10 Most Miserable Towns in the UK

What are the most miserable towns in the United Kingdom? Many of the towns in the United Kingdom are not doing too badly in terms of basic amenities. The quality of life in those towns is higher even than in places recognized as cities in other countries. Still, it can’t be said that all those towns are having it equally. Assessing the standard of living and quality of life in the UK as a whole, we can describe certain towns in the United Kingdom as miserable. Granted, those towns are not inherently terrible. Yet, the situation there is not acceptable in the light of what we see in other villages, towns, and cities, in the UK. In this video, we shall be discussing the 10 most miserable towns in the UK.
10. Cumbernauld, Scotland
We will start our discussion with a town in Scotland. To give you a hint; this is the first of the three Scottish towns on this list of the 10 most miserable towns in the UK. We are talking about Cumbernauld, a large town in North Lanarkshire with an area of 8.3 square miles or 21.5 square kilometers. Under normal circumstances, it should be a city because of its city-like huge population of 51,000.
It has not shed that horrible description as “Scotland’s most dismal town.” Truly speaking, this town is lacking in anything of the good things you would find in Glasgow or Edinburgh. The center of Cumbernauld has been described as the “Kabul of the North.” This says it all. Whatever you know about Kabul has its miniature in this miserable town.
9. Grimsby, England
The first of the 5 cities in England on this list is Grimsby. Maybe we should stop calling it Great Grimsby. If it were great indeed, this port town and the North East Lincolnshire administrative center on the south bank of the Humber Estuary would have all amenities that would make it rank among the best. But the comments from its residents and one-time visitors indicated that life is miserable in this place that has been voted several times as one of the worst places to live in England.
Therefore, the town of around 100,000 residents is one of the most miserable towns in the UK. Its entire area of 88 square miles (or 230 square kilometers) has been ranked the 18th worst place to live a while ago.
8. Airdrie, Scotland
Back in Scotland; we are now examining Airdrie, a town in North Lanarkshire. It also is one of the most miserable towns in the UK. The town on a plateau with an elevation of 400 feet or 130 meters above sea level is about 12 miles (or 19 kilometers) east of Glasgow city center. During its industrial heyday in the 19th century, coal mining and cotton milling were the major industries, no one could then think of this former industrial town as miserable.
However, the exit of those industries has made life there miserable to extent of being branded the most dismal town in the UK. The PR manager for the town admits it deserves its grim reputation as the worst in Scotland. The town is boring and the buildings are ugly.

SLEAFORD | Tour of Sleaford Town Centre [Filmed In 4K]

SLEAFORD, LINCOLNSHIRE - Tour of Sleaford Town Centre streets and landmarks.
We visit the market town of Sleaford ,11 miles north-east of Grantham, and 17 miles south of Lincoln. Also watch our tour of Lincoln ????????

Sleaford is a market town in the North Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, in the East Midlands, England. We take a look around the streets of the town, take in some Sleaford landmarks and see what's happening here.

Some of the brilliant buildings in Sleaford include William Alvey's baroque house on Northgate, the Manor House on Northgate and Sessions House on the Market Place.

Sleaford is famous for being a market town, St Denys' Church, the war memorial and the east side of the market place which is fab!

The singer Lois Wilkinson of the Caravelles was born in Sleaford. Glamour model Abi Titmuss grew up in Ruskington and was educated at Kesteven and Sleaford High School, and Bernie Taupin, Elton John's lyricist, was born in the town too. Eric Thompson who narrated The Magic Roundabout television series, was born in a house on Jermyn Street here.

Sadly Sleaford didn't quite squeeze into the list of best places to live in Lincolnshire. The top four voted for were Lincoln, Market Rasen, Skegness and Stamford. See my YouTube channel for vidoes on all those places!

Places to see in ( Tattershall - UK )

Places to see in ( Tattershall - UK )

Tattershall is a village and civil parish in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England. Tattershall is situated on the A153 Horncastle to Sleaford road, 1 mile east from the point where that road crosses the River Witham.

At its eastern end, Tattershall adjoins the village of Coningsby, with the two being separated by the River Bain. In the same parish is the hamlet of Tattershall Thorpe. Local public houses are the Black Horse on the High Street and the Fortescue Arms in the Market Place. The Fortesque Arms dates from the 15th century and is a Grade II listed building. Barnes Wallis Academy (built 1954) is a secondary modern school on Butts Lane for pupils aged from 11 to 16. The school also serves Coningsby and Woodhall Spa.

The remaining wreckage of the Boeing jumbo jet that was blown-up on 21 December 1988 over Lockerbie in Scotland is stored at a scrapyard near Tattershall. The remains include the plane's nose and cockpit. Tattershall Carrs forms the last remaining remnants of ancient wet woodland, dominated by alder that once ringed the margins of the Fens.

