Colmar Christmas Market is a traditional Alsatian Christmas market in Colmar, Haut-Rhin, Alsace. It takes place every year and begins on the first weekend of Advent and ends on December 30 or 31. Its significant success is largely due to its picturesque, typical and preserved medieval Alsatian setting, a hotspot for international Alsatian tourism.

History :
Colmar perpetuates the Alsatian tradition of the Christkindelsmärik founded in 1570 in Strasbourg1 (Germanic Christian Christmas market of Saint-Nicolas, traditional of Alsatian and German cultures, or market of the Child Jesus in Alsatian).

Christmas traditions, celebrated in Alsace from Advent to Epiphany, take on a special dimension in Colmar...

The magic of Christmas in Colmar is first and foremost the atmosphere of the Old Town, illuminated and decorated like a fairy tale: a historic setting made magical by the Christmas lights which, during this festive period, blend harmoniously with the exceptional lighting designed to enhance the heritage, and which adorns the center of Colmar with a soft aura of light.

The city center, essentially pedestrian, conceals innumerable architectural treasures among which monuments, churches, museums and even the alleys, built, for the most imposing, from the Middle Ages to the 19th century. Above all, be sure to marvel at the Pfister house, the Koïfhus, the Unterlinden museum, Little Venice, the Maison des Têtes or the Saint-Martin Collegiate Church.

The whole city is decorated as if in a dream, to make the old center a magical place sheltering the warm atmosphere of Christmas in the heart of the city.

Every year, Colmarians play a leading role by taking part in a joyful decoration competition which sees them compete in imagination to adorn the facades of houses and shop windows.

I wish you all the best to you and your families, a Merry Christmas with your loved ones, a better new year than the one that passed and may everything you wish come true, be blessed, Merry Christmas!!! TOURIST CHANNEL.

The atmosphere that reigns in the city is unique. The streets are adorned with their finest finery, the windows sparkle, the smells of cinnamon and spices evoke childhood memories, Christmas carols resound in the depths of the churches. The whole city is transformed into an enchanting setting

Christmas, like nowhere else...
For more than a month, Strasbourg is enveloped in a festive and spiritual spirit that has hardly any equivalent in Europe.

Strasbourg, capital of Christmas enjoys an exceptional reputation. Each year, nearly two million visitors flock to the Alsatian capital to discover its wonders.

The Strasbourg Christmas Market extends over more than ten sites, all located within the Big Island.

During the four weeks of the Strasbourg Christmas market, as soon as night falls, the city is adorned with sublime illuminations that give it a magical dimension. The big fir tree, place Kléber, is the most beautiful expression of this. Thirty meters high, wonderfully decorated, it impresses with its presence, its majesty. Symbol of an Alsatian tradition dating back five centuries, it is the ambassador of a city bathed in light.

The Christkindelsmärik, or market of the child Jesus, is the name given in the Alsatian language to the traditional Christmas market which has been held since 1570 in Strasbourg, Alsace, and was for a long time the only one in France. It begins on the first Saturday of Advent and ends on the evening of December 24. The Christkindelsmärik attracts two million visitors from all over the world every year.

The origins :

Christmas Eve in Alsace - Christkindel and Hans Trapp coming to ask if the children have been good. (Theophile Schuler 1858)
The Christkindelsmärik in Strasbourg is one of the oldest Christmas markets, which were specific to the Germanic world. The most famous was that of Nuremberg, but those of Frankfurt, Dresden and Berlin were also very famous. In the Middle Ages, a market was organized in Strasbourg in anticipation of the feast of Saint Nicolas on December 6. It is indeed to this saint, bishop of Myra in Turkey in the 4th century, that the role of giver of gifts to children was attributed. To allow parents to obtain sweets and toys, a market, called in Alsatian “Klausemärik”, was then set up a few days before this date.

