A short drive from Quebec City, Canada, is Saguenay-Lac-St. Jean, a beautiful region in the Quebec Province that offers majestic views and fun for the whole family. Colleen Kelly and her children start by getting up close and personal with whales, by taking a boat tour of the magical area where the St Lawrence River and the Saguenay Fjord meet. After visiting the Fjord, the whales’ “playground,” Colleen and the girls go to the Fjord Museum to literally dig in and learn more about the environment. They also go on their first hands-on sailing adventure and soar through the trees on a daring ropes course at Cap Jaseux.
The vacation continues with a step back in time at the Historic Village de Val-Jalbert, where presenters in period costumes explain what life was like in the area during the 1920’s. A behind-the-scenes experience at the Zoo Sauvage de Saint-Felicien allows Colleen and the children to be zookeepers for the day, which includes weighing a camel and preparing food for the animals. ZOO SAUVAGE DE SAINT FÉLICIEN - Lac Saint-Jean Quebec
The wild Zoo of Saint-Félicien is the number 1 attraction in the Lac Saint-Jean, and it was our favorite. It specializes in creating a Boreal Biodiversity Center as most of the animals are from the Boreal Forest.
Included is a 1-hour ride in a large free-roaming landscape where the animals almost live in total freedom, nourish themselves, hide and confront each other. There are about 80 species here, from black and brown bears to wapitis, buffalos, and polar bears.
You will also have the chance to see historic sites from different time periods in the local history.

Nouvelle journée de road trip au Québec entre rencontres avec des passionnés, culture autochtone et faune locale...
➨ Bienvenue dans notre série de VLOGS au Québec. Nous avons réalisé un road trip de 2 semaines qui nous a mené de Montréal à Québec en passant par Tadoussac, le Fjord de Saguenay, le lac Saint-Jean, la Mauricie et les Laurentides.

➨ LES LOGEMENTS RECOMMANDÉS

Episode 02 : Dormir dans une cabane au Canada
➨ On commence ce VLOG au pays des bleuets dans un ancien presbytère où nous avons passé la nuit et une très belle soirée autour du partage comme on les aime quand on est en voyage, à la découverte d'autres cultures parfois loin de nos habitudes.
Hébergement :
Le lendemain matin, c'est une autre culture que nous avons découverte, celle des nations autochtones, ou du moins touché du doigt grâce à la visite du musée amérindien de Mashteuiatsh, un village situé au bord du Lac Saint-Jean au nom imprononçable ou presque.
C'est accompagnés de notre guide autochtone Thomas Coom, que nous avons beaucoup appris sur le mode de vie des ilnus, la communauté native de la région du Lac Saint-Jean (et bien au-delà).
Une culture vraiment à part et une philosophie de vie, qui malheureusement se perd un peu de nos jours par manque de transmission, et que nous avons eu la chance de mieux appréhender grâce à notre guide passionné.
Musée améridien :
Sans transition, nous avons fini la journée au zoo sauvage de Saint-Félicien qui se situe à 30 minutes de route de là. Nous ne sommes pas particulièrement fans des zoos mais là c'est un peu différent car ici ce sont les humains qui sont en cage !!!
Sur une grande partie du zoo, c'est à dire sur 485 ha, les animaux sont en 'liberté' et nous autres humains, nous nous baladons dans un mini-train grillagé au travers de ce parc où les animaux caractéristiques du Québec et du Canada cohabitent en pleine harmonie (sauf les loups évidement qui sont dans un énorme enclos). Mais la visite ne se limite pas à l'observation de la faune car on en apprend plus aussi sur l'exploitation des espaces naturels au CANADA au cours des siècles, d'abord par les autochtones puis par les colons français et anglais qui ont radicalement métamorphosé le territoire par leur nombre, la culture et l'élevage.
Bref, une belle visite qui met l'accent sur les conséquences de l'action de l'homme sur son environnement.
Une visite qui complète parfaitement celle du musée amérindien. On tient à souligner que ce zoo est à but non lucratif dans le sens où tout l'argent est réinvesti dans la préservation de la nature et des animaux.

Le Zoo sauvage de Saint-Félicien est un jardin zoologique situé à Saint-Félicien. Il est géré par le Centre de conservation de la biodiversité boréale inc. et se consacre à la conservation de la faune boréale. Le zoo a été fondé en 1960 comme un zoo traditionnel comprenant des animaux nord-américains et exotiques.On y ajoute les sentiers de la nature et six villages historiques en 1972. En 2001, le Centre de conservation de la biodiversité boréale est fondé et l'accent est mis sur les animaux de la zone boréale ainsi que sur la recherche visant à préserver la biodiversité boréale. Il se distingue des zoos traditionnels en faisant cohabiter certaines espèces d'animaux dans des habitats. aussi semblables que possible à leurs habitats naturels. Sa superficie est de 485 ha et il compte près de 1000 animaux représentant 80 espèces. La visite des sentiers de la nature permet au visiteur de parcourir 7 km à bord d'un petit train grillagé à travers une reconstitution des grandes régions canadiennes où les animaux sont laissés en liberté.

The zoo was founded in 1960 as a traditional zoo with North American and exotic animals, and was joined by nature trails and six historic villages in 1972. In 2001, the Centre for the Conservation of Boreal Biodiversity was founded with a focus on boreal animals and research to preserve boreal biodiversity. It distinguishes itself from traditional zoos by cohabiting certain species of animals in habitats. as similar as possible to their natural habitats. It covers 485 ha and has nearly 1000 animals representing 80 species. Visiting the nature trails allows the visitor to travel 7 km on a small, screened train through a re-enactment of the great Canadian regions where animals are left to roam.
