GERMANY: Black Forest, sights & scenery 4K

The Black Forest (German: Schwarzwald) is a large forested mountain range in south-west Germany, in the state of Baden-Württemberg, bounded by the Rhine valley to the west and south and close to the borders with France and Switzerland. It is the source of the Danube and Neckar rivers. Historically, the area was known for forestry and the mining of ore deposits, but tourism has now become the primary industry.

The Hexenloch Mill (German: Hexenlochmühle), formerly the Dreistegen Mill (Dreistegenmühle), lies in the ravine-like Hexenloch in the Black Forest in Germany between St. Märgen and Furtwangen in the parish of Furtwangen-Neukirch. It was built in 1825 and has been in the same family since 1839. It is the only mill in the Black Forest with two water wheels. The mill houses a restaurant with an outdoor terrace and shops that offer Black Forest specialties and souvenirs.

Stöcklewaldturm, a observation tower in Black Forest, was built in 1894 on the Stöcklewald hill (1068 m above sea level) near Furtwangen-Rohrbach. The viewing platform at a height of 25m offers a beautiful all-round view over the central Black Forest to the Feldberg, and on nice days to the Swiss Alps.

The Triberg Waterfalls are located near Triberg in Baden-Württemberg. With a descent of 163 m, it is one of the highest waterfalls in Germany and a landmark in the Black Forest region.

Sankt Georgen im Schwarzwald is a town in Southwestern Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is a popular destination for a holiday in the Black Forest.

Villingen (-Schwenningen) lies on the eastern edge of the Black Forest about 700 m (2,300 ft) above sea level. As part of the Baden-Württemberg territorial reform of 1972, Villingen and Schwenningen were merged with a number of surrounding villages to form the city of Villingen-Schwenningen. Nevertheless, the two halves of the city are separated by a plateau and remain distinct. Villingen is a former part of Baden, while Schwenningen is a former part of Württemberg.

The Brend observation tower (German: Brendturm) in Furtwangen was built in 1905 on the Brend hill (1149 m above sea level) near Furtwangen. The tower is round and made of granite blocks, and approximately 17 meter high.

St. Martin’s Chapel (German: Martinskapelle) stands at an elevation of 1,085 metres above sea level (NHN) at the upper end of the Katzensteig valley on the territory of Furtwangen just above the hydrological source of the river Danube.

The river Danube (German: Donau) is conventionally taken to be formed by the confluence of the two streams Brigach and Breg just east of Donaueschingen. The source of the Donaubach, which flows into the Danube, in Donaueschingen is often referred to as the source of the Danube (Donauquelle). Hydrologically, the source of the Danube is the source of the Breg as the larger of the two formative streams (with its spring at a higher altitude and - at the confluence - not only being 5 km longer but also having a higher amount of water discharge) which rises near Furtwangen.

CUCKOO CLOCKS

It is thought that much of its development and evolution was made in the Black Forest, the region where the cuckoo clock was popularized and from where it was exported to the rest of the world, becoming world-famous from the mid-1850s on.

The German Clock Road (German: Deutsche Uhrenstraße) or German Clock Route is a holiday route that runs from the Central Black Forest through the Southern Black Forest to the Baar region and thus links the centres of Black Forest clock manufacturing. It is about 320 kilometres long.

Hornberg (-Niederwasser): opened in 1977, the Hornberger Uhrenspiele (giant cuckoo clock) in 1995.

Schonach: FIRST world largest cuckoo clock, completed in 1980.

Triberg: new 'House of 1000 Clocks' opened in 1984, the Tribear giant clockwork in 2006.

Black Forest (Schwarzwald) in Southwest Germany

Schwarzwald, or in english The Black Forest is located in the southwest corner of Germany in the German federal-state of Baden-Württemberg. The Black Forest is a mountainous terrain at about 200-1500 meters above sea level, the highest point being the Feldberg at 1493 m.

This ancient forest is famous for its legends and the black fir trees that dot the landscape. While not particularly high, the mountains offer a wonderful place to go hiking or mountain biking with well-marked trails. Maps available from the tourist offices. There are a few skiing resorts as well offering average but crowded conditions.

The region is famous for its cuckoo clocks, watchmaking, skiing and tourism. There is a large high-tech light engineering industry in the region stemming from the gold-mining and watchmaking days. Almost all tourists are from Germany and Switzerland; the region's tourist industry is therefore not well equipped to deal with guests who don't speak German.

