1. The Singapore Botanic Gardens is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Singapore. The gardens are home to a variety of plant life, as well as a few animals including the endangered Malayan tapir.

The gardens are also home to the National Orchid Garden, which is the largest orchid garden in the world. Admission to the Botanic Gardens is free, making it a great activity for those on a budget.

2. National Museum of Singapore
With its history going back to 1849 when it started as the Raffles Library and Museum, the National Museum of Singapore is the nation’s oldest museum and one of the city’s major landmarks.

The museum is home to a variety of exhibits, including a section on the history of Singapore, as well as galleries on art, Southeast Asia, and natural history. If you have time to visit only one place to learn about the history and culture of Singapore, this is probably it.

3. Gardens by the bay
Trust us on this one - Gardens by the Bay is the only one of its kind. Located by the Marina Bay waterfront, Gardens by the Bay is a surreal coming together of horticulture, technology and architecture and is completely free for anyone to visit.

While access to the conservatories and walkways are ticketed, you can spend your day walking among giant super-trees, seeing stunning floral gardens and admiring one of the most fascinating pieces of architecture anywhere in the world without spending a dollar.

4. Mount Faber
While the hill isn't the tallest in Singapore, Mount Faber's top offers exceptional views of Singapore's increasingly dense central business district and is the perfect hiking spot in Singapore. You can hike to its top via Marang Trail or the Southern Ridges Park Connector. Both paths will take you through secondary rainforests that cover its slopes.

5. MacRitchie Treetop Walk
Set among the rainforests of MacRitchie Nature Reserve, the Treetop Walk is a highlight of many a hiking trails that go through these forests.

The walkway is a free-standing suspension bridge that connects the two highest points in MacRitchie and offers a bird's eye view of the plants and animals that live in the forest canopy.

6. Live music at Esplanade
The Esplanade is one of the busiest art centers in the world. Enjoy a cultural evening, admiring performances from various local bands, traditional dance forms and theatre shows. The Esplanade comprises a theatre, a concert hall, and an outdoor performance zone, which can be accessed for free.

7. Marina Bay Sands Lightshow

Yes, we know, the Marina Bay Sands resort is expensive if you choose to dine or stay there. But what's absolutely free is Spectra - the light shows that take place every day from 8 PM and goes on till 9 PM, or 11 PM on weekends.

Get a spot on the Event Plaza in the Promenade and watch the three towers throw multicoloured light beams into the Singapore night. Watch the 15-minute show unfold in a four-part story, and a beautiful symphony of dancing fountain jets, colourful visual projections and lasers – all led by an orchestral soundtrack.

8. Buddha Tooth Relic Temple
A temple nested in the Chinatown district, the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple is one of the most sacred places in Singapore and is a popular tourist destination.

The Temple draws Buddhist devotees from across the world as it houses an alleged tooth of the founder of Buddhism, Siddharta Gautama. This place of worship can be visited for free by locals and tourists.

9. Changi Point Broadwalk
The Changi Point is one of the most popular beaches in Singapore along its east coast. With a boardwalk of 2.2 kilometers along the coast, there are plenty of free things to do along the Changi Boardwalk.

The Boardwalk is divided into 6 sections, each one offering an outstanding view for its visitors.

10. Bukit Timah Mountain Bike Trail
Think mountain biking in Singapore and the name Bukit Timah immediately springs to mind. It is one of the most popular trails for mountain biking in Singapore.

Singapore Travel Guide and Budget 2023: How Much I Spent in 2 Weeks

Are you planning to travel to Singapore soon? If yes, then check out this video on Singapore Travel Guide and Budget to know more to plan a trip to this beautiful country on an affordable budget.

????️ Check out my favorite travel essentials here:

????Tourist Visa

To apply for Singapore Tourist Visa, you need to approach a certified Travel Agent or ask a local Singapore Resident to apply for you online.

The cost comes out to approximately 2500 INR and you can get a visa validity of anywhere between a month and 2 years.

How to Apply for Singapore Visa:

➡️How to Reach Singapore

????Cruise: There are cruises available from India but they can be a little expensive.

????Flights: You can get direct flights to Singapore from most cities. From Delhi, it took me around 20k INR for a return flight by Vistara. The flight journey was around 5.5 hours and included meals, drinks, entertainment, and more.

Delhi to Singapore Journey:

????SIM Card in Singapore

At the airport, you will find lots of SIM card options available. Personally, I bought Singtel for $15 hi!Tourist 2-in-1 SIM Card

This offers 100GB for 28 days along with 3 GB roaming data for traveling to Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, or Thailand. You also use this card for using the MRT and buses in Singapore, it comes with 3 SGD values in it.

