St Andrews, Scotland, United Kingdom - Driving Tour 4K

St Andrews (Latin: S. Andrea(s); Scots: Saunt Aundraes;[4] Scottish Gaelic: Cill Rìmhinn) is a town on the east coast of Fife in Scotland, 10 miles (16 kilometres) southeast of Dundee and 30 miles (50 kilometres) northeast of Edinburgh. St Andrews had a recorded population of 16,800 as of 2011, making it Fife's fourth-largest settlement and 45th most populous settlement in Scotland.

The town is home to the University of St Andrews, the third oldest university in the English-speaking world and the oldest in Scotland. It has been ranked as the best university in the UK by the 2022 Good University Guide, which is published by The Times and The Sunday Times. According to other rankings, it is ranked as one of the best universities in the United Kingdom.

The town is named after Saint Andrew the Apostle. The settlement grew to the west of St Andrews Cathedral, with the southern side of the Scores to the north and the Kinness Burn to the south. The burgh soon became the ecclesiastical capital of Scotland, a position which was held until the Scottish Reformation. The famous cathedral, the largest in Scotland, now lies in ruins. St Andrews Cathedral was once the largest building in Europe.

St Andrews is also known globally as the home of golf. This is in part because of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, founded in 1754, which until 2004 exercised legislative authority over the game worldwide (except in the United States and Mexico). It is also because the famous Old Course of St Andrews Links (acquired by the town in 1894) is the most frequent venue for The Open Championship, the oldest of golf's four major championships. Visitors travel to St Andrews in great numbers for several courses ranked amongst the finest in the world, as well as for the sandy beaches.

The Martyrs Memorial, erected to the honour of Patrick Hamilton, George Wishart, and other martyrs of the Reformation epoch, stands at the west end of the Scores on a cliff overlooking the sea. The civil parish has a population of 18,421 (in 2011).

The town also contains numerous museums, a botanic garden and an aquarium.

Top 10 Cities to Visit in Scotland | United Kingdom

Top 10 Cities to Visit in Scotland.

Scotland is generally seen as a destination with beautiful scenery combined with thousands of historic sites and attractions. These include prehistoric stone circles, standing stones and burial chambers, and various Bronze age, Iron age and Stone age remains. There are also many historic castles, houses, and battlegrounds, ruins and museums. Many people are drawn by the culture of Scotland.

The main tourist season is generally from April to October. In addition to these factors, the national tourist agency, Visitscotland, have deployed a strategy of niche marketing, aimed at exploiting, amongst other things, Scotland's strengths in golf, fishing and food and drink tourism.

Number 10. St. Andrews
St. Andrews is a must-visit for anyone with an ounce of interest in golf. Now something of a mecca for golfers, the Royal and Ancient Golf Club in St. Andrews was established in 1754, making it the oldest - and most prestigious - course in the world. In addition to its seven golf courses, the excellent British Golf Museum is worth a visit, too. There's much else to see and do here that's not related to the sport of golf. St. Andrews is a university city, home to the country's oldest seat of higher learning, and one of its top accommodation options when school's out.

Number 9. Dumfries
From Ayr, it's only a short drive to Dumfries, which also harbors a number of Robbie Burns-related attractions. Topping the list is the poet's former home on Burns Street.

Now an excellent museum dedicated to the poet and his life, it was here Burns lived for the last few years of his life; and thanks to its free admission, the museum is also considered the top thing to do for free in Dumfries. Other must visit attractions include the Dumfries Museum.

Number 8. Ayr
the city of Ayr on the west coast of Scotland is well worth exploring, Best known as the birthplace of Robbie Burns. Scotland's most famous poet is celebrated everywhere here. To make sure you don't miss any of the best landmarks related to this legendary Scotsman, follow the Burns' Heritage Trail to Alloway on the outskirts of Ayr.

Number 7. Stirling
The lovely university city of Stirling has a long and rich history, especially as it relates to Scotland's struggle for independence through the centuries. Just 50 minutes' drive from both Edinburgh and Glasgow, Stirling is where Scottish king Robert the Bruce sent the English packing in 1314.

Number 6. Perth
Just a short hop from Dundee - and accessible by rail from Edinburgh, providing a chance to cross the famous Forth Rail Bridge - the small city of Perth offers a pleasant taste of a less-busy Scotland.

Number 5. Inverness
Exploring the Scottish Highlands should be a highlight of your Scotland travel itinerary. And there's no better place to use as your base than the beautiful Highland city of Inverness. From here, you're just a short drive away from such iconic Scottish scenery as Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle, and some of the most memorable views you'll experience in a country that, frankly, is full of incredible vistas.

