Rustington is a village and civil parish within Littlehampton in the Arun District of West Sussex. Rustington is approximately at the midpoint of the West Sussex coast and midway between the county town of Chichester and Brighton. The A259 runs along the north of Rustington, westward to Littlehampton, Bognor Regis and Chichester, and east to Worthing and Brighton.

With a population of over 14,000 in 2014, it has the size and facilities of a small town, including a shopping area with a mix of independent and chain stores. The parish of Rustington includes the neighbourhood of West Preston. Rustington was in World War I home to an American air base, at the east of the High Street.

Rustington contains a conservation area which extends from the south end of North Lane to The Lamb in The Street. Here, where trees are protected, are the largest number of pre-1850 listed buildings in the post town, with The Street and surrounding roads containing some of the finest 17th and 18th century Sussex flint cottages in West Sussex, some of which are thatched.

There is a village information centre at the Churchill Parade car park. Rustington has its own museum, containing artworks and artefacts and a coffee shop, housed in an 18th-century thatched house recently converted for the purpose. Rustington competes annually in the South-East in Bloom competition. It holds an annual carnival and fête in August. Close to Christmas Eve, Rustington has a village carol concert which is free for local residents and features local school children accompanied by the Littlehampton Concert Band.

Rustington adjoins the English Channel, and ranges between 2 metres and 7 metres above Ordnance Datum. It has three main recreation grounds and neither woodland nor fields. Rustington shares Angmering railway station with Angmering and East Preston. Trains from this station go to Brighton and Portsmouth/Southampton, and some to London.

Places to see in ( Littlehampton - UK )

Places to see in ( Littlehampton - UK )

Littlehampton is a seaside resort and pleasure harbour, and the most populous civil parish in the Arun District of West Sussex, England. Littlehampton lies on the English Channel on the eastern bank of the mouth of the River Arun. Littlehampton is 51.5 miles (83 km) south south-west of London, 19 miles (31 km) west of Brighton and 10 miles (16 km) east of the county town of Chichester.

Littlehampton is on the A259, though this bypasses most of the town. Littlehampton is connected to the A27 south coast trunk road by the A284, which also provides the main north-south route out of the town and links to the A29 and A24. The A27 also later links with the M27. The A280 also links Littlehampton to the A24 and is a main route from the north-east.

Littlehampton is served by three railway stations, Littlehampton railway station, Angmering railway station and Ford railway station. Trains services from Littlehampton railway station are provided by Southern and occasionally First Great Western, with direct services to Brighton, London Victoria, Gatwick Airport, East Croydon, Bognor Regis, Chichester, Portsmouth and Southampton.

The Littlehampton Ferry, is a ferry linking the east & west parts of the River Arun together. The Ferry operates from 31 March – 30 September between 10am & 5pm. The Ferry Company also provide harbour tours on the hour.

Littlehampton's port is based around the River Arun, which opens onto the English Channel. A small stretch of this, 5 miles out to sea and 6 miles wide, is locally known as the Littlehampton Channel. Littlehampton started as a fishing port but now is a thriving port for thousands of leisure craft which visit from all over the UK and Europe. In 2009, use of leisure craft at Littlehampton rose to the extent that at least 200 more moorings were required. Littlehampton is also a commercial port, handling around 50–60 ships a year from Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and France with cargo including marine aggregates, stone, marble chippings and timber.

The East Beach Cafe, designed by Heatherwick Studio, opened on the seafront of Littlehampton's east beach in July 2007. Littlehampton is home to Britain's longest bench. The Look and Sea centre includes the Harbour Lights café and an observation tower.

Harbour Park is at the entrance of the River Arun with two restaurants, two arcades, a rollercoaster, log flume and other attractions. Norfolk Gardens, a multi-purpose outdoor site owned by Inspire Leisure, is further along the promenade.

Littlehampton harbour (see also Littlehampton Port above) is on the River Arun at the western side of the town, with yacht moorings. Also on the west bank of the river are Littlehampton Redoubt and Climping sand dunes.

A winter walk along the water's edge at low tide in Rustington, UK

We take a brief walk along the water's edge at low tide in Rustington. Another very windy day, so apologies for the wind noise on the microphone in places.

Together with the usual herring gulls, we caught glimpses of turnstones and a few sanderlings, one of which was particularly friendly.

Places to see in ( Arundel - UK )

Places to see in ( Arundel - UK )

Arundel is a market town and civil parish in a steep vale of the South Downs, West Sussex, England. Arundel lies 49 miles SSW of London, 18 miles WNW of the English Channel city of Brighton, and 10 miles east of the county city of Chichester. Larger nearby towns include Worthing, Littlehampton and Bognor Regis.

