Places to see in ( Torpoint - UK )

Torpoint is a civil parish and town on the Rame Peninsula in southeast Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is situated opposite the city of Plymouth across the Hamoaze which is the tidal estuary of the River Tamar.

Torpoint is linked to Plymouth (and Devonport) by the Torpoint Ferry. The three vessels that operate the service are chain ferries – that is, they are propelled across the river by pulling themselves on fixed chains which lie across the bed of the river. The journey takes about seven minutes.

It is said that Torpoint's name is derived from Tar Point, a name given because of the initial industry on the west bank of the Hamoaze. However this is actually a nickname given by workers, Torpoint meaning rocky headland. Torpoint is an eighteenth-century planned town. The grid-based design for the town was commissioned by Reginald Pole Carew in the Parish of Antony in 1774. His family continue to have a strong influence in the area, having become the Carew Poles in the twentieth century, and still reside at their family seat, Antony House.

In 1796 Torpoint was the setting for a shooting battle between the crew of a government vessel, the Viper, and a large party of armed liquor smugglers, in which one person was killed and five people seriously wounded. Torpoint has a Non-League football club Torpoint Athletic F.C. who play at The Mill.

( Torpoint - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Torpoint . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Torpoint - UK

ECCLESFIELD: Sheffield Parish #1 of 3

Welcome to SHEFFIELD!

Open land near a Romano-British Christian church. That’s the meaning of this place, or at least one of them that’s believed anyway. An alternative suggestion is that the first element derives from a Saxon personal name or an association with water – and water is found in abundance here.

This parish is made up of five principal settlements including Chapeltown, High Green, Burncross and Grenoside and the small hamlet of Whitley. With some 32,073 people living here at the 2011 Census, this is South Yorkshire’s biggest in terms of population

The Minster of the Moors” is a title that could grace any church but here, that’s what this one was known as. It was once the church for the whole of Hallamshire, incorporating the parishes of Sheffield (which incidentally is now based at Sheffield Cathedral) and Bradfield.

You’ll find a priory here too along with several old buildings, some coal mining, ironworking and even sandstone workings in its past. This is the parish of Sheffield that gave us the Arctic Monkeys, and it’s also one steeped in railway history too. Way more than I could possibly fit into one episode of TVI, this one spans a huge area of the North Eastern corner of the City of Sheffield.

This is the stupendously large and very interesting parish of ECCLESFIELD.

Stockbridge

Stockbridge in Hampshire is a very popular town, and one of the smallest towns in the UK. This is a quick walk about to give you an idea of what the place is like if you haven't already visited. Parking is free! Subscribe for many more videos in the local area and beyond.

STOCKSBRIDGE: Sheffield Parish #2 of 3

In the steep-sided valley of the Little Don River, below the Underbank Reservoir, we find the second parish – a town – in the City of Sheffield. This one blends into the areas of Deepcar, Bolsterstone and the eastern end of Ewden valley around Ewden village, which are also within the civil parish boundaries.

There are several ghost stories attached to the town’s bypass here, including reputed apparitions of a monk and phantom children during the road's construction. These claims were featured in a 1994 episode of the paranormal documentary series “Strange but True?”

Until the early 18th century, this was a deciduously wooded valley, running from Midhopestones at its Northwestern extremity to Deepcar at its Southeastern end. A river, originally called the Hunshelf Water and later renamed the Little Don, is responsible for this town’s name.

In 1716 John Stocks, a local farmer and landowner, occupied a fulling mill halfway along the valley where a flood plain, created by meltwater at the end of the last ice age, extended southwest from the river. Here he reputedly built a footbridge over the river, perhaps so that his workforce could reach the mill from their homes on the north side.

This originally wooden structure was named Stocks' Bridge, which has kind of stuck around. A man named Samuel Fox and the steelworks he would own in this valley would do the rest. This is STOCKSBRIDGE.

SHEFFIELD STEEL CITY TOUR | OUR HOME TOWN!

We decided to share a little tour around our home town of Sheffield which sits in the South Yorkshire region of the UK. We visited the Millenium galleries, Butcher works, the Winter Gardens and the Peace Gardens before getting lunch at Oisoi.

