10 Most Hated Towns in England

What are the most hated towns in England? No matter how good a country is, every part of it can’t be loved equally. In fact, some parts of it are bound to be hated. Even the most fanatic lover of a country will love some parts of it less than others. I have heard some people complaining about some towns in England, the home of the Queen that some people are dying to live and work in. That prompts research into the 10 most hated towns in England.
This ranking is based mainly on the comments and complaints of residents of England and visitors to those towns. But it’s not limited to that since some complaints can be completely baseless. We dig deeper in researching these 10 most hated towns in England.
10. Slough
Let’s begin with Slough, a town in Berkshire, within the historic county of Buckinghamshire. This town is 20 miles west of central London and 19 miles northeast of Reading. You will find the town in the Thames Valley and within the London metropolis around the area at the intersection of the M4.
In spite of its location, Slough according to those visitors, is a town whose streets are littered with empty takeaway and full of packets or empty beer cans. This assertion hasn’t been contradicted by even just one resident. The quality of food in the town’s restaurants appears, kind of, made for losers who’re just out to eat as much unhealthy food as they can get away with.
9. Scunthorpe
It’s not desirable to find Scunthorpe among the most hated towns in England. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to take it out of our list because the facts obviously place it there. This industrial town in the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire should normally be the pride of Lincolnshire as its main administrative center. But the town with an estimated population of 82,334 in 2016 had many things going against it.
Residents of the UK’s largest steel processing center, also known as the Industrial Garden Town, are frustrated by a lack of the liveliness and diversity in the town only known for work. However, the loudest grouse that lists Scunthorpe alongside the most hated towns in England is the indiscriminate censorship and blocking of websites for spurious reasons.

SLEAFORD | Tour of Sleaford Town Centre [Filmed In 4K]

SLEAFORD, LINCOLNSHIRE - Tour of Sleaford Town Centre streets and landmarks.
We visit the market town of Sleaford ,11 miles north-east of Grantham, and 17 miles south of Lincoln. Also watch our tour of Lincoln ????????

Sleaford is a market town in the North Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, in the East Midlands, England. We take a look around the streets of the town, take in some Sleaford landmarks and see what's happening here.

Some of the brilliant buildings in Sleaford include William Alvey's baroque house on Northgate, the Manor House on Northgate and Sessions House on the Market Place.

Sleaford is famous for being a market town, St Denys' Church, the war memorial and the east side of the market place which is fab!

The singer Lois Wilkinson of the Caravelles was born in Sleaford. Glamour model Abi Titmuss grew up in Ruskington and was educated at Kesteven and Sleaford High School, and Bernie Taupin, Elton John's lyricist, was born in the town too. Eric Thompson who narrated The Magic Roundabout television series, was born in a house on Jermyn Street here.

Sadly Sleaford didn't quite squeeze into the list of best places to live in Lincolnshire. The top four voted for were Lincoln, Market Rasen, Skegness and Stamford. See my YouTube channel for vidoes on all those places!

We travel with a Microsoft Surface everywhere we go. I edit my videos on it & use it to backup my pictures and vides while we travel. It’s light and the best travel laptop on the market in my opinion.

We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.

We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

Travel Plug that works in pretty much any country & has four USB ports. A must for any traveler.

GRANTHAM | A walking tour of the beautiful market town of Grantham, Lincolnshire!

GRANTHAM | A walk through the beautiful market town of Grantham, Lincolnshire
The new Margaret Thatcher statue and birthplace - Full tour of Grantham Town Centre.
We visit the LIncolnshire town of Grantham where a new statue of Margaret Thatcher has caused a controversy. We take a look at the new statue and the birthplace of Maggie Thatcher as well as a full tour of the town centre here.

Margaret Thatcher statue egged and booed after being erected in Grantham
Hurled eggs and loud booing welcomed in the £300,000 memorial to Baroness Margaret Thatcher, which has been erected in her hometown of Grantham. Others took selfies in front of it.

Eggs have been thrown after a statue of Baroness Margaret Thatcher was lowered into place in the former prime minister's hometown of Grantham.

Within hours of the monument being erected on Sunday, loud booing could be heard from some motorists as they drove past, with one man shouting: Tear it down!

The Thatcher statue is certainly divisive and controversial - let me know in the comments what you think!

