Sheldon Lake State Park | A Visit To A Most Unique Texas State Park
In September of 2021 I had to spend some time in the Houston area while Trudy was being worked on. With two days to kill I decided to visit a very unique Texas State Park,
Sheldon Lake State Park. An on going wetlands restoration project on what was once a sod farm and a fish hatchery Sheldon Lake State Park provides an up-close look at the coastal wetlands ecosystem.
There are several different places where you can fish in Sheldon Lake State Park two of those are catch and release and two are catch and keep. The two catch and release are primarily geared towards children but can be great fun for adults too!
While be visiting Sheldon Lake State Park be on the look out for alligators! On My visit I had the pleasure of seeing a smaller one. There is a fantastic observation tower that gives you a great view of the whole park. At the time of my visit to Sheldon Lake State Park the elevator for the tower was out of order.

Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve - Ohio Hiking Trails
Sheldon Marsh State Nature Preserve is an amazing Ohio hiking trail right along Lake Erie in the Sandusky Bay region. 472 Acres to explore with a 1.5 mile paved main trail with wheelchair access. Step off the pavement onto a boardwalk to access the main beach walking area. This area changes regularly due to high water levels as do most nature preserves along The Great Lakes.

Sheldon Lake State Park is a great place to check out if you're looking for a smaller park. With over a mile of walking trails, there is still a lot to enjoy, especially the observation tower. Just remember to bring the bug spray!

Sheldon Lake State Park - Walk through and Trails
Join us as we walk through the trails of Sheldon Lake State Park. This park is inside Houston, TX and we didn't even know it existed! We happened to go on a pretty hot day, but some of the trails are well shaded. They have ponds for fishing, but the lily pads really made it hard to fish. Still, I think in cooler weather, could be a good spot for a kids first fish.
There is also a viewing tower. The place has a lot of birds and plenty for kids to see. It wasn't overly crowded while we were there, but it also wasn't deserted. We wore masks when close to folks, and most did the same. Literally being in Houston, this seems like a great place to let the kids get some exercise and enjoy nature. When the weather cools down, we'll definitely go here more.
