5 Top Rated Tourist Attractions in Hastings, England | UK Travel Guide

5 Top-Rated Tourist Attractions in Hastings

Hastings is an attractive seaside resort popular for its sporting and cultural events, as well as for its association with the famous Battle of Hastings of 1066 (an event that in fact took place at Battle, six miles away). Although its importance as one of the Cinque Ports ended due to a series of destructive floods and repeated attacks by the French at the end of the 14th century, the town experienced another heyday in the 19th century when it became a seaside resort, taking Brighton as its model.
Let's see 5 tourist attractions in Hastlings

1. Net Lofts and Hastings Fishermen's Museum
2. Hastings Castle
3. Old Town
4. 1066 Battle of Hastings: Abbey and Battlefield
5. Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve

Places to visit in UK | HASTINGS | East Sussex

Hastings is a town on England’s southeast coast. It's known for the 1066 Battle of Hastings, fought on a nearby field where Battle Abbey now stands. The Norman ruins of Hastings Castle, once home to William the Conqueror, overlook the English Channel. East along the shingle seafront of Stade beach, Hastings Fishermen’s Museum and Shipwreck Museum document maritime history.

As for the Norman Conquests, Hastings is not the actual location of the famous battle in 1066. That exact spot is just a few miles down the road at Battle Abbey.

However, its legacy still colours the entire town. The remains of William the Conqueror's first English castle still stand today, though centuries of warfare and erosion have taken their toll.

Today the town offers a range of attractions for the short break visitor looking for what to do in Hastings. From Britain's steepest funicular, to the meandering alleyways of the Old Town, it's a great place to explore for a few days.

HASTINGS East Sussex - Things To Do & See

This was my first visit to Hastings in East Sussex, exploring the old town, pier, and seafront. The video was filmed over two days.
I could have spent more time exploring Hastings. The resort was a little quiet and some attractions were not open or working on restricted opening hours. The old town and Rock a Nore have their own feel, definitely recommend a wander.
The beaches are shingle and pebbles with a steep slope to the water's edge.
Parking is plenty but beware of the seagulls who love to sit on car roofs and leave a mess.
I hope you enjoy this video, here are some more seaside videos you might want to watch.

Hastings Day Trip - What to Do with a Day in Hastings, East Sussex

Today I want to share my guide to taking a Hastings day trip with you. This seaside town in East Sussex, England is a great place to escape to the coast for a day of waterfront fun.

Before I planned my day trip to Hastings, I’d never really had the town on my radar screen.

This was in spite of the fact that it shares coastline with famous spots like Brighton, Dover, and East Sussex beaches like Camber Sands.

I was remiss to overlook it. Famous for its connections to William the Conqueror, who came from Normandy in 1066 and defeated English King Harold in the Battle of Hastings in nearby Battle, Hastings has a long history.

That means it’s not only home to hilltop castle ruins, but also beautiful historic streets. Add to that beaches, a pleasure pier, waterfalls and lots of fish and chips, and a Hastings day trip is a must on a sunny day.

It’s easy to get to Hastings from London on the train. Direct rail services depart from stations like Charing Cross and London Bridge, and the journey takes just over an hour and 15 minutes.

Driving to Hastings is an option, too. It takes around 2 hours to drive to Hastings from London, and there’s parking in town.

See below for locations of all the places I have been to.

Hastings Old Town - Hastings TN34 3AS

Places to see in ( Hastings - UK )

Hastings is a town on England’s southeast coast. It's known for the 1066 Battle of Hastings, fought on a nearby field where Battle Abbey now stands. The Norman ruins of Hastings Castle, once home to William the Conqueror, overlook the English Channel. East along the shingle seafront of Stade beach, Hastings Fishermen’s Museum and Shipwreck Museum document maritime history. The Jerwood Gallery shows contemporary art.

Hastings is a town and borough in East Sussex on the south coast of England, 24 mi (39 km) east of the county town of Lewes and 53 mi (85 km) south east of London. Hastings gives its name to the Battle of Hastings in 1066. It later became one of the medieval Cinque Ports. The town became a popular seaside resort in the 19th century with the coming of the railway. Hastings is a fishing port with a beach-based fishing fleet.

Some of the areas and suburbs of Hastings are Ore Valley, St Leonards, Silverhill, West St Leonards, and Hollington. Ore, Silverhill and Hollington were once villages that have since become part of the Hastings conurbation area during rapid growth. Hastings has four rail links: two to London, one to Brighton and one to Ashford. Of the London lines, the shorter is the Hastings Line, the former South Eastern Railway (SER) route to Charing Cross via Battle and Tunbridge Wells, which opened in 1852; and the longer is the East Coastway Line, the former London, Brighton and South Coast Railway (LBSCR) route to Victoria via Bexhill, Eastbourne and Lewes.

Hastings Castle was built in 1070 by the Normans, four years after the Norman invasion. It is located on the West Hill, overlooking the town centre and is a Grade I listed building. Little remains of the castle apart from the arch left from the chapel, part of the walls and dungeons. The nearby St. Clements Caves are home to the Smugglers Adventure, which features interactive displays relating to the history of smuggling on the south coast of England.

Hastings Pier can be seen from any part of the seafront in the town. The pier was closed in 2006 following safety concerns from the council. In October 2010, a serious fire burned down most of the buildings on the pier and caused further damage to the structure. However, the pier reopened on 27 April 2016 after a £14.2m refurbishment