Grantham is a market and industrial town in the South Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, England, straddling the London–Edinburgh East Coast Main Line and the River Witham and bounded to the west by the A1 north–south trunk road. It lies some 23 miles south of the county town, Lincoln, and 22 miles east of Nottingham.

This town began as a Saxon village and grew into a market town during the 11th century. It was recognised in the Domesday Book in 1086 with a recorded population of 183 households and in the Middle Ages, the town was successful in the wool and leather trade.

St Wulfram's Church towers over the historic town and was described by Simon Jenkins as ‘the finest steeple in England’. The Angel and Royal hotel located on the High Street dates back to the 13th century and is one of the oldest coaching inns in the country. The charming property has hosted no less than seven Kings and Queens over the centuries.

Grantham is an attractive town on the border with Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. Within easy access of the A1 the town has some excellent close by attractions including the National Trust Property Belton House and the De Vere Belton Woods hotel and golf course.

The area has been home to some famous residents including Isaac Newton, Edith Smith (who was the UK’s first female police officer in 1914), and Margaret Thatcher, the former UK Prime Minister.

It is home to Belvoir Catle, an imposing castle that offers outstanding views. Belvoir Castle is the ancestral home of the Dukes of Rutland. The family have lived at Belvoir in an unbroken line for almost a thousand years. Today, you can enjoy a walk in the gardens and around the house, and they often host family days out and seasonal events.

You can also stop by the Engine Yard at Belvoir Castle, the first retail village of its kind in the local area. Here you can enjoy browsing the best of British gifts, garments and accessories from established and upcoming designers. You can also look forward to regular events, demonstrations and talks, from Countryside Corner debates to farmers’ markets every month.

Of Saxon origin, Grantham is mentioned in Domesday Book (1086), and its royal charter of incorporation was granted in 1463. In the Middle Ages Grantham grew prosperous from the wool trade. Located there is St. Wulfram’s Church, one of England’s finest medieval churches. The fine 18th-century George Hotel was made famous by Charles Dickens in Nicholas Nickleby (1839).

Grantham is the birthplace of former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher, and Sir Isaac Newton attended the King’s School there.

GAINSBOROUGH | Tour of Gainsborough Town Centre, Lincolnshire [Plus Riverside Walk!]

GAINSBOROUGH | In todays full tour of Gainsborough, Lincolnshire we have a look around this market town and head to Gainsborough Old Hall, The Riverside Walk and the Town Centre streets to see what's here. Also watch Grantham -

So we head into deepest Lincolnshire for a look around Gainsborough, a quiet little market town that is situated 18 miles (29 km) north-west of Lincoln, 16 miles (26 km) south-west of Scunthorpe, 20 miles south-east of Doncaster and 39 miles (63 km) east of Sheffield.

Gainsborough is also England's furthest inland port at over 55 miles from the North Sea!

Noteable and famous people from Gainsborough include actor Dame Sybil Thorndike, actor John Alderton and Bill Podmore the TV producer of Coronation Street

Back in July 1958, BP discovered oil at Corringham, then at Gainsborough in January 1959! Am surprised JR Ewing didn't move in with Sue Ellen and take it all over ????

Gainsborough was capital of England and Denmark!!
Historically, Gainsborough is the capital that never was. Towards the end of July 1013, the Dane Sweyn Forkbeard and his son and heir Cnut (Canute) arrived in Gainsborough with an army of conquest. Sweyn defeated the Anglo-Saxon opposition and King Ethelred fled the country. Sweyn was declared King of England and returned to Gainsborough. Sweyn and Cnut took up high office at the Gainsborough Castle on the site of the present-day Old Hall, while his army occupied the camp at Thonock (now known as Castle Hills). However, Sweyn died, or perhaps was killed five weeks later in Gainsborough. His son Cnut established a base elsewhere. So Gainsborough was named as capital of England and of Denmark for five weeks in the year 1013!

Gainsborough Town Council was established in 1992, and in the same year Gainsborough's first mayor was appointed.

Beside Riverside Walk are Whitton's Mill flats, which won a Royal Town Planning Institute award for the East Midlands. Marshall's Yard also received an award, for regeneration.

West Lindsey District Council had its offices at the Guildhall, Lord Street, but moved in January 2008 to a £4.3 million new-build in Marshall's Yard.

Silver Street is home to many Gainsborough shops. Elswitha Hall is the birthplace of Halford John Mackinder, founder of the Geographical Association.

A water tower in Heapham Road was built in 1897 to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria.

