Sapulpa, OK: A Walk Through History on Route 66
Sapulpa, OK was founded in 1871 by the Sapulpa Town Company, a group of investors from Kansas. The town was named after Chief Sapulpa, a Creek Indian who lived in the area. Sapulpa quickly grew into a major trading center for the Creek Nation. In 1893, the town was incorporated. In the early 1900s, Sapulpa became a major oil boomtown. The discovery of oil in the area led to a rapid influx of people and businesses. Sapulpa is a great place to learn about the history of Route 66. The city is home to a number of Route 66-related attractions, including the Sapulpa Historical Society Museum, the Will Rogers Memorial, and the Sapulpa Route 66 Museum.