Best Places in Alsace

Alsace is located in the east of France, right on the German border between the Vosges mountains and the Upper Rhine. With an area of approx. 8280 km², it is the smallest region in France. The administrative center is Strasbourg. Over the course of history, this region has changed its political classification several times. The official language is French, but many inhabitants still understand and speak German. Besides Strasbourg, well-known towns and municipalities include Colmar, Riquewihr, Haguenau and Ribeauville. Alsace stands for beautiful half-timbered houses, wine-growing villages, vineyards, rich art treasures - especially in Strasbourg and Colmar - and not least for culinary delicacies such as tarte flambée and Gugelhupf. And not forgetting the dry white wines, such as Edelzwicker. #alsace #france #bestplaces

Turckheim, France, 4k, Walking Tour, One Of The Most Wonderful Village In France,

Turckheim on google maps:
is a commune in the Haut-Rhin department in Grand Est in north-eastern France. It lies west of Colmar, on the eastern slopes of the Vosges mountains.
Archeological finds indicate the area was already inhabited during Ancient Rome. When the Germanic tribes invaded and crossed the Rhine, the Thuringii settled here and possibly gave their name to the town, which was first Thorencohaime and then Thuringheim. During the High Middle Ages Thuringheim is listed as belonging partly to the abbey of Munster and partly to the manor of Haut-Landsberg, centered in Kientzheim.

Turckheim became a free imperial city in 1312, and in 1315, the construction of ramparts was begun, which are still in good condition. It already had city rights and market rights in 1354, and from 1354 to 1679, Turckheim was part of the Décapole, a league of ten free imperial cities of the Holy Roman Empire. After the Peace of Westphalia (1648), Turckheim and the other Alsatian towns refused to swear allegiance to the French king

During the Franco-Dutch War, the village of Turckheim was taken by French armies, led by Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne, Viscount of Turenne, which subsequently defeated armies of Austria and Brandenburg in what became known as the Battle of Turckheim (1675). Features of the village of Turckheim, especially the gates, help to identify the town in a fan currently in the Fan Museum in Greenwich, England. In 1678, with the signing of the Treaties of Nijmegen, the French king assumed control over Turckheim

In 1871, at the end of the Franco-Prussian War, the town, with the rest of the Alsace, became part of the German Empire. In 1918, it reverted to France.

Turckheim is one of only a few remaining towns in France with a municipal night watchman, who makes the rounds at 10 p.m. between 1 May and 31 October and on the three Saturdays preceding Christmas. Maintained for tourist reasons, the position commemorates the 13th-century night watchman who prevented a fire.

FAIRYTALE VILLAGES: Cycling ???? to Eguisheim & Turckheim in France!

We rent ebikes and leave from Colmar to cycle the Alsace region of France, cycling to the villages of Eguisheim and Turckheim. It's a short 20-25 minute bike ride south to Eguisheim, which absolutely a fairy tale village! Cute as cute can be, this town is incredibly photogenic - and captured in this France vlog! It's hard to believe this fairy tale village is not made by Disney, but it is indeed real.

After a quick lunch, we hop back on the bikes and head to Turckheim. It's a pretty easy 25 minute bike ride. Set near a river in the Alsace region, Turckheim is less touristed than Eguisheim but still cute and quaint. To escape the heat, we do a round of wine tasting and spoiler - it's all delicious. Turckheim feels a lot less touristy, and our visit is made complete by a wedding party walking through the village right after their ceremony.

It's easy to recommend visiting both of these villages! They were even better in person than we anticipated. Ebikes we're a great way to tour the countryside and bicycling in this area was really easy.

Turkheim, Alsace

Hiking France's Alsace, Turckheim's Dragon and St Anne Trails (Oct 3, 2022)

After a two-year delay due to COVID, we made it to France for two weeks. Our original plan was to bicycle in the Loire River area, but a broken collarbone made us cancel the bicycling. Instead, we changed to the northeast part of France, the Alsace and Burgundy regions. This area had been on our radar for many reasons and it did not disappoint.

While staying in Colmar, highly recommended, we had planned to do two hikes in the foothills and vineyards to the west of town. Rain one of the days only allowed us one day of hiking and we took the train out to Turckheim to walk two of the trails that start in the town, the Dragon and St Anne trails. What a great day, we would highly recommend Turckheim and the walks. You can freely walk through the vineyards which allows you to add and adapt a walk as you desire for length.

