Statesville is the 38th largest city in North Carolina with a little less than 28,000 residents. Statesville is also the county seat for Iredell County and is part of the Charlotte Metropolitan area. Statesville was established in 1789 by an act of the North Carolina Legislature.
It's not clear on how Statesville got it's name... Statesville was originally known as the Fourth Creek that was established as a site for the court house and stocks. It is thought that the original name was the states vil? Later spelled and said as Statesville.
After Statesville become the leading city in the State in the production of tobacco in 1858.
