I took a trip down to the new Cherokee Nation Hospital in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to get my eye exam and a pair of glasses. Scenic Highway 10 is always an enjoyable drive. Cherokee Nation is especially beautiful in the Summer and Fall.

The Illinois River is a 145-mile-long tributary of the Arkansas River in the U.S. states of Arkansas and Oklahoma. Recreational opportunities abound in this picturesque landscape, especially along the portion of the river that flows parallel to SH-10 northeast of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. A float trip is the most popular way to experience the Illinois River.

Exploring Sparrowhawk Primitive Area, near Tahlequah, Oklahoma!
Included in this video is some information about the Sparrowhawk Primitive Area, and some footage of what to expect if you should hike here. You need an Oklahoma hunting license, fishing license, or wildlife passport to enter the trail. Overnight camping is not permitted. Both dogs and horses are allowed on the trails. Sparrowhawk is located near Tahlequah, Oklahoma and overlooks the Illinois River. It has some of the best views in northeast Oklahoma.
The first half mile from the parking lot is a pleasant walk in the woods type of hike, then you hit the bluff line and follow the trails along the bluffs to the different lookout points.
Dad Disclaimer: Please be careful when visiting here. It gets very steep going down to the bluffs, and the skinny trails are covered in leaves and pine needles, so be sure you have good footing when walking.