Gainsborough Town Hall, which was built in 1892, is now an entertainment venue with seating for up to 150 people

I hope you enjoy this walk through Gainsborough Town Centre. If so why not subscribe to my channel to see where I go next!

WELTON: West Lindsey Parish #80 of 128

WEST LINDSEY PARISH #80: WELTON

Welcome to West Lindsey’s answer to Newark and Sherwood’s Winthorpe – Welton – where I’ll be wondering throughout just how much I can feasibly leave out. There’s loads on this place

Welton is located 6 miles north of Lincoln, and is sometimes known as Welton by Lincoln in order to distinguish from other Weltons in Lincolnshire like Welton le Wold and Welton le Marsh.

The village is wrongly referred to by Wikipedia as a town as this does not have town status. However the very name Welton indicates it may have historically been referred to as such

Welton means “town with a stream”, and that stream is Welton Beck, which we encountered numerous times last week in Dunholme.

Since November 1969, the village has been a designated conservation area. Historically, the village has been known by a few names, including “Welletone” in the Domesday Book.

These names have on occasion made reference to Dunholme. For example, “Welton juxta Downeham” was used in 1583 as was “Welton nigh Dunham” in 1661

The village centre has been long appreciated for its picturesque and quintessentially English qualities, boasting multiple Grade II or higher listed buildings

Its pretty and it’s altogether lovely. This is Welton folks, lets go!

Class 47 D1501 (47402 'Gateshead') departs Alresford on the Mid-Hants Railway, Watercress Line with a mid afternoon departure to Alton during the lines 2013 Diesel Gala. GBRf Class 66 66738 patiently waits in the Cattle Dock for its next duty.
Clip recorded 26th April 2013.

The British Rail Class 47 is a class of British railway diesel-electric locomotive that was developed in the 1960s by Brush Traction. A total of 512 Class 47s were built at Crewe Works and Brush's Falcon Works, Loughborough between 1962 and 1968, which made them the most numerous class of British mainline diesel locomotive.

They were fitted with the Sulzer 12LDA28C twin-bank twelve-cylinder unit producing 2,750 bhp (2,050 kW) – later derated to 2,580 bhp (1,920 kW) to improve reliability and have been used on both passenger and freight trains on Britain's railways for over 55 years. Despite the introduction of more modern types of traction, a significant number are still in use, both on the mainline and on heritage railways.
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
The Watercress Line is the marketing name of the Mid-Hants Railway, a heritage railway in Hampshire, England, running 10 miles (16 km) from New Alresford to Alton where it connects to the National Rail network. The line gained its popular name in the days that it was used to transport locally grown watercress to markets in London. The railway currently operates regular scheduled services, along with dining trains, real ale trains and numerous special events throughout the year. The line is also well known for its extensive facilities, friendly staff and the quality of restoration work performed at Ropley.

The section of line from Alresford to Alton that can be seen today was purchased from British Rail in November 1975. Reconstruction of the line subsequently progressed in stages. The section between Alresford and Ropley re-opened on 30 April 1977. The main locomotive shed and workshops were constructed at Ropley. The extension to Medstead & Four Marks opened on 28 May 1983 and the final section to Alton opened on 25 May 1985.

The Watercress Line has four stations, positioned in the same locations as the former British Rail stations. All stations feature a passing loop, allowing trains to pass one another, with all but Alton station featuring two platforms connected via a footbridge.

Alton -- is situated at the northern end of the line. Alton is the only station that does not have two passenger platforms (two are assigned to South West Trains, with a cross-platform connection to the town and to onwards services to London Waterloo). Alton effectively has two passing loops, one at, and one just outside, the station, allowing trains to pass one another outside of the station and thus reducing the impact of the single platform during intensive operations.

Medstead and Four Marks -- is the highest station in Hampshire and a depiction of a quiet 1940s Southern Railway station building. The Signal and Telegraph department is based here, along with the Permanent Way group and the Building department.

Ropley -- is the engineering centre of the line and the location of the locomotive maintenance and running sheds. The station is famous for its topiary and houses the largest signal box on the line, controlling movements through the station, as well as much shunting to and from the locomotive yard.

Alresford -- is located at the southern end of the line. It is the main station for passenger facilities, including a museum, buffet and two shops. Most of the carriage stock is stored at this station, with Alresford Train Care performing day to day maintenance and cleaning to the carriages.