Holmfirth to the M1 - 4K Scenic Drive - Hade Edge, Crow Edge, Langsett, Stocksbridge - DJI Pocket 2

Filmed in 4K. Enjoy a scenic drive from the charming town of Holmfirth, in West Yorkshire, up over the moors into South Yorkshire as we head towards the M1 motorway.

As we cross the River Holme bridge in Holmfirth, you can see the courtyard for Sid's Café ahead of us, a frequent filming location for the popular 1980s BBC sitcom Last of the Summer Wine.

Leaving Holmfirth we head through Hade Edge, before joining the Woodhead Pass route at Langsett and continuing on the Stocksbridge Bypass to reach the M1 motorway at junction 35a.

The driving was filmed on a beautifully sunny day in April 2022. There's no commentary, but occasional captions provide locations for the journey.

LANGSETT - SHEFFIELD, SOUTH YORKSHIRE | PEAK DISTRICT NATIONAL PARK | WALK IN THE MOUNTAINS

Greetings!

Today we walk around Langsett.
The beautiful Langsett reservoir near Sheffield gets visited by over 100,000 people per year.
The reservoir was constructed between 1898 and 1904, and is now managed by Yorkshire Water.

Walking routes weave through majestic woodlands, offer stunning vistas across the water and boast breathtaking views from a higher vantage point on Midhope Moors. Bird watchers may spot interesting species including treecreepers, owls and woodpeckers. Cyclists and horse riders are also welcome to enjoy the area following the bridleway network. Using clear paths the route includes sections of woodland before climbing up to a ruin known as North America. From here there are some superb views of the surrounding moorland which mostly lie within the boundaries of the Peak District National Park.

Do you know?
The large double doors of the 17th century Langsett Barn allowed fully-laden horse-drawn carts to gain access.
The valve tower at the dam replicates the gatehouse of Lancaster Castle.
The Tour de France cycle race passed through Langsett in 2014.

The Last Train to Stop at Sheffield Victoria Ever?

In this video, we capture what could possibly be the final train to ever stop at the former Sheffield Victoria Station and travel on the Deepcar Branch at the Sheffield end of the remaining famous Woodhead Line which use to travel from Sheffield Victoria to Manchester London Road 'Now known as Manchester Piccadilly'

Unfortunately due to freight ceasing on this line at Stocksbridge Steelworks, it has made the line redundant for months and with no future plans to run trains on this line 'as of writing this' and with a lack of route knowledge and overgrowing trees, it leaves the line with an uncertain future. Which makes this tour possibly the last train to ever run on this line!

The tour that would run on the former Woodhead Line for possibly the last time was 'The Last Chance?' running from

Finsbury Park - Doncaster - Barnetby - Grimsby Light Railway - Barnetby - Gainsborough Central - Worksop - Deepcar Branch - Worksop - South Yorkshire Joint Line - Doncaster - Finsbury Park

Operated by Class 60 60015 & Class 66 66004 in 'I am a climate hero' green livery

Finsbury Park to Doncaster & back would be hauled by a Class 90.

We see the tour crossing over Wicker Archers at the former Sheffield Victoria Station where the crew of the Class 60 stop to take photos for what could be the last ever train to stop at the famous disused station, this being the first time in over 10 years that this famous shot has been achievable with the place being overgrown with trees but sadly could be the only time with the lines uncertain future.

We then travel further where we capture the Class 66 heading back towards Sheffield at Parkwood Springs as it gives tones on what could be the final time the line ever sees a train!

There are thankfully campaigns to use the line for a regular half hour shuttle train from Sheffield to Stocksbridge by the 'Don Valley Railway', fingers crossed these campaigns can be successful as it really would benefit Sheffield & the surrounding communities.

Sheffield Walk: City Centre【4K】

Located in the county of South Yorkshire, and around 160 miles north, and slightly west, of London, is the city of Sheffield. Historically it was part of the West Riding of Yorkshire up until 1974.

The name 'Sheffield' is derived from the River Sheaf. It is believed that the Anglo-Saxons formed a settlement around a field or forest clearing at the confluence of the River Sheaf and River Don.

After the Norman Conquest of 1066, Sheffield was a part of the historical county of Hallamshire, which was owned by Norman barons. In the 12th century, a wooden castle was built, which was later replaced by a stone castle in 1270. This was eventually destroyed following the Civil War in the 17th century.

