Places to see in ( Fordingbridge - UK )

Fordingbridge is a town and civil parish with a population of 6,000 on the River Avon in the New Forest District of Hampshire, England, near to the Dorset and Wiltshire borders and on the edge of the New Forest. It is 81 miles (130 km) southwest of London, and 10 miles (16 km) south of the city of Salisbury. Fordingbridge is a former market town. The Avon Valley Path passes through the town.

Fordingbridge is a town and civil parish in Hampshire on the banks of the River Avon. The first Great Bridge, from which the town received its present name, was built in mediaeval times, and is upstream from the ford. The bridge is a major feature of the town with its seven graceful arches, which can be seen very easily from the town's large riverside park where one can walk along the riverbank draped with willows and waterside plants. Close by is a children's play area, secluded memorial gardens, parks and sports playing fields. A bronze statue of the painter Augustus John stands on the banks of the Avon near the Great Bridge.

Not far from the High Street is the parish church of St. Mary the Virgin which has some typical Norman characteristics. Lands in Fordingbridge and the advowson of the church were granted to King's College, Cambridge in 1447 by Henry VI, after being given to the Crown by Humphrey, Duke of Buckingham.

The Fordingbridge Museum, which houses local history exhibits, and the Visitor Information Centre are located in King's Yard. There is also a Roman villa in the nearby village of Rockbourne, which is open to visitors during the summer. The local comprehensive school is The Burgate School And Sixth Form Centre, which is situated in Burgate, a small hamlet to the north of the town. Fordingbridge Hospital is a small community hospital on the site of a Victorian workhouse. Most of the old buildings remain but the inpatient ward is a more recent addition. The town's medical centre is on the same site in Bartons Road

Since 1982 Fordingbridge has been twinned with Vimoutiers in Normandy. Fordingbridge is also home to Fordingbridge Turks FC, one of the 50 oldest football clubs in England, established circa 1868. The Turks name seems to derive from wishing to emulate the determination shown by Ottoman forces at Siege of Plevna. The recreation ground is also home to Fordingbridge Rugby Club, who have been one of the more successful Hampshire clubs in recent years.

The parish of Fordingbridge contains the hamlets of Burgate to the north, Criddlestyle to the east, Bickton to the south, and Ashford to the west. Burgate and Bickton are settlements dating back to the time of the Domesday Book, and in fact Bickton was a larger settlement than Fordingbridge in 1086. Criddlestyle is an ancient manor, also known as East Mill, with a history dating back to the 14th century. The largest hamlet today is Ashford, which was the location of an ancient watermill, and was the location of Fordingbridge railway station until it was closed in 1964.

The first bridge at Fordingbridge was built before 1252, when the bailiff and men of the town received a grant of pontage for one year towards its repairs. A custom which survived until 1840 obliged the lord of Fordingbridge during one summer month known as fence month to keep the bridge guarded and arrest anyone found taking venison from the New Forest.

Amesbury (/ˈeɪmzbəri/) is a town and civil parish in Wiltshire, England. It is most famous for the prehistoric monument of Stonehenge which is in its parish, and for the discovery of the Amesbury Archer—dubbed the King of Stonehenge in the press—in 2002. It has been confirmed by archaeologists that it is the oldest continuously occupied settlement in the United Kingdom, having been first settled around 8820 BC.[2]

King Alfred the Great left it in his will, a copy of which is in the British Library, to his youngest son Aethelweard (c.880-922).

Eleanor of Provence, Queen consort of Henry III of England, died in Amesbury on 24 or 25 June 1291, and was buried in Amesbury Priory.

The parish includes the hamlets of Ratfyn and West Amesbury, and most of Boscombe Down military airfield.Economy
Avient Aviation had its United Kingdom offices in the Minton Distribution Park in Amesbury.[23][24]

Transport
Amesbury is 6 miles (10 km) from the nearest station at Grateley on the London to Salisbury line. The town's own station, Amesbury railway station, was closed in 1963 along with the rest of the Bulford Camp Railway.

Amesbury Bus Station closed in January 2014 along with the station in nearby Salisbury as a cost cutting measure,[25] but longer distance Salisbury Reds services still stop in the town. Stagecoach operate a Salisbury-Amesbury-Tidworth-Andover service,[26] and National Express coaches run Salisbury-Amesbury-London.[27]

Places to see in ( Marlborough - UK )

Marlborough is a market town and civil parish in the English county of Wiltshire on the Old Bath Road, the old main road from London to Bath. Marlborough boasts the second widest high street in Britain, after Stockton-on-Tees.

