Himeji, located west of Osaka, is known for the captivating Mount Shosha, the majestic Himeji Castle and the charming Koko-en Garden.
There are numerous ways to get to Himeji from Osaka, and one efficient option is to take the JR train from Osaka-Umeda Station.
At Osaka-Umeda Station, proceed to the JR Kobe Line platform, and take the Special Rapid Service train. The train ride will take about an hour.

The top floor of the 6-story main keep offers views over the extensive castle grounds. The Nishi-no-Maru section of the complex contains royal residential quarters. Next, to the castle, Kōko-en is a traditional Edo-style garden.

Himeji Castle - UNESCO World Heritage Site
Himeji Castle is an incredibly beautiful UNESCO World Heritage site in Japan. Located in the city of Himeji, the castle was originally founded in 1333, but during the 17th century was transformed into the iconic fortress that we know and love today. Built mostly of wood and plaster, everything about the castle from its layout to its grounds to the internal structure was designed to withstand a siege. And although it was never tested in medieval ground combat, it survived a pair of direct bomb hits during World War 2, the massive 1995 Kobe earthquake, and even being sold off for scrap in the 19th century. Today, it stands as Japan's largest and best-known castle; let's have a look!

Himeji Castle - Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan - UNESCO World Heritage Sites
Himeji Castle is a hilltop Japanese castle complex located in Himeji, in Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan. The castle is regarded as the finest surviving example of prototypical Japanese castle architecture, comprising a network of 83 buildings with advanced defensive systems from the feudal period. The castle is frequently known as Hakuro-jō (White Egret Castle) or Shirasagi-jō (White Heron Castle) because of its brilliant white exterior and supposed resemblance to a bird taking flight.
Himeji Castle dates to 1333, when Akamatsu Norimura built a fort on top of Himeyama hill. The fort was dismantled and rebuilt as Himeyama Castle in 1346, and then remodeled into Himeji Castle two centuries later. Himeji Castle was then significantly remodeled in 1581 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who added a three-story castle keep. In 1600, Tokugawa Ieyasu awarded the castle to Ikeda Terumasa for his help in the Battle of Sekigahara, and Ikeda completely rebuilt the castle from 1601 to 1609, expanding it into a large castle complex. Several buildings were later added to the castle complex by Honda Tadamasa from 1617 to 1618. For over 400 years, Himeji Castle has remained intact, even throughout the extensive bombing of Himeji in World War II, and natural disasters such as the 1995 Great Hanshin earthquake.
Himeji Castle is the largest and most visited castle in Japan, and it was registered in 1993 as one of the first UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the country. The area within the middle moat of the castle complex is a designated Special Historic Site and five structures of the castle are also designated National Treasures. Along with Matsumoto Castle and Kumamoto Castle, Himeji Castle is considered one of Japan's three premier castles. In order to preserve the castle buildings, it is currently undergoing restoration work that is expected to continue for several years. ( Wikipedia )

Trivia: Cherry blossoms in Kyoto were great but ones in Himeji looked even greater to me. I came here a lot when I was a kid and I thought I knew it but I guess I forgot about it. I was blown away to see so many cherry blossoms in full bloom! There is something wonderful in your hometown but you can't appreciate it until you live far away.

今回の動画は須濱神社［Suhama Shrine]です。
林田町上構の山麓に西池(鴨池)がある。
林田第一の大きな西池は、毎年付近集落干害を蒙るため元和3年(1617)林田藩祖・建部政長が築造したもので上構、中構、下構、久保の四集落の用水にあてられ、天水の蓄水だけに依存しないで約4km北の六九谷字洪水まで溝を掘り、林田川の水を引いている。
この西池を築造の際、池中に須浜形の小島を築き市杵島姫神を祀った。永世、関係集落において、須濱神社として尊崇。
現社殿は昭和59年(1984)に再建されたものである。
池の東南部にある「林田西池之碑」に藩主政長の武功や池の築造由来、三代藩主政宇が西御殿(発興亭)を作った事績などが記されている。
文と筆跡は敬業館教授、石野鄰卿のもので文化13年(1816)に建立されたものである。
また、池の南には、藤井市右衛門の碑(藩命にそむいてまで付近四ケ村の水を確保)もある。
八代藩主政醇のころ、この池に鴨を飼育し領主居宅(発興亭)より観賞したらしく、いつの程か、鴨池と呼ぶようになった。
今も毎年10月より翌年3月まで数百の鴨が来遊し一大偉観を呈している。