Number 4. Dundee
An easy day trip from Edinburgh, Dundee is famous for its spectacular river crossings. Stretching as far as the eye can see across the Firth of Tay from Dundee all the way to the village of Wormit, Considered one of the world's top rail trips, the views are simply stunning as you travel the structure's two miles of steel.

Number 3. Aberdeen
Known locally as the The Flower of Scotland, Aberdeen, like Glasgow, is full of parks and gardens. By far the most famous is Duthie Park, home to the internationally acclaimed David Welch Winter Gardens, one of the UK's biggest indoor gardens. Here, you can visit and enjoy year-round displays of tropical plants and exotic flowers located in a variety of large greenhouses.

Number 2. Glasgow
Since its transformation from an industrial city to the cultural center of Scotland, Glasgow has become one of the country's top-rated tourist destinations. Part of this transformation has taken place on former industrial land along the River Clyde, which has been rebuilt and revitalized in the past few decades.

Number 1. Edinburgh
Whether you're here for a weekend or a week, Edinburgh offers no end of things to do. While the capital city of Scotland is best known for its incredible medieval castle - Edinburgh castle is consistently ranked as one of the UK's most visited tourist attractions - there are numerous other parts of this beautiful city to explore. old man of storr glencoe things to do in edinburgh

10 Best Seaside Towns in the UK

What are the best seaside towns in the United Kingdom? New towns are developing at the seaside across the UK in addition to those ancient towns and cities. All of these towns and cities are worming their way into the hearts of tourists from home and abroad. With due respect to these towns, and out of a deep sense of duty, we want to identify which of these towns are the best so that we can help the decision-making process for those having reasons to consider seaside towns. On the basis of that, we present to you the 10 best seaside towns in the UK.
Please note that most of these best towns in the UK have at one time or the other been the best in England.
10. Swanage, Dorset, England
The tenth place we’ll consider as one the best seaside towns in the UK is Swanage in South West of England. The town has been a popular seaside resort since Victorian times. Up till now, families have continued to enjoy its calm shallow beach. This seaside is also one of the 10 best seaside resorts in the UK.
With its panoramic views, the seaside resort offers relaxing luxurious holidays in self-catering accommodation in caravans and luxury hot tub lodges. If you want to own a holiday home, they’re available here with unrivaled views across the bay. The town is about one kilometer from the leisurely beautiful Swanage Railway. Its proximity to this and other parks, beaches, and castles makes it a good choice.
9. St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales
Stepping out of England, we find a small city and community in Pembrokeshire known as St Davids. It is the smallest location in the whole of the United Kingdom with city status. With its stunning coastal scenery unmatched in Pembrokeshire, it’s also the smallest urban area by local authority boundary.
One of the reasons for its inclusion on this list is its ability to blend its sacred status with its National Park. St Davids has a relaxed and vibrant atmosphere as you see surf shops, outdoor adventure centers, holiday cottages, and hotels in the shadow of its cathedral.
8. Southwold, England
When this town was found in the ninth position on the list of the most popular seaside destinations, we knew that it would be among the 10 best seaside towns in the UK. Now, it is the number 8 on this list. All year round, Southwold remains a tourist attraction, thanks to its dramatic coastline and beautiful architecture. Its cozy pub lunches and walks along its beach are charming.
As you walk along its pier, you will see spectacular views as you check in and out of many independent shops. You would love the charming seaside resort of Southwold. Though it’s almost an island, its sandy beach and hut-lined promenade offer a wonderful environment for holidaymakers and weekenders.
7. Filey, North Yorkshire, England
Ironically to some, Filey which is a town in the Borough of Scarborough considered unpopular by some people is one of the 10 best seaside towns in the UK. Truly, this beautiful seaside destination in North Yorkshire deserves a slot here as one of the most popular in the UK. It used to be a fishing village before developing into a popular resort with a very large beach that is playing a remarkable role in popularizing it.
It is quieter than most of its neighbors and most of the other coastal towns. This is because it has enough accommodations, seats, and transportation. There is no need for any rush here. You can just go there and enjoy your peace.

Scotland is the most northerly part of the four areas that make up the United Kingdom. It’s known for rugged landscapes defined by mysterious lochs, magical mountains, and gothic castles. Scotland also has a strong culture featuring Celtic music, traditional kilts, and sophisticated whiskies. In this video, we show 10 of the best places to visit in Scotland.

9. Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park
Situated approximately 60 miles or 96 kilometers to the west of Edinburgh, Loch Lomond & the Trassachs National Park is the oldest national park in Scotland. It’s one of the most popular places to visit thanks to its proximity to urban areas as well as a wide variety of activities.

Glencoe Valley is located in the Scottish Highlands in western Scotland. The area is known for its impressive mountain scenery, beautiful waterfalls, and trails that climb steep peaks, such as the Pap of Glencoe.