Village historic sites include the church of the Holy Trinity, a buttercross, Tattershall Castle, Collegiate College, and Tom Thumb's house and grave. Tattershall Castle was built in 1434 by Ralph de Cromwell, 3rd Baron Cromwell - Henry VI's Lord High Treasurer - on the site of an earlier 13th-century stone castle, of which some remains are extant, particularly the Grand Tower and moat.

An octagonal 15th-century buttercross stands in the Market Place. It is both a Grade I listed structure and an ancient scheduled monument. A charter to hold a weekly market was granted by King John in 1201 in return for an annual fee of a trained goshawk.

Tattershall railway station was a station on the line between Boston and Lincoln until closure. The Old Station House, a stationmasters house and ticket office, is a Grade II listed building. Adjacent to the castle is the Grade I listed Perpendicular-style Holy Trinity Collegiate Church, endowed by Ralph de Cromwell, 3rd Baron Cromwell, but built after his death.

Adjacent to the Market Place are the remains of Tattershall College which was built by Lord Cromwell for the education of the choristers of Holy Trinity Church. The College was an example of perpendicular style of Gothic architecture. In the late 18th century it was converted to a brewery, and later left empty – today it is a ruin. The walls that remain are supported by modern brick. Heritage Lincolnshire currently manages the site, which is Grade II* listed, and an ancient scheduled monument.

( Tattershall - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Tattershall . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Tattershall - UK

Sleaford Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Lincolnshire, and around 110 miles north of London, is the town of Sleaford.

Geographically Sleaford is situated in the North Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, along the River Slea from which it gets its name ('ford' is a Saxon suffix denoting a shallow river crossing).

In the 12th century Sleaford Castle was built under orders from the Bishop of Lincoln who owned the land at the time. Two kings are known to have stayed over at the castle, namely King John and Henry VIII. By the late 16th century the castle had fallen into disrepair.

One of the main landmarks of Sleaford is St Denys' Chuch. This dates from the late 12th century, with later additions. It is Grade I listed, and to this day stands at the heart of the town in Market Place.

Initially Sleaford consisted of two settlements - Old Sleaford and New Sleaford. From the 12th century onwards, New Sleaford, centred around St Denys' Church, developed into a market town with a significant wool trade, whereas Old Sleaford declined.

In 1794 the Sleaford Navigation opened. This was the canalisation of the River Slea, effectively connecting it to the River Witham which runs through much of Lincolnshire including Boston, Lincoln and Grantham. This brought about growth in Sleaford as goods were more easily transportable to the nearby towns. The waterway would eventually close in 1881 due to a gradual decline in trade. This decline was attributed to the arrival of the railway. Sleaford station opened in 1857. Currently it is situated on two lines: the Grantham-Skegness line, a.k.a. the Poacher Line, and the Peterborough-Lincoln line. These lines cross over at Sleaford station, which is a junction between the two.

Famous people from Sleaford include Bernie Taupin and Jennifer Saunders.

Places to see in ( Melton Mowbray - UK )

Melton Mowbray is a town in Leicestershire, England, 19 miles northeast of Leicester, and 20 miles southeast of Nottingham. The town of Melton Mowbray is on the River Eye and the River Wreake. Melton Mowbray is best known for its culinary speciality, the Melton Mowbray pork pie, and it is one of the six homes of Stilton cheese. Melton Mowbray is promoted as the Rural Capital of Food.

Melton Mowbray is home to Melton cloth (first mentioned in 1823), which is a tight-woven woollen cloth that is heavily milled, and a nap raised so as to form a short, dense, non-lustrous pile. Sailors' pea coats are traditionally made of Melton cloth, the universal workmans' donkey jackets of Britain and Ireland and in North America, loggers' cruising jackets and Mackinaws.

Stilton cheese originated near Melton Mowbray, and is still made in the town today. Stilton cheese takes its name from the village of Stilton in Huntingdonshire, where it was marketed to travellers on the Great North Road, though no Stilton was ever made there. Melton Mowbray pork pies are made with a specific hand-raising process and recipe. On 4 April 2008 the European Union awarded the Melton Mowbray pork pie Protected Geographical Indication status, following a long-standing application made by the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association.

Melton Carnegie Museum is based in Melton Mowbray. The museum has recently been refurbished and visitors can expect a hands on, audio visual family orientated experience showing the history and importance of the town. St Mary's Church, Melton Mowbray is a parish church in the Church of England located in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. By 2016, the church, described as one of the finest parish churches in Leicestershire had fallen into a poor state of repair and was deemed unfit for purpose leading to an appeal for £2m to restore it.

Melton railway station is on the line from Birmingham to Stansted Airport via Leicester, Peterborough and Cambridge. Trains run hourly in either direction. The service is supplemented with additional trains in the peak on route to/from Nottingham, Norwich and Sleaford. The station is managed by East Midlands Trains although most services are operated by CrossCountry. CrossCountry intend to enhance their service gradually to half-hourly on this route. Since early 2009 East Midlands Trains have offered a single daily journey from Melton Mowbray to London St Pancras and return. This is notable for being the first regular passenger service to cross the spectacular and historic Welland Viaduct since 1966. In 2010, the company introduced a single daily journey to Derby and return. The majority of bus services in Melton Mowbray are provided by Centrebus. Services link Melton Mowbray with Leicester, Nottingham, Oakham and other regional centres, as well as many of the surrounding villages.