In 1296 Sheffield was granted a market charter by Edward I. One year later, 'Robert the Cutler' was recorded in a tax return. This is significant as it is the earliest surviving reference to the manufacture of cutlery in Sheffield. A further reference appeared in 1387 from the Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer from The Reeve's Tale: A Sheffeld thwitel baar he in his hose ('thwitel' referring to a type of knife).

The steel industry, including cutlery manufacture, would go on to play a huge role in the growth of Sheffield. By 1600 it had become the biggest producer of cutlery outside of London. In 1624 the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire was incorporated. Since 1638 they have been based at Cutlers' Hall opposite Sheffield Cathedral on Church Street (although the current building dates from 1832). Their aim has been to maintain the standards and quality of Sheffield manufactured cutlery and steel products and to promote the name of the city. This includes certifying products claiming to be made in Sheffield.

In the 1740s a clock maker named Benjamin Huntsman invented a way of making better quality steel called crucible steel. This involved the use of coke, derived from coal. Its higher carbon content allows temperatures hot enough to melt steel and dissolve iron. Around the same period, a technique was developed for fusing a thin sheet of silver onto a copper ingot to produce silver plating, which became known as Sheffield plate. These innovations brought about rapid growth in Sheffield during the Industrial Revolution.

In 1838 the Sheffield and Rotherham railway opened. This was the first of a number of rail connections that brought about more efficient transportation of goods to the neighbouring towns and beyond. In 1893 Sheffield was granted city status.

During both world wars, Sheffield became a producer of armaments using its existing factories. In doing so, it became a target for bombing on both occasions. In 1916 a German Zeppelin dropped bombs on Sheffield, killing 28. In 1940 the Sheffield Blitz claimed the lives of over 600 following a 4-day raid from by Luftwaffe.

In the second half of the 20th century, the steel industry went into gradual decline as a result of increased automation and competition from abroad. Thus there are a number of derelict factories dotted around the outskirts of the city. This formed the premise of the 1997 film, The Full Monty, which sees unemployed steel workers form a striptease group in order to relieve their financial burdens. The film was shot almost entirely on location in Sheffield.

In 1971 the Crucible Theatre built. It is perhaps best known for hosting the World Snooker Championship, which it has done since 1977.

In 1994 the Sheffield Supertram began operation. To this day it is an integral part of the city with regular services between Sheffield and surrounding areas including Rotherham.

Sheffield is represented by two football teams: Sheffield United, a.k.a. The Blades, and Sheffield Wednesday, a.k.a. The Owls.

Several famous musicians and bands have emerged from Sheffield over the years. These include Joe Cocker, The Human League, ABC, Heaven 17, Def Leppard, Pulp and the Arctic Monkeys.

Other famous people from Sheffield include Sean Bean, Jessica Ennis-Hill and Jamie Vardy.

Grey to Green Park, Castlegate, Sheffield - May 2022 | 4K

I found this amazing area on Castlegate in Sheffield. Its known as Grey to Green.
The Pollen market takes place here on the third Sunday of each month, see :

To the left of this area is where the former Moor market once stood.

Best viewed on a large computer screen or smart TV as this is recorded in 4K resolution with great music so a real waste watching it on a small phone screen. Did you know you can cast it to your smart tv from the YouTube app?

Information on my drone flying :
● My drone is a Class C0 drone sub-250g type, because its such a lightweight drone (236g), I'm allowed to fly it over residential and commercial property and people (but not crowds) without permission.
● I passed the theory test and have both valid flyer ID and Operator ID's.
● I have drone insurance (£5 million public liability insurance cover).
● I strictly follow all the CAA guidelines on flying my drone.
● I always fly in Cinematic mode (slow speed) as this is safer in urban environments.
● I plan all of my flights in advance of taking off to ensure I know my complete flight path and am aware of any obstacles in the way.
● In order to maintain VLOS (visual line of sight) with my drone I use extremely bright Strobe lights, if there are trees or buildings in my way then I have to land and carry on from a different location this means that I often have to join bits of flights together, I try and line up edits using telemetry to match altitude and position etc. but its not always possible to get good joins in clips so this can mean jump cuts and fades between clips.
● I carry out a risk assessment before each flight and ensure all batteries fully charged, GPS has a good fix etc.
● I always engage with anyone nearby informing them the reason for my flight.

Thanks
Andy
