Most head to this part of the US to pay a visit to one of the world’s most famous cities, but iconic metropolises aside this is a state that offers just so much more. If you stick to just the major urban areas then you’ll be missing out on glitzy island escapes, serene beauty spots, vast areas of pristine wilderness and thick forests, wonderful lakes, and towering mountains. In fact, New York State offers some of the most enticing scenery in the country and is a dream destination for lovers of the great outdoors.

Ithaca is the largest city in New York's Finger Lakes region. It is a beautiful, lively place to visit with a lot going for it. Set in a beautiful place at the southern tip of Cayuga Lake, it is known for being home to Cornell University and Ithaca College, both of which are in the Ivy League, as well as for the over 150 waterfalls and dozens of gorges that dot the area.

Exploring the Finger Lakes - Our top things to see
Our trip to Finger Lakes, in the New York State, was an amazing an unexpected experience of an area that truly deserves more popularity!
Our list of top things to do starts from chilling out in the small towns around the different lakes, from Itaka on the Cayuga lake (home of the Cornell university), passing trough the European Geneva on the Seneca Lake, till arriving to the beautiful Canandaigua.
A must thing to do in the area is for sure to hike the various gorge trails and be able to visit all the hundreds of waterfalls, that is how we spent most of our time in FInger Lakes. Our favorite hike, and for sure the most scenic, is Watgins Glen State Park (also the most crowded). We also tried Robert H. Treeman , Buttermilk, Taughannock Falls and Grimes Glen state parks. These are all extremely beautiful, unfortunately when we were there some of the waterfalls had dried up due to the scarse rainfalls.
One more must thing to do is to spent some time visiting a local winery and have a wine tasting. Also here our favorite is Dr. Konstantin Frank’s winery, with a scenic views of Keuka Lake. The Riesling and other white wines are a must try.
A special mention also to the 2 Splendid Bed and Breakfast that welcome us in this challenging period with COVID-19: Sutherland House Victorian B & B and The William Henry Miller Inn.

Exploring Waterloo and Seneca Falls on the Historic Canal!
Waterloo to Seneca Falls on the Cayuga-Seneca Canal Kayak Paddle. 1 hour trip in 10 minutes! Video taken on the Cayuga/Seneca Canal in Waterloo and Seneca Falls, New York. Paddle with informative captions! In this paddle, I start at the Cayuga/Seneca Canal lock #4 in Waterloo near Oak Island, Waterloo. From Waterloo, I paddle all the way to Seneca Falls. Along the way I pass Evans Chemetics, Silver Creek, and the bridge from It's a Wonderful Life on Bridge St. in Seneca Falls. The kayak paddle concludes at Trinity Church in Seneca Falls. The paddle took over 1 hour, but the video is 10 minutes.

Waterloo is a small town located in the Finger Lakes region of New York. It is known as the birthplace of Memorial Day, which is celebrated on the last Monday of May. The town was officially designated as the birthplace of Memorial Day by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1966. The town began the tradition in 1866, when a group of veterans organized a memorial to honor fallen soldiers from the Civil War. Since then, Memorial Day has become a national holiday and is celebrated throughout the United States. Waterloo also has several historic landmarks, including the Birthplace of Memorial Day Museum and the Waterloo Library and Historical Society.
Seneca Falls is a town located in the Finger Lakes region of New York. It is best known for being the site of the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848, which is considered the beginning of the women's rights movement in the United States. The convention was organized by women's rights activists, including Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott. It was attended by more than 300 people, both women and men, and resulted in the drafting of the Declaration of Sentiments, which called for women's rights to be recognized and protected under the law. There are so many things to do at Niagara Falls in New York, like taking a boat ride under the falls, night fireworks, or a trolley ride along the Niagara River. Let us be your travel guide as we explore the US side of the falls and show you these cool places. Just a note that while the American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls are on the US side and Horseshoe Falls are on the Canadian side, you can still see all of them.
This video is part of our epic road trip to all 5 US Great Lakes (Ontario, Erie, Huron, Superior & Michigan) where we visited Niagara Falls in New York, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Pictured Rocks and Apostle Islands National Lakeshores, Mackinac Island, the Porcupine Mountains (Porkies as they say in da UP), the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio, the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit, the Lakeshore bike trail in Chicago, Frankenmuth the year-round Christmas city - are you tired yet? Oh and we ate a lot of pasties and fudge. Like a lot of fudge. So much fudge that we actually take no offense to the Yoopers and Trolls calling us Fudgies. We've been called much worse. Seneca Falls, New York, is a Wonderful town filled with attractions for travelers and tourists. In this outdoor walking tour video, I walk across Seneca Fall's Bridges, and tour downtown Seneca Falls by foot. Did you know that Seneca Falls is thought to be the inspiration behind Bedford Falls setting in the movie It's a Wonderful Life?
Seneca Falls is a town located in upstate New York that is famous for its historical significance in the women's suffrage movement. The town was the site of the Seneca Falls Convention in 1848, which is considered the birthplace of the women's rights movement in America. At the convention, leaders such as Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott drafted a Declaration of Sentiments, which called for women's equality and the right to vote. The convention marked a turning point in the fight for women's rights, and Seneca Falls continues to be a destination for those interested in the history of the movement.

Each year, the It's a Wonderful Run 5k is held in Seneca Falls. It starts on Bridge St. at the bridge that helped inspire the setting for It's a Wonderful Life that George Baily jumped off of in the movie. The 5k run/walk goes around the town of Seneca Falls and concludes with a run down Fall St. which is similar to the road George Bailey ran down in the movie.
