Places to see in ( Holt - UK )

Places to see in ( Holt - UK )

Holt is a market town, civil parish and electoral ward in the English county of Norfolk. The town is 22.8 miles north of the city of Norwich, 9.5 miles west of Cromer and 35 miles east of King's Lynn. Holt is on the route of the A148 King's Lynn to Cromer road. The nearest railway station is in the town of Sheringham where access to the national rail network can be made via the Bittern Line to Norwich. Holt also has a railway station on the preserved North Norfolk Railway, the 'Poppy Line', of which it is the south-western terminus. The nearest airport is Norwich.

Holt Hall was owned by Henry Burcham-Rogers, who inherited it from his father John Rogers in 1906. Henry Burcham-Rogers kept the hall until his death in 1945. Holt Hall is currently a field studies centre run by Norfolk County Council. Byfords is thought to be the oldest house in Holt (the cellar dates back to the 15th century), a survivor of the great fire of Holt in 1708 and a further fire in the building in 1906.

Blind Sam is the name given locally to the Queen Victoria Jubilee Lantern located in Obelisk Plain. From the year of Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887 until 1921 it stood in the Market Place, where it had two functions, to provide light to the Market Place and to provide drinking water from two fountains at the bottom. The pineapple-topped obelisk at Holt is one of a pair gateposts from Melton Constable Park, the other having been given to the town of Dereham in 1757. Each gatepost had the distances to various places from Holt and Dereham respectively carved into the stone.

Holt Country Park is a short walk from the town. It has had a chequered history, including a horseracing course, heath, farmland, forestry and woodland garden. It has now been developed into a tranquil woodland dominated with Scots pine and native broadleaves. The Lowes is an area of heathland of around 120 acres (0.49 km2) to the south of Holt set aside by the Inclosure Act of 1807.

Holt railway station, opened in 1887, was served by the Midland and Great Northern Railway. Most of this network was closed by British Railways in 1959 but the short section from Melton Constable railway station via Holt to Sheringham (services continuing on to Cromer and Norwich) escaped closure for a few more years – finally succumbing in 1964 when the branch was cut back to Sheringham (now the nearest national rail-head, served by frequent services to Norwich along the 'Bittern Line').

Places to see in ( Cromer - UK )

Places to see in ( Cromer - UK )

Cromer is a coastal town and civil parish on the north coast of the English county of Norfolk. Cromer is approximately 23 miles north of the county town of Norwich and 4 miles east of Sheringham on the North Sea coastline. The local government authority is North Norfolk District Council, whose headquarters is in Holt Road in the town of Cromer .

The town of Cromer is notable as a traditional tourist resort and for the Cromer crab, which forms the major source of income for local fishermen. The motto Gem of the Norfolk Coast is highlighted on the town's road signs.

Traditionally Cromer was a fishing town. The town is famous for the Cromer crab, which forms the major source of income for the local fishermen. The town had grown up as a fishing station over the centuries and became a year-round fishery.

Cromer is a popular resort and acts as a touring base for the surrounding area. The coastal location means that beach holidays and fishing are important, with the beach and pier being major draws. Visitor attractions within the town include Cromer Pier and the Pavilion Theatre on the pier. Cromer Museum opened in 1978 and includes a geology gallery which includes the bones from the West Runton elephant. There are also modern displays featuring the work of pioneering Victorian photographer, Olive Edis - Britain's first official female war photographer. Close to the town's pier the RNLI Henry Blogg Museum is housed inside the early 21st century Rocket House. The museum has the Cromer Lifeboat H F Bailey III ON 777 as its centrepiece and illustrates the history of the town's lifeboats and lifeboatman Henry Blogg's most famous rescues.

Cromer Pier dominates the sea front and is 151 metres (495 ft) long. It features the Pavilion Theatre and dates from 1901. Cromer Lighthouse stands on the cliffs to the east of the town. The tower is 18 metres (59 ft) tall. and stands 81 metres (266 ft) above sea level. The light has a range of 21 nautical miles (24 mi). The Church of St Peter and St Paul dates from the 14th century and is in the centre of the town.

Cromer stands between stretches of coastal cliffs which, to the east, are up to 70 metres (230 ft) high. The Hotel de Paris was originally built in 1820 as a coastal residence for Lord Suffield. Cromer Hall is located to the south of the town in Hall Road. The original hall was destroyed by fire and was rebuilt in 1829 in a Gothic Revival style.

The railway came to Cromer in 1877 with the opening of Cromer High railway station by the Great Eastern Railway. Ten years later a second station, Cromer Beach, was opened by the Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway bringing visitors from the East Midlands. The second station, now known simply as Cromer, remains. Direct services were operated from London, Manchester, Leicester, Birmingham, Leeds, Peterborough and Sheffield, but today a service between Norwich and Sheringham on the Bittern Line is all that remains. The closed Cromer tunnel linked the Beach station with the Mundesley line to the east. It was the only railway tunnel to be built in Norfolk.

( Cromer - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Cromer . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Cromer - UK

SHERINGHAM | Full tour of Sheringham Seafront and Beach in North Norfolk [4K!]

SHERINGHAM | A walk along Sheringham Seafront in North Norfolk
A happy relaxing positive walk along the beach and seafront!
Also watch our full tour of Sheringham Norfolk ????

Sheringham is an English seaside town within the county of Norfolk, United Kingdom. We take a morning walk along the promenade and seafront to have a look at the beach, hear the sounds of the sea and enjoy this beautiful seaside resort.

Sheringham, on the Deep History Coast, is a traditional seaside town with an award winning family friendly beach, heritage steam North Norfolk railway, shops selling local produce, fantastic coastal and countryside walks, making Sheringham an excellent place to stay for a holiday in north Norfolk.

Sheringham is a traditional seaside town, which grew up around its old fishing village, and a few little boats still bring in the daily catch. There is the Sheringham Webcam if you want to see this seaside town live on Youtube!

Sheringham is the quintessential north Norfolk flinty seaside town; a high street haven of ice creams, crab sandwiches, postcards and holiday treasures. A great beach town to visit all year round.

The Vikings missed all this of course, but they came for other reasons no doubt. Another thing that came to Sheringham, at precisely 8.30pm on 19 January 1915, was an incendiary bomb, the first for Britain by a Zepplin in WWI.

There are many fascinating features around the town. So if you’re planning a visit to Sheringham, with ‘the sea on its doorstep and countryside in its backyard’ here are our top 5 things to do and see.

Far-reaching coastal views from anywhere along the seafront come complete with the magical sound and salt-tang smell of the sea. Climb up Beeston Bump (formed 10-15k years ago and still rising!) by walking through the town’s allotments (nice eggs) for a panoramic view and discover Norfolk is NOT flat! The rough meadow occupying its flanks lays out a glorious carpet of wildflowers, full of happy butterflies, in spring and summer. The Coastwatch hut at Skelding Hill, just past the West Prom boating lake, offers an appealing view all the way to Blakeney Point.

Purchase a platform pass and explore Sheringham’s Midland and Great Northern/North Norfolk Railway station, which is as much fun as a steam train ride to Holt itself!

Head to Platform 1 for buttered buffet buns, proper potted tea, classic wartime wireless and station souvenirs.

Over on Platform 3 is a wooden train carriage housing a hands-on children activity area.

The town's own Morris dancers are known as ‘The Lobster Potties’! The Mo, Sheringham’s Museum, has a collection of old lifeboats and is home to the Sheringham Shoal Offshore Windfarm visitor centre.

I hope you enjoyed this walk through Sheringham Norfolk. If so why not subscribe to my channel (it's free!) and enjoy the other Sheringham YouTube videos I have made ????
