Places to see in ( Dereham - UK )

Places to see in ( Dereham - UK )

Dereham, also known as East Dereham, is a town and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It is situated on the A47 road, about 15 miles west of the city of Norwich and 25 miles east of King's Lynn.

For the purposes of local government, Dereham falls within, and is the centre of administration for, the district of Breckland. The town Dereham should not be confused with the Norfolk village of West Dereham, which lies about 25 miles (40 km) away.

The railway arrived in Dereham when a single track line to Wymondham opened in 1847. In 1848 a second line, to King's Lynn was opened. In 1849 a line from Dereham to Fakenham was opened, this line being extended to the coastal town of Wells-On-Sea by 1857. In 1862 the town's railways became part of the Great Eastern Railway. The town had its own railway depot and a large complex of sidings, serving local industry. In 1882 the line between Dereham and Wymondham was doubled, to allow for the increasing levels of traffic.

The railway between Dereham and Wymondham has been preserved, and is now operated as a tourist line by the Mid-Norfolk Railway Preservation Trust. This charitable company also owns the line north towards County School railway station, it has started to gradually reopen the line towards North Elmham and aims to eventually relay the line to Fakenham.

The town of Dereham lies on the site of a monastery founded by Saint Withburga in the seventh century. A holy well at the western end of St Nicholas' Church supposedly began to flow when her body was stolen from the town by monks from Ely, who took the remains back to their town. Notable buildings in the town include the pargetted Bishop Bonner's Cottage, built in 1502, the Norman parish church, a windmill which was extensively renovated in 2013 and a large mushroom-shaped water tower. The Gressenhall Museum of Rural Life is nearby. The town also hosts the headquarters of the Mid-Norfolk Railway, which runs trains over an 11.5-mile railway south to Wymondham, as well as owning the line 6 miles north to North Elmham and County School Station.

( Dereham - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Dereham . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Dereham - UK

LAVENHAM -The most beautiful village in the world | A walk round Lavenham Suffolk England

LAVENHAM -The most beautiful village in the world | A walk round Lavenham Suffolk England
The medieval village of Lavenham is surely one of the most beautiful villages in England
We wake a look around this stunning village that is trapped in time

Lavenham Suffolk is in the civil parish and electoral ward in the Babergh district, in the county of Suffolk, England. It is noted for its Guildhall, Little Hall, 15th-century church, half-timbered medieval cottages and circular walks. In the medieval period it was among the twenty wealthiest settlements in England.

Lavenham village has a wonderful yet chequered history with many stories

St Peter & St Paul Church
The spectacular large church was built at the height of Lavenham's prosperity by Thomas Spring III in the late 15th century.

HARRY POTTER FILMING LOCATION
Lavenham Guildhall was transformed into Harry Potter's parents' derelict house and in the film, Harry visits his parents' graves and their house in Godric's Hollow. Filming in Lavenham took place in secret in January 2010 and De Vere house in Water Street also appears in the film.

De Vere House
The last house in Lavenham to be owned by the Earls of Oxford, also known as the De Vere Hunting Lodge, was one of three properties within the centre of Lavenham, attached to Lavenham Hall.

Little Hall Lavenham
Little Hall, built in the 1390s, was once home to the Causton family. Since then the house has changed a lot from being divided up to house six different families in the 1700s to being restored and used as a museum today.

Art and galleries
Lavenham is host to an array of galleries. Take a look at the Crooked House Gallery, a building full of 'wonky' charm.

Lavenham in Suffolk is widely acknowledged as the best example of a medieval wool town in England.

In Tudor times, Lavenham was said to be the fourteenth wealthiest town in England, despite its small size. Its fine timber-framed buildings and beautiful church, built on the success of the wool trade, make it a fascinating place to explore today.

Most of the buildings in Lavenham today date from the 15th century, many of these were never altered due to the fall of the weaving industry. Consequently the town is still very much on the same scale as it must have been in the 15th century.

The late 15th-century timber-framed Guild Hall overlooks and dominates the town’s market place. The hall was built by the Guild of Corpus Christi, one of three guilds founded in Lavenham to regulate the wool trade.

As well as its many historic buildings, Lavenham is also blessed with good pubs, fine places to eat and fascinating antique shops to browse around.

Long Melford, with its many antique shops and associations with the TV series ‘Lovejoy’, is close by. The towns of Sudbury and Bury St. Edmunds are also within easy reach. A little further afield you will find Dedham and Flatford Mill in the heart of Constable country.

CITY SIGHTSEEING IN ENGLAND (Norfolk is pretty!)

When Leanne was busy working I took the opportunity to explore some of England. I went on a little road trip by myself to Norfolk and the city Norwich. In comparison a quiet small city, but still very nice. I also went out to the coast to visit Englands most easterly point.
