Maldives, Thinadhoo, Vaavu atoll - The best inhabited island - Snorkeling with sharks
After eight days spent in Sri Lanka, we went to Maldives.
We spent a wonderful five days at the Thinadhoo island, which is part of Vaavu Atoll. We stayed at Hotel Plumeria Maldives.
Thinadhoo is a small inhabited island with few and very friendly local people, with a large and clean beach and absolutely beautiful jungle.
Beaches are never crowded and you feel often like you have the whole place to yourself!
Reef is wonderful with plenty of fish, turtles, little sharks and stingrays. You can even see the dolphins.
Beautiful was also a morning snorkeling with Nurse sharks near Dhiggiri island.

Maldives is absolutely magical and I got lucky enough to spend 3 weeks in this paradise. I compiled this Maldives travel Vlog to show you the best local islands in Maldives.
I started my journey in Fulidhoo which is one of the best local islands in Maldives. It offers a range of fun activities and those amazing white sand beaches.
I then headed to Maalhos in Baa atoll which is my second favourite is the local islands of Maldives, it offers a lot of beautiful spots and obviously that world famous Hanifaru bay.
The last stop for me was Kamadhoo which is another one of the beautiful local islands of Maldives.

Facing the beachfront, Ecoboo Maldives offers 4-star accommodations in Thinadhoo and has a garden, shared lounge and bar. The 4-star hotel has air-conditioned rooms with a private bathroom and free WiFi. There is free private parking and the property has paid airport shuttle service.
At the hotel, the rooms are equipped with a desk. Rooms come with an electric tea pot, while selected rooms also feature a terrace and others also feature sea views. At Ecoboo Maldives the rooms have bed linen and towels.

It is pronounced as Thenadu in the Southern Maldives dialect.
The name Thinadhoo is derived from Euphorbia hirta, locally known as Thina Vina (Thina Weed) a pantropical weed used for herbal medicines which grew in the island.[2]
The island was formerly known as Havaru Thinadhoo and it was the traditional seat of the Atoll Chief. The island has a vibrant history of unrest and revolution.[3]
Thinadhoo was the wealthiest island in the country before it was forcefully depopulated and demolished entirely in 1962. The rich merchants of the island was known to have assisted even the capital when in need.

Maldives diaries | Thinadhoo | Covid Travel
It was a 5 days trip to Maldives. Since it was unplanned we had a tight budget, and luckily my childhood friend was already staying for his vacation there so it became easy for us to plan.
Due to this pandemic, we had to follow a lot of rules before travelling which again increased our budget too but it was worth every bit at the end.
I would like to share all the details of our stay and activities during our stay.
Flight: Mandatory to book either return or transit flight if you are planning for a tourist visa.
Bangalore to Male to and fro - 15000 pax
Visa : Visa on Arrival free for Indian nationals
Hotels : Mandatory to book your stay during the period of your visit. And have the booking confirmation handy during immigrations
We stayed at Culture Villa Thinadhoo 80$ per night for 2 pax with breakfast
Thinadhoo is around 75 km from Male and by speed boat, it takes around 1.5 hrs. It's a small island with 70 people approx and its beautiful and people are amazing
As of 16th August 2021 : RT PCR was Mandatory before entering Maldives and test had to be done with 72hrs from travelling.
Also PCR test had to be done while returning which costed 75$ per pax
Note : During this period travelling to few private islands for a change of stay or day visit also needed PCR test so we opted to stay on one island during our complete stay.
Transport :
Since we landed pretty late we had to book a private boat to Thinadhoo which costed us around 275$ one way.
While returning we paid 55$ per pax since it was a public boat.
If one gets a public boat it would cost around 50$ per pax one way. Public ferries are also available and cheaper options but would take a longer time to reach.
Food : Thinadhoo as of August has a couple of restaurants that provide mostly Italian food, but if requested and ordered prior they would cook as per our choice so we could have Italian, Maldivian and also Indian cuisines.
Lunch and Dinner cost around 15-20$ per pax
Activities:
Snorkling : Since my friend was already staying there before we reached he had spoken to and planned all the activities.
Day 1 : we did Shark snorkling and night fishing 50$ per pax
Day 2: scuba diving 100$ per pax. Its conducted by Davide and Laura , a beautiful Italian couple, It's named Thinadhoo Maldive Dive,
Day 3 : We went to an uninhabitant island Fotteyo for day excursion and fishing and then ship wreck snorkling. It costed us around 65$ per pax
The total cost for 2 people was 1.5 lkh INR inclusive of all the fun.

Gadhdhoo is an inhabited island in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll administrative division and geographically in the Huvadhoo Atoll in the southern part of the Maldives. It is an island-level administrative constituency in upper south province, governed by the Gadhdhoo island Council.
Gadhdhoo is famous for its thundukunaa. The intricately woven mats are produced from a reed called hau. Gadhdhoo was the atoll capital of the Gaaf Dhaalu atoll in 1960s. Later the atoll capital was moved to Thinadhoo island in same atoll.
