It is the second oldest city in North America after Quebec City. Trois-Rivières sits in the middle of Montreal (a little over an hour to the west) and Quebec City (about 2 hours to the east). On découvre Shawinigan et la cité de l'énergie, en direction du parc de la Mauricie (2017)
On est rendu à Shawinigan, au nord de Trois-Rivières. C’est ma première fois ici, et je vais me promener le plus possible et découvrir tout ce que je peux découvrir. On commence par la cité de l’énergie, un complexe muséal basé sur l’histoire industrielle locale. Avec sa tour d’observation, haute de 115 mètres!
Shawinigan est située au centre de la Mauricie, dans un crochet de la rivière Saint-Maurice. Elle est renommé pour ses chutes et le fort courant de la rivière, et l’emplacement géographique de la ville proposait un potentiel hydroélectrique important.
On continue notre route, et on se rapproche de l’entré du parc de la Mauricie. On longe la rivière Saint-Maurice, on s’arrête pour prendre des belles photos, des belles vidéos, et on va se rendre jusqu’à un camping pour y passer la nuit...
CHUTES DE SHAWINIGAN EN HIVER - SHAWINIGAN (QUÉBEC)
Chutes de Shawinigan en hiver - Shawinigan (Québec)

Les Chutes de Shawinigan sont situées sur la rivière Saint-Maurice dans le secteur sud du Parc de l'Île Melville, à quelques minutes du centre-ville de Shawinigan.
Il est possible d'y pratiquer plusieurs activités telles que la randonnée pédestre ou le vélo, la raquette et le ski de fond.
Il y a plusieurs zones de stationnement. En ce qui nous concerne, nous nous sommes dirigés vers le grand stationnement situé au bout du Chemin des Chutes.
Cependant, comme celui-ci est fermé durant la saison hivernale, nous avons dû stationner notre voiture sur un autre stationnement situé à proximité de celui-ci.
Le sentier de randonnée pédestre débute en face de ce stationnement. Nous nous sommes dirigés vers la droite afin de nous rendre à une plateforme d'observation qui offre une superbe vue panoramique sur les majestueuses Chutes de Shawinigan ainsi que sur le barrage hydroélectrique.
Nous avons remarqué qu'il y avait un sentier qui menait près de la rivière. Nous l'avons donc emprunté afin de nous rendre en bordure de la rivière afin d'admirer ses eaux qui se déversent en de multiples cascades.
Nous avons poursuivi notre randonnée dans ce sentier qui mène entre autres à un belvédère situé à proximité du dernier stationnement qui offre une vue différente, mais tout aussi belle, sur les chutes.
Nous sommes ensuite revenus sur nos pas (jusqu'à la plateforme d'observation) et avons poursuivi notre randonnée dans l'autre direction.
Nous nous sommes rendus ainsi jusqu'au haut des chutes. Nous nous en sommes approchés en empruntant un petit sentier beaucoup moins fréquenté afin d'avoir une superbe panoramique sur les chutes ainsi que sur la rivière.

These falls can only be admired in the spring when the water rises and the dam opens. With majestic force when in operation, these falls provide a breathtaking landscape. You can actually feel the vibration under your feet through the rocks and hear the water crashing and trying to go through all possible paths. It is a most magnificent sensory spectacle!
Shawinigan, Quebec: Downtown Driving Tour (May 17, 2018)
Shawinigan, Quebec is a city of 50,000 located on the Saint Maurice River about 41 kilometres north of Trois Rivieres via highway 55. Shawinigan was settled in 1851 and incorporated as the village of Shawinigan Falls in 1901. A year later, it was incorporated as a town and in 1958 achieved city status with the 'Falls' dropped from the name at that time.
Once a boom town, based around the hydro-electric and pulp and paper industries, the city is home to La Cite de L'Energie science centre/theme park. Located at the park is a 115 metre or 377 feet high observation tower that dominates the city's skyline.
Shawinigan is the birthplace of NHL hockey playing brothers Marcel, Andre, Claude and Jean Pronovost. It is also the birthplace of Jean Chretien, the 20th Prime Minister of Canada. Their hockey club, the Shawinigan Cataractes, is the only QMJHL franchise to remain in same location from when the league began operation for the 1969-70 season. The team hosted and won the Memorial Cup championship in 2012.
