Welcome to our channel.
This video is a cinematic walking tour of Speyer, shot and edited in 4k so that you have the best ultra HD visual experience in this virtual walk with me. Speyer City is one of the oldest city in Germany. Earliest mentioned record is around 10 BCE. Speyer is located 25 km south of Ludwigshafen and Mannheim and 21 km southwest of Heidelberg. It's surreal to imagine that we walked through the streets of a place that is more than 2000 years old.
To talk a bit about the history of this place Speyer was initially known by the names of Noviomagus and Civitas Nemetum, after the Teutonic tribe, Nemetes, settled in the area. The name Spira is first recorded in the 7th century, taken from villa Spira, a Frankish settlement situated outside of Civitas Nemetum. In 1990, Speyer city celebrated its 2000th anniversary.
The most attractive sights to see in Speyer are-
Cathedral which is officially called The Imperial Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption and St Stephen and generally referred by the people as Kaiserdom zu Speyer (Imperial cathedral of speyer). Today, it is the UNESCO heritage monument of Romanesque art in Germany.
Altpörtel – Old Town Gate which was built in the 11th century.
Gedächtniskirche – Memorial church
Dreifaltigkeitskirche – Trinity church
Jewish courtyard – you can see here the remnants of medieval synagogue and intact mikve, the Jewish ritual of immersion bath.
Historical Museum of the Palatinate- walk through the historical artifacts of palatinate era.
Technikmuseum Speyer – This is one of Europe's largest auto museums with an opportunity to see many vintage cars, stand on the wings of an aeroplane, go inside a submarine and even see internal parts of an actual prototype of the Buran space shuttle. It would be an enjoyable and exciting experience for you along with the little folks.

How do I reach Speyer?
Speyer is well connected through road as well as railway.
By road: you can drive. Speyer is located south of the Autobahn A61. Bus connections are also available.
By train: Speyer has two train stations - the Speyer main station, and the Speyer North-West station. Train connections to Germersheim and Karlsruhe (via Heidelberg) are available almost every 30 minutes and express trains to Karlsruhe and Mainz every 2 hours.

Technik Museum Speyer | 747 JUMBO Wing Walk & Visitor Guide
Technik Museum Speyer is one half of a fantastic technology museum in Germany. Technik Museum Speyer holds a large collection of aircraft, boats, trains, automobiles and Russian space craft. The show piece being the 747-230 that is displayed climbing out of the museum.

Come and join us (family of five) at the christmas market in Speyer, a historical town in Germany. We will take you on a walk throug the market and show you all the highlights and what you can do here.
We the explore with us family will show you our favorites here, give you some tips and review basically the entire market for you. It was great fun for the kids, we can definitely recommend to visit Speyer and it’s cosy christmas market. Our kids had lot of fun. They could do ice skating, go on children's carousel, eat roasted almonds, drink a tasty kinder punch and we as adults a classic Glühwein (an absolute must at Christmas time in Germany)
Speyer is a beautiful small town with a cosy historical centre. It stretched between the Alt Pörtel tower and the Speyer Dom (Cathedral of Speyer).
The Christmas market has plenty of stands with all sort of items. Scarfs, Candles, Light, Socks, Gloves, you name it… Then it has numerous stands with grilled steaks, sausages, hot soups and of course the absolute classic drink, the Glühwein. You get if with or without alcohol as white or red wine, as kinder punch, the children version and with different options to top it up with amaretto, rum, etc

Esther and I wondered the streets of Speyer, visiting the Speyer cathedral, Dreifaltigkeitskirche Speyer, and the gothic and ornate Gedaechtniskirche. We stopped along the Main Street as some shops and bakeries.

Speyer is a city in Rhineland-Palatinate in Germany with approximately 50,000 inhabitants. Located on the left bank of the river Rhine, Speyer lies 25 km south of Ludwigshafen and Mannheim, and 21 km south-west of Heidelberg. Founded by the Romans, it is one of Germany's oldest cities.

Walking in Speyer Germany 2022
Speyer / Germany is a city in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and part of the Rhine-Neckar region. Historically Speyer has Roman origins. In 10 BC Romans erected a military camp in what is now Speyer’s city centre, then called Noviomagus or Civitas Nemetum. Speyer is one of the oldest cities in Germany, just like Trier ( ). Around the year 600 it became the center of the Speyergau or Spira which which the current naming developed.
On this evening walk we start our walking tour at the 11th-century Romanesque Speyer Cathedral. This cathedral is one of the main tourist sight of the city. We walk along the central Maximilianstraße. From there we explore the city center in all directions and even get out of the center towards the Gedächtniskirche.
We return the the cathedral and end our tour where we started. Speyer also has some more attractions such as the Historical Museum of the Palatinate (Historisches Museum der Pfalz) SEA LIFE Speyer which is another 10' way and closed at the time of the walk.

Only 70 miles north of our home, we'd driven past Speyer a half dozen times and every time we say the sign, we thought we really need to visit. So, we finally put a mark on the calendar and did it. WOW! Speyer is amazing. We went up for the day, walked around the beatutiful old town of Speyer, checked out the Old Gate and had some lunch. After our delicious meal, we headed in to see one of the oldest remaining churches in Germany and Europe. Stunning and full of amazing history. Be sure to let us know what you think of our video!

The Speyer Cathedral is the seat of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Speyer and is suffragan to the Archdiocese of Bamberg. The cathedral, which is dedicated to St. Mary, patron saint of Speyer (Patrona Spirensis) and St. Stephen is generally known as Kaiserdom zu Speyer (Imperial Cathedral of Speyer). Pope Pius XI raised Speyer Cathedral to the rank of a minor basilica of the Roman Catholic Church in 1925.
Begun in 1030 under Konrad II, with the east end and high vault of 1090–1103, the imposing triple-aisled vaulted basilica of red sandstone is the culmination of a design which was extremely influential in the subsequent development of Romanesque architecture during the 11th and 12th centuries. As the burial site for Salian, Staufer and Habsburg emperors and kings the cathedral is regarded as a symbol of imperial power. With the Abbey of Cluny in ruins, it remains the largest Romanesque church. It is considered to be a turning point in European architecture, one of the most important architectural monuments of its time and one of the finest Romanesque monuments.
In 1981, the cathedral was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List of culturally important sites as a major monument of Romanesque art in the German Empire.

Begun in 1030 under Conrad II, the imposing triple-aisled vaulted basilica of red sandstone is the culmination of a design which was extremely influential in the subsequent development of Romanesque architecture during the 11th and 12th centuries.[2] As the burial site for Salian, Staufer and Habsburg emperors and kings the cathedral is regarded as a symbol of imperial power.[3][4] With the Abbey of Cluny in ruins, it remains the largest Romanesque church.[5] It is considered to be a turning point in European architecture,[6] one of the most important architectural monuments of its time[7] and one of the finest Romanesque monuments.[8][9][10]
