In this video, in our travel vlog, we explore the country of Romania. We travel about 100 Km north of Bucharest to Slanic, located in Prahova county. The salt mine is closed for extraction purposes, but is open for visitors. Slanic salt mine is the second biggest salt mine in Europe.
To get to the mine, we get on a bus, which takes us almost 1000 feet underground. The bus ride takes about 10-15 minutes through tunnels buried deep under the surface.
The temperature in Slanic Prahova is a constant 13 degrees celsius or 55 degrees fahrenheit and 71 percent humidity. The air in Slanic Romania is rich in sodium ions with an atmospheric pressure of 18–20 mm Hg and the lack of any allergens, all create a microclimate which has remarkable therapeutic effects for respiratory diseases.
Mining in the Slanic salina was done between 1940 to 1970s. The Slanic salt mine is composed of 14 chambers, however, the most impressive one is Genesis Hall, which resembles a huge cathedral. The salt mine Slanic Prahova is 180 feet with an impressive trapezoid shape.
Since a lot of people visit the mine for the air's healing properties, many people stay here for hours, so they added a coffee shop and a bunch of cool activities for the little ones. They also have a planetarium inside the Salina Slanic Prahova, where you can watch a variety of 3D movies.

Subterranean Theme Park in Salt Mine
Salina Turda, is now a museum and tourist attraction located in the Transylvania region of Romania.
The site is a large underground wonderland with a brightly lit modern art theme park nestled 120 meters below the surface of the Earth inside one of the oldest salt mines ever known.
Salina Turda is today not only a museum of salt mining, but is also a subterranean Theme Park.

I went for a drive in the Moldova area with a Burstner camper van from GoCamper - rental company. On the way I met another couple with a camper van and we drove together to Slănic Moldova.
Camping was in the centre of the resort, in the car park next to the central park, where there are cameras and the cost is 10 lei/day.
We walked the mineral springs trail and saw the Casino building - an impressive monument!

Am ieșit la o tură în zona Moldovei cu un camper van Burstner de la firma de închirieri autorulote GoCamper. Pe drum m-am întâlnit cu încă un cuplu cu camper van și am mers împreună la Slănic Moldova.
Camparea a fost în centrul stațiunii, în parcarea de lîngă parcul central, unde sunt camere de luat vederi iar costul este de 10 lei/zi.
Am mers pe traseul izvoarelor minerale și am văzut clădirea Cazinoului - un monument impresionant!

Salina Turda is an underground amusement park located in Transylvania just outside the city of Cluj-Napoca. This is an abandoned Salt Mine that has been turned into an amusement park for everyone to enjoy and is definitely one of the most popular tourist attractions in Romania. The Salina Turda Salt mine came about as early as 1075 and was then operational till 1932. We took a day trip from leaving Cluj-Napoca by bus and arriving in the town of Turda. It was a bit of a journey to get there but what an amazing site deep underground. After the long journey there and back did we find public transportation to the mines worth our time? Slănic mine is an old salt mine,located in Slănic,Prahova County,Romania, just 100 km north of Bucharest. The salt mine is open for visitors,featuring a microclimate with natural air-conditioning and constant temperature and atmospheric pressure throughout the year. It is made up of two levels, named Unirea and Mihai. Many of the visitors come for its supposed healing effects due to the purity of the air. Throughout the mine you will find various types of equipment for recreational activity such as playground equipment and some ping-pong tables. One area is sectioned off and is used for medical patients with lung cancer to come and rest in.
The work for the opening of the Unirea salt mine started in 1938 and the exploitation of the salt from this mine was performed between 1943-1970.
The exploitation was done downward from the ceiling to the basis in successive slices of 2.2 meters with a horizontal cutting at the basis and vertically along the walls. The de-rocking was made through shooting. The transportation of the resulting material was effected with the tubs up the shaft using a cage to the installation of preparation and expedition.

The mine is composed of 14 chambers with trapezoidal profiles, having a 10 m opening to the ceiling and 32 m to the ground, a height of 54 m and a wall inclination angle of 60 degrees. The shore difference between the surface and the base of the mine is of 208 m . The excavated space occupies a volume of 2.9 million m³ and it is extended on a surface of 78,000 m².[citation needed]
After 1970, the mine becomes a touristic objective, offering exceptional natural conditions as a result of its microclimate rich in aerosols, which proved its well-known efficiency in treating the respiratory diseases. The air-conditioning of the mine is natural, with a constant temperature during the whole year of 12 °C, an atmospheric pressure of 730 mmHg and a humidity with an average of 10% lower than the surface average.
