There are three different words in German for “Carnival” or “Mardi Gras”: Karneval, Fasching and Fastnacht. Although all three refer to the same pre-Lenten observance, each has a different tradition and reflects somewhat different customs in different regions of the German-speaking world. Some Fastnacht celebrations in Switzerland even take place after Ash Wednesday.
The Fastnacht version of carnival has some unique characteristics and customs not found, or far less prominent in other regions. The use of elaborate carved wooden masks, devils, witches, animals and other “wild characters” (Wilde Leute) is common. One theory says that this a reflection of the pre-Christian roots of the Swabian-Alemannic carnival. In ancient times these figures and masks were part of an effort to drive out evil spirits in the dark of winter. Others say it developed out of early Christian religious practices and the church’s concept of good and evil.

Baden-Baden is a wealthy spa town at the edge of the Black Forest in Baden Württemberg. The town is located south west Germany, near the border with France - around 1 hour by car from Strasbourg.
Baden-Baden is famous for thermal bath and the Kurhaus complex (built in 1824) with the Spielbank (casino). That is the place where also Dostoevsky gambled during his 5 week stay which makes Baden-Baden a popular destination for Russian tourists.
On this walking tour of Baden-Baden we see the centre of the town, the spa area and some shopping streets. We also visit the main sights like the Spielbank and Trinkhalle and get an impression how Baden Baden looks like outside the main tourist season in fall.

Since it’s almost winter, the way to this city becomes so foggy. It was one-of-kind experience especially for daddy, who is a newbie driver and doesn’t have a lot of driving experiences. Jan. 24, 2023 was daddy’s birthday. We decided to visit Strasbourg. From Sasbach to Kehl train Station, it took us only 30 minutes. And from there, we just took tram which is only 20 minutes or less I think. We are very lucky to be situated near the border of France. The distnce between Strasbourg and Sasbach is around 37 km.
Strasbourg is the capital city of the Grand Est region, formerly Alsace, in northeastern France. It's also the formal seat of the European Parliament and sits near the German border, with culture and architecture blending German and French influences. Its Gothic Cathédrale Notre-Dame features daily shows from its astronomical clock and sweeping views of the Rhine River from partway up its 142m spire. ― Google

Bauernmarkt (Farmers‘ Market) offers a lot of exciting food and products originally made in Germany; sometimes there are stalls which said came from other regions/countries. People of all ages enjoy this day as they walk along the streets with interesting things to see and buy. Also, there’s a part where kids can play for free! Toy cars are well used by the children who are really fond of trying all of the stuff there. Another thing is the food and beverages which are loved by many (I think everyone loves German delicacy especially their sausage and bread.????) It was really fun and so enjoyable to roam around the place. And yeah before I forgot, it’s a bit pricey in a Farmer’s market.????????

Last Autumn, we visited Stuttgart. We tried the sightseeing tour bus of the hop-on hop-off city tour bus. We were not able to capture the whole or the complete tourist spots Stuttgart has to offer. Though we were able to include some of the famous and charming ones.