New Brunswick Travel Guide (Canada) | Visiting Fredericton, Saint Andrews, Fundy & Hopewell Rocks

Come join us for our New Brunswick Travel Guide as we visit this beautiful province in maritimes of Canada visiting Fredericton, Saint Andrews, Fundy National Park and the Hopewell Rocks.

We kick things off in Fredericton, where my parents live, playing tourist by visiting the historic downtown centre, city hall, pedway, lighthouse, Odell park and legislative building as well as walking along Waterloo Row to see some historic mansions and the Fredericton Railway Bridge (pedestrian walking bridge) to grab lunch and beers at Picaroons Roundhouse.

From Fredericton we continued our road trip by heading south to visit Saint Andrews. Beautifully situated along the coast this is one of the most scenic towns in New Brunswick and great place to go boating and/or whale watching. Although we just visited briefly we really enjoyed our fish and chips and assorted seafood platter lunch and walk along the beach.

We continued onward to Fundy National Park where we set up base in a beautiful cabin located in Cape Enrage nearby Alma. From here we did several days worth of exploring Fundy National Park visiting lakes, hiking trails, beaches, rivers and more. Togo especially loved the opportunity to splash around as much as he could.

Our final stop visiting New Brunswick was at Hopewell Rocks - the most iconic attraction in the province. Having a chance to visit with beautiful weather and before the crowds descended was the perfect ending to our time in New Brunswick. If you're looking for an underrated Province to visit in Canada look no further than New Brunswick. This province has so much to offer and is well off the typical tourist radar.

New Brunswick Travel Guide (Canada) | Visiting Fredericton, Saint Andrews, Fundy National Park & Hopewell Rocks:

Today we’re going to be taking you on our family road trip across New Brunswick! After two days driving across Ontario and Quebec, we finally arrived at our destination: Fredericton, the capital of New Brunswick. We show you Fredericton highlights, and then we’ll be touring the charming seaside town of St Andrews, hiking in Fundy National Park, and marvelling at the Hopewell Rocks on the Bay of Fundy, which is home to the highest tides in the whole world. We hope you’ll enjoy our tour of the province and now let’s go explore New Brunswick.

We took a break after all that food and drink, and later in the afternoon we drove to Odell Park so that Togo could enjoy a walk in the woods.

We showed my parents a few of the city landmarks stopping at Town Hall, the lighthouse, and the Legislative Building, and then it was time to hop in the car and start this road trip!

Our next destination was St Andrews, about a 2 hour drive away. This is a very picturesque seaside town where you can do whale-watching excursions, boat tours, and enjoy delicious seafood.

Because it was such a hot day, we also made time to find a beach so that Togo could splash around.

Then, it was time to hop back in the car and drive to our next destination: Cape Enrage where we had rented a cottage for the next 2 nights. It was about a 3 hour drive to get there with a few stops for the dog along the way. We had to cross all of Fundy National Park.

The following morning, we got an early start and made our way to Fundy National Park for some hiking. After a few days of driving, Togo was thrilled to be out in the woods leading his pack down the trails.

After a little snack on the picnic tables, we got back in the car and drove towards Herring Cove to give Togo a chance to play in the water. Alma is a small town located just outside the park, so they picked up some fish and chips with coastal views.

That afternoon, we continued exploring the rest of Fundy National Park and visited two different lakes. The fog was starting to roll in as we drove back to the cottage that afternoon, and shortly after, it started to rain. We were lucky enough to have a special visitor: this deer!

The next day was another early start because it was our last day in the province and we couldn’t miss the Hopewell Rocks!

St Andrews - Scotland

See the best accommodation St Andrews is a former royal burgh on the east coast of Fife in Scotland, named after Saint Andrew the Apostle. The city is home to the University of St Andrews, the third oldest university in the English-speaking world, the oldest in Scotland and one of Britain's most prestigious. The University is an integral part of the burgh, and during term time students make up approximately one third of the city's population. St Andrews has a population of 16,680, making this the fifth largest settlement in Fife.

There has been an important church in St Andrews since at least the 8th century, and a bishopric since at least the 11th century. The settlement grew to the west of St Andrews cathedral with the southern side of the Scores to the north and the Kinness burn to the south. The burgh soon became the ecclesiastical capital of Scotland, a position which was held until the Scottish Reformation. The famous cathedral, the largest in Scotland, now lies in ruins.

St Andrews is also known worldwide as the home of golf. This is in part because the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, founded in 1754, exercises legislative authority over the game worldwide (except in the United States and Mexico), and also because the famous links (acquired by the city in 1894) is the most frequent venue for The Open Championship, the oldest of golf's four major championships.

( source: Wikipedia )
