15 things to do in SHIBUYA, TOKYO ???? (Japan travel guide)

Today’s video is going to be a list of things you could do in Shibuya????

Shibuya is a popular district within Tokyo where you can find a variety of places for entertainment and recreation such as shopping malls, restaurants and bars, karaoke centers, and more. Let me give you a list of 15 things to do here:

✅ Cross the Shibuya crossing.
- It’s a popular scramble crossing located in front of the Shibuya Station and stops vehicles in all directions to allow pedestrians to inundate the entire intersection. It’s often featured in movies and television shows which take place in Tokyo, such as The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Alice in Borderland, and Resident Evil: Afterlife.

✅ Take a photo with Hachiko.
- One of Japan's unofficial landmarks, the Hachiko statue in Shibuya is a homage to the faithful Akita dog who waited at Shibuya Station every day for his master, even after his death. It’s very common to set this place as a meeting place with friends.

✅ Shop at Shibuya 109.
- It’s a 10-floor fashion shopping mall loaded with mini-shops where you can buy trendy clothes, extravagant accessories, branded make-up and beauty products. It is one of those high-rise iconic buildings you will see upon stepping in Shibuya’s grounds.

✅ Explore Shibuya Center-gai.
- After crossing the Shibuya Crossing and entering the street just to the left of the Tsutaya and Starbucks, you’ll find yourself in Shibuya Center-Gai. It’s an iconic street in Shibuya and is one of the most visited tourist sites in Shibuya. There are countless things to do at Center Gai from shopping to eating.

✅ Eat at Ichiran Ramen.
- It’s one of the most famous Tonkotsu (pork-based broth) ramen restaurants in Japan. Instead of open space tables, Ichiran Ramen features small booths separated by wooden panels, which makes it an introvert’s paradise.

✅ Have unlimited Japanese snacks at Dagashi Bar.
- The restauant is designed to look like a Showa-era store and inside the sweets are piled up in wicker baskets alongside other memorabilia. For a ¥500 cover charge, you can get unlimited snacks at the bar for 2 hours.

✅ Sing your heart out at Karaoke BanBan
- Karaoke is available everywhere in Japan, especially near train stations and shopping centers. Karaoke BanBan is usually cheaper and includes an all-you-can-drink bar.

✅ Enjoy unlimited tacos at Tex Mex Factory.
- TEXMEX FACTORY brings authentic Texas-style Mexican food to Tokyo in a dynamic and trendy setting. If you go on a weekday lunch, you can enjoy unlimited Tacos for only 1280 yen which includes the drink bar and sides like salad, nachos and french fries.

✅ Check out IKEA Japan.
- You may have IKEA in your country, but it’s worth checking out the branches in Japan as well, especially when there are items that are on sale. Take a break at the food court too and have a nice meal and snacks without breaking the bank.

✅ Catch the seasonal collab cafes.
- Japan has collab cafes from time to time, and this particular one we went to was Pronto’s collab with Netflix’s Stranger Things. It was available for months and was very hard to make reservations. The menu and the atmosphere was really enjoyable, especially if you’re a fan. Different cafes collab often with anime.

✅ Shop for your favorite games and anime merch at Shibuya PARCO.
- It’s a department store that caters towards a young, hip crowd. Make sure to visit the 6th floor as it is an otaku’s dream floor, packed with anime and gaming fun. Here you’ll find several stores worth your attention: the Nintendo Tokyo, Pokemon Center Shibuya, Capcom Store, Jump shop, etc.

✅ Hangout at Miyashita Park.
- Once a public park, it’s been turned into a stylish new complex, complete with a massive shopping mall, plenty of restaurants and cafés, a hotel, and a rooftop park with sports facilities where you can enjoy wall climbing, skateboarding, etc.

✅ Eat and have drinks at Shibuya Yokocho.
- Situated on the south first floor of the Miyashita Park building is “Shibuya Yokocho”, a cluster of izakayas sitting right next to each other along a 100-meter indoor alley, providing in total approximately 2500 food items, making it a wonderful daily food festival!

✅ Shop and explore Shibuya Scramble Square.
- Rising to a height of about 230m and with 47 floors aboveground, Shibuya Scramble Square is the tallest building in the Shibuya area. It is a large-scale complex comprising an observation deck, offices, branded shops and restaurants.

✅ Enjoy the amazing view from Shibuya Sky.
- It’s a full 360 degree observatory overlooking Shibuya and the greater Tokyo skyline. It’s a must-visit for your Instagram feed. I recommend going an hour before sunset, so you can enjoy taking photos in daylight, golden hour and the mesmerizing nightscape. (Price 1800yen)

Tokyo is overrun by tourism, luckily for you there is an alternative nobody is talking about yet. The Nakano district is just 5 minutes west by train from Shinjuku and a hidden gem in Tokyo. Nakano is famous for being the oldskool Anime, Manga & Gaming mecca compared to the hugely popular Akihabara electronic town district plus is it extremely cozy and welcoming compared to obvious tourist hot spots of Tokyo.

Download my FREE map of Nakano:

Nakano is especially great to visit during a rainy day in Tokyo since Nakano's primary shopping street and the Nakano Broadway complex, which houses 250 stores, are all indoor. Nakano Broadway includes super fun places, super cheap Japanese snack shops, plenty of arcades and comic book stores to keep you entertained throughout the day.

Whoever says Tokyo is expensive is an amateur traveler and is just doing it wrong. Most travelers go to Shinjuku, Shibuya & Ginza which are quite expense. Together with my friends Heather, Kelly and Bobby we enjoyed an incredibly cheap evening food adventures in Nakano.

Start your adventure in Nakano by walking through the Sun Mall shopping street until you end up at the Nakano Broadway complex where you can browse through at least 30 Mandarake store. Mandarake is THE pre-owned comic book dealer of Tokyo since 1987. Every Mandarake store has a different theme. For the most unique Mandarake store head to the 3rd floor where you can enter a special shrine that sells vintage tin toys.

The best part of the Nakano Broadway complex is the basement. Here you'll find gigantic cheap grocery stores with incredible products ranging from household items to dirt cheap fish and delicious sushi pre-made meals.

Near the back of the basement you'll find the Daily Chico soft-serve ice cream store that sell this ridiculous 8 flavors, 40-centimeter-tall soft-serve ice cream cone which makes for hilarious selfies and sells for 480 YEN, $4 USD!

In the evening I recommend you explore the extreme cozy back alleys on the east side of the Sun Mall shopping street. This area houses plenty of sake bars, karaoke shops and izakaya’s (Japanese drinking spots) but above all wagyu beef and steak houses. Wagyu is expensive fat marbled beef that will melt on the tip of your tongue. After some digging I found that Horumon Yakiniku offers the best bang for your buck. Their wagyu beef was mouth-watering delicious.

Another place to visit is Terrie's Dog Cafe. Entrance is FREE but does require you purchase a plain tea or coffee with rates starting at only 300 YEN, $2.80 USD. Terrie's Dog Cafe is a shelter for rescue dogs so please do the right thing and support these poor little cuties.

My favorite part of Nakano is the atmosphere, it is cozy, friendly and fun, especially on a rainy day. With the massive amounts of indoor shops there is something to do for everyone. Do not hesitate and make the 5-minute train journey just west of Shinjuku main station.

In conclusion, Nakano is the definition of a cheap day in Tokyo. Especially for travelers on a serious budget. Do not pay tourist prices in the obvious tourist districts of Tokyo. Head out of the tourist comfort zone and explore the lesser known areas. You won't be disappointed!