The most important destination in the Schwarzwald is called Titisee, which is a medium-sized lake with associated tourist village and hotels, with very nice views and generally very relaxed and healthy activities. From here it is a short journey to Lake Constance and the city of Konstanz, or to see the Rhein Waterfall at Neuhausen in Switzerland.

Accommodations in the main tourist areas may be cheaper than many of the quaint smaller towns and villages. For a nice hut at a reasonable price, look for a privately-operated Gasthaus, which can be found in villages throughout the area. There are many pleasant surprises waiting, often with excellent home-cooked food and special service, often provided by the family living there for many generations.

Wonderful Village in Southern Germany - Villingen-Schwenningen 4K Ultra HD Footage

Villingen-Schwenningen is a city located in Germany in the southwest of the Land of Baden-Württemberg. With around 81,000 inhabitants, the municipality is the largest in the Black Forest-Baar district.

The particularity of the city lies in the fact that it consists of two entities corresponding to two formerly independent towns, namely Villingen and Schwenningen. The two former municipalities merged in 1972 to become Villingen-Schwenningen. Another particularity is geographical: between the two old towns less than 5 kilometers apart, runs along a north-south axis the watershed between the North Sea (to the north) and the Black Sea (to the east).

Sint Georgen im Schwarzwald Germany

On Tuesday 22 August 2023, I was in Sint Georgen im Schwarzwald a place in the Black Forest in Germany.
As you will notice, the videos are a bit shorter, than you are used to from me, because in the hotel where I was, the wifi was quite weak, which made uploading large files difficult. I will post several videos in a day, though.
If you want to stay up to date with the latest videos on my channel, please like this video and subscribe to my channel.

St.Georgen im Schwarzwald is a city in the southern Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg. Its origin goes back to a Benedictine monastery. The city is after Villingen-Schwenningen, Donaueschingen and Bad Dürrheim the fourth largest municipality in the Black Forest-Baar district.

In the beginning of the Investiture dispute (1075–1122), the foundation of a Benedictine monastery on the “crown of Alemanniens” (vertex Alemanniae) in the Black Forest: The Sankt Georgen monastery, located at the source of the Brigach, was a result of the convergence of Swabian nobility and ecclesiastical Reform party, impressively represented by the monastery founders Hezelo and Hesso and the abbot and monastery reformer Wilhelm von Hirsau (1069-1091). Instead of the initially considered Upper Swabian Königseggwald, Wilhelm St. Georgen was chosen as the site of the founding of the monastery. With the settlement of St. Georgens by Hirsau monks in the spring and summer of 1084 and the consecration of the monastery chapel on June 24, 1085, the history of the Black Forest monastery began, which was the center of reform of the Benedictine era in Alsace, Lorraine, Swabia and Bavaria during the 12th century. In the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648) the monastery church and buildings were destroyed on October 13, 1633. The monastery in St. Georgen was not rebuilt after that, the Catholic monastic community remained limited to Villingen. The French invaded St. Georgen in the course of the War of the Spanish Succession in 1704, with some destruction and the church records being lost. Villingen finally became Württemberg in 1805 as part of the Napoleonic reorganization, and Baden one year later. Now the monastery suffered the fate of secularization. Monastic inventory came to Stuttgart, while the Badeners ordered the abolition of the monastic community and the takeover of the remaining monastic property (1806).

In 1810 the town of St. Georgen itself became Baden. In 1891 the place received city rights from the Grand Duke of Baden. The city has had its name in the Black Forest since October 22, 1962. In the course of the municipal area reform in Baden-Württemberg, the previously independent municipality of Brigach was incorporated on January 1, 1972. Langenschiltach was incorporated on July 1, 1973, and Oberkirnach on February 1, 1974. The two communities Peterzell and Stockburg were incorporated on April 1, 1974.

Lake Titisee, Black Forest - Must Visit Places in Germany

The Black Forest is one of the most beautiful regions in Germany. The most popular attraction in the Black Forest: Lake Titisee located in the town Titisee-Neustadt

The Black Forest or Schwarzwald in German, is home to the cuckoo clock, the Grimm Brothers’ fairy tales and world-renowned thermal spas. Black Forest Germany is a popular vacation spot for locals and tourists alike.

Fun Fact:
Black Forest cake is not named after Germany’s Black Forest but rather a specialty liquor from the Black Forest region. Distilled from tart cherries, Schwarzwälder Kirschwasser is what gives Black Forest cake its flavor.