The much-conserved town with large green buffers has a medieval castle and Roman Catholic cathedral. Although smaller in population than most other parishes, Arundel has a museum and comes second behind much larger Chichester in its number of listed buildings in West Sussex. The River Arun runs through the eastern side of the town of Arundel .

Arundel was one of the boroughs reformed by the Municipal Reform Act 1835. From 1836-1889 the town had its own Borough police force with a strength of three. In 1974 Arundel became part of the Arun district, and now is a civil parish with a town council.

Arundel civil parish occupies an area somewhat larger than its built-up clusters, with the old town towards the north and the new to the south, separated by a main road. Arundel town is a major bridging point over the River Arun as it was the lowest road bridge until the opening of the Littlehampton swing bridge in 1908. Arundel Castle was built by the Normans to protect that vulnerable fairly wooded plain to the north of the valley through the South Downs. The town later grew up on the slope below the castle to the south.

Arundel includes meadows to the south but is clustered north of the A27 road, which narrowly avoids the town centre by a short and congested single carriageway bypass. Plans for a more extensive, HQDC bypass were debated intensely between 1980 and 2010 and built a junction for it at Crossbush. Arundel railway station is on the Arun Valley Line. The Monarch's Way long-distance footpath passes through the town and crosses the river here, while just under five miles north and north-west of the town the route of the South Downs Way runs. The town itself lies outside the boundaries of the South Downs National Park.

Arundel is home to Arundel Castle, seat of the Duke of Norfolk; and to Arundel Cathedral, seat of the (Catholic) Bishop of Arundel and Brighton. On 6 July 2004, Arundel was granted Fairtrade Town status. People born in Arundel are known locally as Mullets, due to the presence of mullet in the River Arun. Arundel is home to one of the oldest Scout Groups in the world. 1st Arundel (Earl of Arundel's Own) Scout Group was formed in 1908 only a few weeks after Scouting began.

Worthing Seafront West Sussex.

Worthing is a large seaside town with borough status in West Sussex, in the historic county of Sussex. It is situated at the foot of the South Downs, 10 miles (16 km) west of Brighton, and 18 miles (29 km) east of the county town of Chichester. With an estimated population of 104,600[1] and an area of 12.5 square miles (32.37 km2) the borough is the second largest component of the Brighton/Worthing/Littlehampton conurbation, which makes it part of the 12th most populous urban area in the United Kingdom.

Littlehampton Walk: Town Centre & Beach【4K】

Located on the south coast of England, in the county of West Sussex, and just under 20 miles west of Brighton, is the town of Littlehampton.

Geographically Littlehampton is situated on the eastern bank of the mouth of the River Arun as it meets the English Channel. In the Domesday Book of 1086 it is recorded as 'Hantone'. The prefix 'Little' was added later, allegedly to distinguish it from Southampton.

For centuries, Littlehampton was a small fishing village with a port. In 1735 a new port was created with a wooden harbour. Towards the latter end of the 18th century, 'taking the waters' at seaside towns and villages became fashionable, as the curative benefits of the minerals became known. Littlehampton's popularity was boosted by visits from poets Coleridge, Shelley and Lord Byron as well as painter John Constable.

In 1816 the Wey and Arun Canal opened, providing a direct route between Littlehampton and London via the waterways. The canal eventually closed in 1871, perhaps as a result of competition from the railways. In the case of Littlehampton, a rail connection was established in 1863. Today the station is situated on the West Coastway Line running between Brighton and Southampton Central. With its opening in the 19th century, the rail connection made day trips to Littlehampton from London, among other places, possible. Also, around this time, a ferry route was established between Littlehampton and Honfleur in Normandy. These travel links brought about significant growth in the town.

In 1884 Littlehampton Lifeboat Station opened. In 1967 a Blue Peter fundraising appeal helped launch the Blue Peter 1 lifeboat. This served the town up until 2016, when it was replaced by a new lifeboat called Renee Sherman, named after a French lady who lived in Wiltshire and left a legacy in her will.

In 1932 the famous holiday camp tycoon Billy Butlin opened an amusement park in Littlehampton. Originally called Butlin's Park, it was later bought by the Billy Smart Circus family in 1977 and renamed Smart's Amusement Park. In 1995 the current owner, Gary Smart, rebranded it as Harbour Park, as it is known currently. It is located just next to the beach (seen around the 4-and-a-half minute mark).

In 1944, Littlehampton became the base for a special Royal Marine Commando unit called the 30 Assault Unit. This was founded by none other than Ian Fleming, who would go on to write the James Bond novels. The 30 Assault Unit stormed Utah Beach during the D-Day Landings, and went on to seize the entire German naval archive, which was later used as evidence in the Nuremberg trials. In 2013 Littlehampton Town Council granted the unit freedom of the town.