The town of Marlborough is at the heart of the Church of England Marlborough deanery in the diocese of Salisbury in the province of Canterbury. The rural dean has responsibility for the benefices of Marlborough, Ridgeway, Upper Kennet and Whitton which in total comprise 16 parishes. Of the town's two Church of England parish churches, St Peter's has been made redundant and converted into an arts centre. St Mary's remains in use for worship.

Although once served by two railway lines (the Great Western Railway and the Midland and South Western Junction Railway) the town no longer has any direct rail access. The nearest stations are Pewsey (6.7 m.), Bedwyn (6.9 m.), and Swindon (12.7 m.). Marlborough is well connected by road with the A4 from Hungerford to Calne, A346 from Tidworth to Swindon and A345 from Salisbury meeting there.

Every summer the town of Marlborough holds a jazz festival with local pubs, clubs, hotels and various other venues playing host to live jazz music over the course of a weekend. The Marlborough mop fair was originally a hiring fair for agricultural workers seeking employment, but now has become a travelling funfair.

London Buckingham Palace Changing of the Guard

Changing of the Guard takes place outside Buckingham Palace on certain days from 10:45 and lasts around 45 minutes, with the actual handover taking place at 11am.

In this London vlog, we saw change guards happen after a long break due to Covid-19, therefore there were many cameramen and media outside Buckingham Palace.

After we saw the changing guards, we passed by St James Park, Trafalgar Square and finally reached Covent Garden for lunch. After that, we went to Whitehall Gardens for a stroll and admired the flowers. We passed by Westminster Bridge and the London Eye on the way back.

Redhill Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Surrey, and around 20 miles south of central London, is the town of Redhill.

For centuries, the area where Redhill stands today was little more than a tiny rural community. This began to change in 1818 with the construction of the London to Brighton Road. With this, rapid development occurred around Warwick Road, and consequently the settlement was initially named 'Warwick Town'. The name 'Redhill' came in around 1856, allegedly from when the post office moved from Red Hill Common into the town centre.

Further expansion occurred with the coming of the railway. In 1840 the London and Brighton Railway decided that the historical town of Reigate two miles to the west would be bypassed, and instead the line would pass through Redhill. In doing so, it gained popularity as a commuter town. In 1849 a branch line to Reigate opened. This line would eventually extend to Reading, which remains to this day, making Redhill a key junction station.

During the Second World War Redhill played a crucial role in the Dunkirk evacuation, known as Operation Dynamo. In 1940, upon reaching Dover and Folkestone, the troops required safe passage to army depots and camps situated in places such as Aldershot, Tidworth, Warminster, Blandford and Bovington. With easy access to Aldershot, Woking and Reading, Redhill's junction station stepped up its efforts, accommodating a huge amount of passengers heading west, providing not only a quick turnaround, but also refreshments for the troops - many of whom hadn't eaten for days. All in all, over 300 thousand troops, and a further 48,000 children from the coastal towns of Kent, were evacuated to safety.

Author Nick Hornby was born in Redhill.

King Charles III Coronation Procession - Saturday 6th May 2023

The Coronation of King Charles III took place on Saturday 6th May 2023 and despite the heavy rain an impressive procession of nearly 7,000 armed forces personnel marched from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace. Please enjoy these small insights into the procession from two viewpoints on the road at Whitehall and then also at Buckingham Palace for the troops arriving.
At Whitehall:
00:00 Coronation Bells - The Bands of HM Royal Marines Portsmouth and Collingwood step off
01:07 Coronation Bells - The Massed Bands of the Household Division
03:01 The Bond of Friendship
03:32 The Royal Canadian Mounted Police
04:10 The Sovereign's Escort
At Buckingham Palace
05:20 Under the White Ensign - British Army Bands Sandhurst and Colchester
05:40 Scarlet and Gold - British Army Bands Tidworth and Catterick
06:07 The Bands of HM Royal Marines Portsmouth and Collingwood
06:24 The Massed Bands of the Household Division
07:19 The King's Guard

The Coronation Procession is formed of 8 processional groups, each representing a different part of of the armed forces (as noted above with the time stamps) and each having a combined band to march them.
This coronation procession is the first time click track technology is being used within the ears of bass drummers and drum majors to allow all of the bands to march at exactly the same time and play the same music without there being a delay from the band in front or behind causing troops to et confused and out of step like has previously happened on large scale processions with multiple bands like this. As a military music enthusiast it is interesting to note the seamless transitions between the bands passing the spectator playing the same march with only the texture of the sound changing relative to the type of new band that is now approaching!

To watch the entire procession uninterrupted pass through Admirality Arch at 3AM during an over night rehearsal a few days before the main event please follow the link below:
