who lived in Pripyat, were forced to evacuate and then unable to return for years. Now they are losing the fight against nature. If spooky ghost towns are your deal, you cannot do better than Pripyat.

10. The Nose Academy, Sweden
It keeps 100 meticulously arranged plaster casts of Scandinavian noses. From famous people you probably wouldn’t recognize to non-famous people, the Nose Museum is indeed worth the trip. Okay, it’s only worth the trip because of its weird factor.

Belgium Travel Vlog ✨ A Day at Lac de l'Eau d'Heure

Hello Guys! Welcome and in today’s Belgium travel vlog, I am going to explore Lac de l'Eau d'Heure, Wallonia.

▶️ Please Subscribe:

The name Lac de l'Eau d'Heure, which translates as lake of the water of one hour, indicates that if it rained strongly for one hour, the lake would be filled. At the boundary of the provinces of Namur and Hainaut, this combined lake of five lakes is the largest artificial lake in Belgium. Lac de l'Eau d'Heure and Lac de la Plate Taille are the two largest lakes. Feronval Lake, Ri Jaune Lake, and Falemprise Lake are the three smaller lakes that feed into Lac de l'Eau d'Heure.

These five lakes are surrounded by five dams, including Barrage de Plate Taille, the largest dam in Belgium, which is situated between the two main lakes. The other four dams block the Sambre River tributary that feeds Lac de l'Eau d'Heure, together with the other three smaller lakes.

At Les Lacs de l'Eau d'Heure, you kind of just want to sit down and decompress by the lake. There are a lot of people here on a warm day, yet there is space for everyone! Find a place to just relax and stretch your legs, then pack your picnic.

▶️In this video I have visited the following places:

• I do a hike around the main lake.
• Take a ride in the Red Crocodile (Le Crocodile Rouge).
• Have a late lunch at Robin's cafe.
• And visit the Plate Taille Dam (the largest dam in Belgium)

So, watch the video till the end and let me know which place do you like most?