( Melton Mowbray - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Melton Mowbray . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Melton Mowbray - UK

map of England

England is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. It shares land borders with Wales to its west and Scotland to its north. The Irish Sea lies northwest of England and the Celtic Sea to the southwest. England is separated from continental Europe by the North Sea to the east and the English Channel to the south. The country covers five-eighths of the island of Great Britain, which lies in the North Atlantic, and includes over 100 smaller islands, such as the Isles of Scilly and the Isle of Wight.

The area now called England was first inhabited by modern humans during the Upper Paleolithic period, but takes its name from the Angles, a Germanic tribe deriving its name from the Anglia peninsula, who settled during the 5th and 6th centuries. England became a unified state in the 10th century and has had a significant cultural and legal impact on the wider world since the Age of Discovery, which began during the 15th century. The English language, the Anglican Church, and English law—the basis for the common law legal systems of many other countries around the world—developed in England, and the country's parliamentary system of government has been widely adopted by other nations.[ The Industrial Revolution began in 18th-century England, transforming its society into the world's first industrialised nation.

England's terrain is chiefly low hills and plains, especially in central and southern England. However, there is upland and mountainous terrain in the north (for example, the Lake District and Pennines) and in the west (for example, Dartmoor and the Shropshire Hills). The capital is London, which has the largest metropolitan area in the United Kingdom. England's population of 56.3 million comprises 84% of the population of the United Kingdom, largely concentrated around London, the South East, and conurbations in the Midlands, the North West, the North East, and Yorkshire, which each developed as major industrial regions during the 19th century.

The Kingdom of England – which after 1535 included Wales – ceased being a separate sovereign state on 1 May 1707, when the Acts of Union put into effect the terms agreed in the Treaty of Union the previous year, resulting in a political union with the Kingdom of Scotland to create the Kingdom of Great Britain.] In 1801, Great Britain was united with the Kingdom of Ireland (through another Act of Union) to become the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. In 1922 the Irish Free State seceded from the United Kingdom, leading to the latter being renamed the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Geographically England includes the central and southern two-thirds of the island of Great Britain, plus such offshore islands as the Isle of Wight and the Isles of Scilly. It is bordered by two other countries of the United Kingdom: to the north by Scotland and to the west by Wales. England is closer than any other part of mainland Britain to the European continent. It is separated from France (Hauts-de-France) by a 21-mile (34 km) sea gap, though the two countries are connected by the Channel Tunnel near Folkestone. England also has shores on the Irish Sea, North Sea and Atlantic Ocean.

The ports of London, Liverpool, and Newcastle lie on the tidal rivers Thames, Mersey and Tyne respectively. At 220 miles (350 km), the Severn is the longest river flowing through England. It empties into the Bristol Channel and is notable for its Severn Bore (a tidal bore), which can reach 2 metres (6.6 ft) in height.[ However, the longest river entirely in England is the Thames, which is 215 miles (346 km) in length.

The Malvern Hills located in the English counties of Worcestershire and Herefordshire. The hills have been designated by the Countryside Agency as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
There are many lakes in England; the largest is Windermere, within the aptly named Lake District. Most of England's landscape consists of low hills and plains, with upland and mountainous terrain in the north and west of the country. The northern uplands include the Pennines, a chain of uplands dividing east and west, the Lake District mountains in Cumbria, and the Cheviot Hills, straddling the border between England and Scotland. The highest point in England, at 978 metres (3,209 ft), is Scafell Pike in the Lake District. The Shropshire Hills are near Wales while Dartmoor and Exmoor are two upland areas in the south-west of the country. The approximate dividing line between terrain types is often indicated by the Tees-Exe line. mapa de Inglaterra #england #englandmap

Hi there, I‘m Dave! I've lived in the English Countryside all my life, and I love it! I enjoy walking, and couldn’t help but notice just how beautiful the UK can be away from the cities. I found myself inspired and decided to get some camera equipment and make some walking videos so I can share my walks of the beautiful countryside with everyone!
I mainly focus on small towns, villages, picturesque landscapes, rolling hills and mountains, forests and canals, all along the coastlines in England, Scotland, Wales, and who knows maybe one day further afar!

I upload every 5 days at 9.30am GMT (1.30am PST) (4.30am EST) (3.30pm IST) (7.30pm ACST)

I use the free version of Davinci Resolve 16 to do some really basic editing. Mainly making sure the sky isn't over exposed. It's from Camera straight to YouTube. No cuts, no fancy business, no talking, just walking.
