Northern Ontario Road Trip: Temagami, Cobalt, and Haileybury

In this video I share the highlights of my Ontario road trip to Temagami, Cobalt, and Haileybury.

Temagami is definitely the gateway to the North and an ideal location for exploring near-north Ontario. It's easily accessible from North Bay and offers plenty of options for camping, hiking, and exploring some lovely Ontario forests and back roads.

Cobalt is the main stop on the Silver Heritage Trail and one of the most interesting National Historic Sites in Canada. It's an old mining town with lots of well-preserved history and cool areas to explore.

Further North is Temiskaming Shores with the lovely town of Haileybury as one of its highlights. This is a great place to stop and relax while being a great location for exploring Lake Temiskaming.

Top 5 things to do in Northeastern Ontario- SECRET locations in Northern Ontario

Northern Ontario is filled with so many things to do that most people have probably never heard of. In this video, I'll go over my top 5 things to see in northeastern Ontario for this summer. I have decided to break it down for just the northeast because it wouldn't be fair to say just Northern Ontario with so much out west that I still plan to explore. I will have more information on how to find some of these places below.

#5: Screaming Heads of Midlothian Castle, Burks Falls, Ontario.

This is probably one of the weirdest but also most unique places i've ever been to in my life. It is about a 3 hour drive from Toronto and is 10 minutes off the main highway so it's not too hard to find. There you'll find strange statues all over Peter Camini, the artists, property. It is free to enter and make sure to have at least 2 or 3 hours free to explore the screaming heads.

#4: Temagami Fire tower, Temagami, Ontario.

Just under a 5 hour drive north of Toronto is the highly underrated Temagami Fire tower. The fire tower is just 5 minutes off the highway and is a very easy hike to get to. First check out the platform to take in the breathtaking view and after that make sure to climb up the 100ft tower to see a 360 view of Temagami.

#3: Eau claire gorge, Calvin, Ontario.

This is my new favourite hike in the area and I've just recently found out about this place. Eau claire gorge is about a 4 hour drive north of Toronto and is an easy hike with the best part of the being the gorge that drops 40 feet below. Make sure to brings snacks and water as there isn't too much around there.

#2: Devil's Rock, Temiskaming shores, Ontario.

This has to be the most breathtaking on this list and is truly a hidden gem in northern Ontario. I have no idea why nobody is talking about this place and I've only just found out about it last year. A 6 hour drive north is definitely worth this as it truly took my breath away. I will leave a link to the location to the main trail as I've driven past it twice.

Just a short 15 minute hike in, you'll come onto the incredible view of Devils rock which is a 300 foot rock cliff overlooking Lake Timiskaming. Make sure to not get too close to the edge as there is no fencing and is it quite sketchy but the views alone make it worth going.

#1: Talon Chutes, Mattawa River, Ontario.

Number 1 on my list is Talon Chutes, a series of waterfalls and cliffs located on the Mattawa River. This is a very popular place for cliff jumpers and groups of friends to have drinks and spend the day.

We drove to Talon Lake Campground & Marina and from there took our kayaks to the chutes. After about 30 minutes, you should get to the dam on Bolvin lake, where you'll have to tie off your kayaks and walk for another 10 minutes to get to the chutes.

Temiskaming Shores Has One Of The Best Views In All Of Ontario!

Just outside of the small town of Cobalt, in the Temiskaming Shores area, you can access one of the most incredible views in all of Onatario!

Locally known as devil's rock lookout, you get to look across the entirety of Lake Temiskaming, and into Quebec.

The 100 meter (330 foot) cliffs are a sheer drop-off to the water below - there are no railings, so watch your footing - and from this high vantage point, the views are absolutely stunning!

To access the lookout, you would turn off of the #11 Highway (Trans-Canada) onto the secondary highway 11B, this will bring you to the town of Cobalt, drive through Cobalt and continue on 11B for another 5-10 minutes until you reach North Cobalt (North Cobalt is part of the town of Hailybury) You will see a sign when you reach North Cobalt directing you to secondary highway #567 towards the lookout.
travel #567 for 5-10 minutes and keep an eye on your left hand side for the trailhead. there is a small parking area that can only accommodate 3-4 cars - it is usually full, so parking is then on the side of the road.

6 Amazing Viewpoints in Ontario: Canada Travel

This little guide goes over some of my favourite viewpoints I've visited across Ontario over the last several months. They showcase some of the most beautiful sunsets and lookouts that I've discovered not just here in my home province, but anywhere. From Calabogie to Bon Echo, these are 6 destinations that I highly suggest visiting if you have the chance :)

Temiskaming Agri tourism

In the heart of Northeastern Ontario lies an area of beautiful and fertile agricultural land named the little claybelt. stretching over 45 minutes from the City of Temiskaming Shores north past the Town of Englehart. This agricultural oasis in the midst of the boreal forest is home to the best clay land in Northern Ontario. North of this area is the great claybelt which will become tens of thousands of new agricultural development lands across Northeastern Ontario as climate improves and the need permits.

Lake Temiskaming - A Hidden Powerboating Haven

The great lakes and major waterways of Ontario are known to be some of the finest freshwater cruising grounds in the world, and consequently are generally quite busy. But there is a lesser known lake sharing a border with Quebec and Ontario that offers something completely different without sacrificing key amenities like great marinas, full service accommodations and top-notch restaurants along the way.
