Amazing Offbeat Hillstation near Shimla Himachal Pradesh | SOLAN Tourist Places
Solan is best known as the 'mushroom city of India' because it is the largest producer of mushroom in the country and it houses the Directorate of Mushroom Research. The city gets its name from the Hindu Goddess Shoolini Devi, most revered in this area. This beautiful hill town is the gateway to neighboring hill towns like Shimla, Kasauli, Kalka and Chail. The town is also titled 'city of red gold' for it produces hordes of tomatoes in the region. The District is confined by the Shimla District in the North and by the Ropar District of Punjab and Ambala District of Haryana in the South, by Sirmaur District in the East and by Bilaspur District in the west. It is only Mandi District that tads the boundary of Solan District in the Northeast. Other best attractions of this area are Bon Monastery, The Dagshai Jail Museum, Shoolini Mata Temple and Sanawar Nature Camp. Panoramic mountains, gorgeous vistas and ancient architecture rest in the lap of Himachal Pradesh. The city of fine-looking landscapes and iconic landmarks must be visited for the love of solitude and a bustling town life. Solan is also famous for the Mohan Meakins Brewery that was set up in the year 1855, after the establishment of the cantonment here.
Jawahar Park:
The Jawahar Park is a little Park For Children In Solan.The stop is a basic and unwinding place where one could be at comfort. What draws in the children the most in this green and new inhaled stop are the little wellsprings, Rides they can appreciate, a little zoo, an infant prepare to investigate the entire territory of the garden. You can take an unwinding stroll along the trail or appreciate the view on the infant prepare.
The yards are luxuriously planted with vivid blooms and all around scored plants. Jatoli Shiv Temple is one of the famous holy destinations of Solan which attract a large number of pilgrims and is only 6 Kms from the city.
Multiple fables and stories are associated with the history of Jatoli Shiv Temple. It is one of the oldest temples of Lord Shiv where an ancient linga is the also placed since a long time. It is believed that the temple was once the resting place of Lord Shiva.
The temple is made in typical Southern-Dravidian style architecture and is made of three consecutive pyramids. On the first pyramid, one can see the image of Lord Ganesha while on second pyramid there is a sculpture of Shesh Naag. Jatoli Shiv Temple holds the tag of being the highest temple in Asia; it took 39 years to complete the construction of the temple.
On the northeast corner of the temple, there is a water tank called 'Jal Kund' which is considered as pious as the holy river Ganga. The water of this tank is said to have some medicinal qualities that can treat skin diseases. There is a cave inside the temple where Swami Krishnananda Paramhans Ji resided. This ancient temple is famous for its annual fair, which is conducted during the festival of Mahashivratri. A number of devotees gather in the temple to offer prayers.
Mata Shoolini Temple :
This Hindu temple is easily one of the most revered places to visit in Solan which is evident from the fact that the town derives its name from Shoolini Devi – the goddess this temple is dedicated to. For being the holiest shrine in the region, it is frequented by devotees in large numbers, and for also being an iconic site, it is quite popular among tourists as well.
For a memorable experience, visit during the month of June when an annual festival is held here.

Timing: 7 am to 6 pm
Mohan Shakti National Heritage Park :
Last but not the least, Mohan Shakti National Park is the most important spot in Solan from a tourism point of view. This park is claimed to be North India’s first ancient heritage park. The park features recreations of Indian villages. By visiting this park on your vacation, you can learn a lot about the cultural and natural heritage of the region.
The park has numerous attractions in the form of structures and sculptures. Moreover, the lush green atmosphere of the park also makes it a perfect spot for relaxation.