Colmar is cute! Is Chateau du Haut-Koenigsbourg worth it?? [France vlog]

This week, we delight in amazing Alsatian wines through a white wine tasting, explore the enchanting city of Colmar, France (where we're staying), and visit Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg. Colmar is beautiful! We disagree about whether Haut-Koenigsbourg is worth it!

Colmar is on the Alsace Wine Route, and the wines we try are varied and interesting! All clearly different from one another - a Moscato, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Blanc, and Riseling. Colmar city itself has an intriguing history! We did our wine tasting at Domaine Martin JUND.

As a border town between France and Germany, control of the region changed hands many times. The influence of both cultures is self-evident in everything from place names to the food and especially the architecture! Colmar is the French city that looks German.

Finally we visit the hilltop Château du Haut-Kœnigsbourg. It takes some effort to get there by public transport. The foundations of this Chateau date back to the 12th century, and the interior was carefully restored in the early 1900s. Is the Chateau worth it? Watch to find out!

THANKS FOR WATCHING!!

Colmar Tropicale Berjaya Hills
Exploring French Village in Malaysia

Colmar Tropicale is a French-themed village and hotel located in Berjaya Hills Resort, Bukit Tinggi, Pahang, Malaysia. It is located 2,600 feet (790 m) above sea level on 80 acres of natural forestland. The development is inspired by the original town of Colmar in Alsace, France, with elements taken from ancient surrounding villages like Riquewihr, Turckheim and Kaysersberg as well.
Colmar Tropicale has many activities to do in the village, and it has a unique style. The little French buildings and houses are actually clusters of hotel rooms. Outside, there is the village, and a buffet, other French food restaurants, a swimming pool, shops and other activities. Cycling Through Alsace's Vineyards: A Scenic Adventure

One of our fave bike routes in France, the 170km-long Alsatian Vineyard Route might just be a bit more achievable, starting in Strasbourg and ending just south of Colmar. It's the perfect chance to cycle through the diverse French region, passing through sleepy villages, peaceful countryside, and countless wineries. With influences from Germany and France, Alsace has an interesting mix of cultures. The most notable aspect is the cuisine, which has Germanic traditions and dishes that are variations of pork, paired with beers and of course, Riesling.

This French cycling route is bordered by green vineyards on both sides, and the towns are characterized by their colorful half-timbered design. Any passionate cyclist will love winding around the long-sweeping curves on smooth roads. On our Route du Vin tour in Alsace, castles dot the hillsides, and quaint stops like the medieval town of Bergheim and the colorful Kaysersberg make for pleasant detours on your daily route through this region of France by bike.

Day 1: Arrival in Strasbourg
Get yourself to Strasbourg and check into your hotel, then go explore the super pretty city center with its dope border town history. Stroll down the narrow cobbled streets and snap a pic of the cute half-timbered houses, painted stone gates, and secluded courtyards.

Day 2: Strasbourg to Obernai (37 km)
Cycle out of Strasbourg on a sweet well-marked bike path and roll past fairytale-like villages, fancy castles, and huge vineyards on the 'Route du Vin'. After, refill your energy tanks with some delicious Alsatian cuisine in charming Obernai.

Challenge: 37 km, 230 m ascent, 180 m descent

Day 3: Obernai to Riquewihr (49 km)
Hit the route to Riquewihr, a medieval town right in the heart of Alsatian wine country. This amazing wine-making village is definitely on the list of 'Les Plus Beaux Villages de France' (the most beautiful villages in France) and is nicknamed 'The Pearl of Alsace' because of its fancy rainbow-colored architecture and world-famous wines.

Challenge: 49 km, 790 m ascent, 660 m descent

Day 4: Riquewihr to Colmar (35 km)
Check out the wicked fortified town of Turckheim with its impressive walls and intricate half-timbered façades that are so typical of Alsace. If you're feeling extra energetic, make your route more challenging and ride an extra loop past FIVE medieval castles! Cruise through scenic wine villages like Kaysersberg and end your day on the flower-filled streets of brightly-colored Colmar.