????Forex Card or Cash or Credit Card

If you have a credit card and debit card enabled for international transactions, then you can use that at most places for paying.

Apart from that you can get SGD in cash from India from BookMyForex, they offer the best forex cash rates most of the time and the process is quite simple too. Or you can get a Forex card from them as that's cheaper than buying Forex cash.

➡️How to Travel in Singapore

????Metros - Singapore is well-connected with MRT stations and it can cost you up to 2 SGD to reach a destination.

????Buses - Singapore also has a good bus network and the charges are similar to metro travel but it will take you longer to reach a destination.

????Cabs - Of course, cabs are expensive and you can expect to pay around 20 SGD for a 10-15 km distance.

Expect to spend around 500-1000 INR on transportation every day.

????️Where to Stay in Singapore

????Hotels - The cost of the hotels depends on when you are visiting but expect to spend around 2500-3500 INR per person for a night.

????Hostels - Hostels are not cheap in Singapore so expect to spend around 1500-2500 INR per night here.

????Where and What to Eat in Singapore

Bugis - Bugis Street is home to many street vendors where you can try some local delicacies that cost 8 SGD or less and are super filling.

Hawker Centers - For cheap local delicacies, Hawker Centers are the perfect places to eat in Singapore. A meal here will cost you anywhere between 5 and 15 SGD.

Malls - If you are exploring malls, you will get all the fast food joints like McD, Starbucks, and where you can easily spend 10-20 SGD on food.

Restaurants - Of course, if you choose to eat in a restaurant, you can expect to spend around 30-40 SGD per person for a meal if not more.

????️Shopping in Singapore

Of course, if you are traveling to Singapore, then you might be interested in buying some clothes, accessories, or electronics as well. Now, shopping in Singapore is not particularly cheap unless you are visiting Bugis Street, Chinatown, and similar places.

➡️Entry Fees and Attraction Costs

There are many attractions and activities in Singapore that you can visit or try. Most of the attractions charge an entry fee of 800 - 3500 INR.

A few adventures like indoor skydiving at iFLY can be a little expensive but definitely worth it. A few attractions that I would suggest you are:

S.E.A Aquarium - 43 SGD
Sentosa Island - 4-10 SGD (250-600 INR)
Museum of Ice Cream - 40 SGD
Cloud Forest and Flower Dome - 53 SGD
River Cruise - 20-25 SGD
IFly - 60-110 SGD

Other attractions to consider

Singapore Zoo and Night Safari - starting at 55 SGD
Universal Studios - 82 SGD
Singapore Flyer - starting at 40 SGD
SkyPark Observation Deck - 25-33 SGD
ArtScience Museum - 46 SGD or more

Free Attractions

Singapore Botanic Gardens
Chinatown
Little India
Jewel Changi
Clarke Quay
Fort Canning Park
Gardens by the Bay

????Total Cost for 1-2 People for a 2-Week Trip

If you are a budget traveler like me, using mostly public transportation and mindful of what you eat, then you can expect to spend around 1.5 - 2 lakh INR for 2 people for a 2-week trip.

If you are looking for a more relaxed trip, then expect to spend around 1-1.2 lakh INR for a 7-day trip per person.

Best new place to stay in Washington DC - The sexy-chic Thompson Hotel in The Yards.

Thompson Hotel DC
221 Tingey St SE, Washington, DC 20003

I was super excited to stay in Washington DC's new built to order hip neighborhood, the yards, that took the defunct navy yard and magically transformed it into a epicurean and tastemaker paradise. At the center of it and a stone's throw from the baseball field, is the luxuriously sleek Thompson hotel. A premiere Hyatt property, the rooms here are nothing less than dreamy, offering casual white glove service and some very clever amenities you wish you had at home. I also liked their cheeky sexy nod that we are in an adult's playground part of town. While the hotel offers views that beckon you to explore DC, there is a strong case for not leaving the yards at all, with Maialino Mare ( right down stairs, honed by my favorite restaurateur Danney Meyer, which was so hot I couldn't even get a table so here's a bunch of pictures of food they might have if you go. And upstairs the party continues with their penthouse lounge Anchovy Social ( which has killer booze, killer food, and killer views that give you a true glimpse into What it's like to live here. Hmmm. They should come over to the bar and have fun. Regardless what kind of night you have in the morning you are met with perhaps the sweetest self serve continental worthy of a Pinterest board for sure, that will fuel you for your conquest of the great city of Washington DC.
