Best Places to Visit in #Brasov, Romania - Explore #Transylvania

In the Middle Ages, Brașov was developed and settled by Saxons invited to settle here by Hungarian Kings. Tax exemptions allowed German merchants to build their fortunes, trading with both Western Europe and the Ottoman Empire which was on Brașov’s doorstep. That explains the grandeur of Council Square in the centre, as well as the Gothic Church for the city’s Lutheran congregation.

We have had a good walk in Brasov visiting a couple of interesting touristic points like The Black Church, The Rope Street, The first Romanian School and the first Orthodox Church of Romania, all part of Transylvanian history.

The Black Church (Biserica Neagra) from Brasov is one of the most beautiful Gothic monuments in Romania, but not the oldest one. It also has the biggest mechanical organ in the country and the largest collection of Oriental carpets outside Turkey.

Strada Sforii (Rope Street) is the narrowest street in the city of Brașov, Romania. It is believed to be one of the narrowest streets in Europe (L'Androuno, in France, Spreuerhofstraße, in Germany, and Parliament Street, in England, are narrower). It was initially built as a corridor that firemen could use, and it is first mentioned in 17th century documents. Strada Sforii is now a tourist attraction and meeting spot.

The first Romanian School had started to function before the 15th century and the first Romanian-language classes were held in 1583. It was in use all the way up to 1941, before becoming a museum not long after the war.

There are more than 4000 books and 30000 historic documents at the museum, which also has Romania’s first printing press. Guided by an elderly caretaker, you’ll get to see the first Romanian bible, as well as volumes of valuable first editions. The oldest document of all is a manuscript dating to the 11th century.

ROMANIA'S HIDDEN GEMS | This is why you should visit Romania!

Today we are exploring some of Romania's hidden gems! Join us as we continue on our road trip and visit a UNESCO fortified medieval church, Rupea fortress, and a lake hidden near an inactive volcano.

Our first stop of the day was at the perfectly preserved medieval church in Viscri. This church is set in a quaint, rural village which gives you a true taste of Romanian life. We definitely recommend braving the rickety stairs and taking in the gorgeous views from the top of the church, it's worth it!

We then visited one of the oldest settlements in Romania, Rupea Fortress. This fortress is set high above the town and offers beautiful panoramic views of the Transylvanian countryside. It is a great stop if you are traveling the road between Brasov and Sighisoara.

To end the day, we stopped at Emerald Lake for a quick swim. We were lucky enough to have great sun on our visit and we got to experience the emerald green color of the lake. On days when isn't so sunny you might experience a duller color. It was a great last stop because the water was super refreshing and the surrounding area was very quiet and peaceful with only a handful of visitors.

I visited Brasov and Rupea Castle

In this travel video from Romania I visited the Rupea fortress and the center of Brasov. I also visited the Black Church in Brasov. The most attractive places in Brasov are the terraces. A tourist attraction of Transylvania, Brasov is very visited by tourists for the nearby resort, Poiana Brasov, but especially for the Black Church in the center of Brasov which has a very interesting history. At the Rupea fortress we filmed a few moments with a drone, we hope you like this travel vlog through Romania and don't forget to leave a like, a comment and subscribe. Help us to grow this channel. Rupea Fortress Transylvania Romania

Rupea Fortress stands on one of the oldest archaeological sites in Romania, the first signs of human settlements dating from the Paleolithic and Early Neolithic (5500 BC–3500 BC). Archaeological investigations have revealed objects from this era, testimony of settlements in the region: stone tools, pottery, funeral urns, etc.
In Dacian times, on these places was raised the dava known as Rumidava or Ramidava (after various historical sources); conquered by the Romans, Rumidava became the Roman castra Rupes (in Latin, rupes means rock or stone). The Roman castra Rupes was part of the Roman fortification belt defending the commercial area and routes linking the Târnava Valley with the Olt Valley, Râșnov and Hoghiz.
According to Romanian archaeologists, the current fortress might have been built on the ruins of a former Dacian defense fort, based on Dacian pottery sherds found at the site.

Explore Romania : Rupea Citadel in 4K (Episode 2)

Rupea Citadel (Romanian: Cetatea Rupea, German: Burg Reps, Hungarian: Kőhalmi vár) is one of the oldest archaeological sites in Romania, the first signs of human settlements dating from the Paleolithic and early Neolithic.

The first documentary attestation dates from 1324 when the Saxons revolted against King Charles I of Hungary took refuge inside the citadel. According to archaeologists, the current citadel was built on the ruins of a former Dacian defense fort conquered by the Romans. The name of the citadel comes from Latin rupes meaning stone. From the 10th century, the citadel experienced a systematic expansion, so that in the 14th century it had a key strategic role, being the main linking point between Transylvania, Moldavia and Wallachia.

A popular legend in the area tells that Dacian king Decebalus would commit suicide within the citadel, during the Second Dacian War (105–106), when the citadel was known as Ramidava.

Rupea Citadel is situated in the west of Rupea, on a 120 m-high basalt massive. The citadel is located on DN13, 70 km from Brașov, on the road to Sighișoara. The citadel is visited each month by more than 10,000 tourists.

Sighișoara & Rupea Citadel with Transalp 650 - Day 1 - S1. Eps.12

On the first day we visit Sighișoara & Rupea Citadel with our Transalp 650.

The day started very early in the morning. We woke up at 6 o'clock. Immediately after 7 o'clock we left Arad. The first stop was after 110 km, on the Oradea belt, for something to eat.
After another 90km, close to Huedin... we stopped to eat at Pensiunea Raluca. We ate a very good Bob Gulaș, and Iasmina a cappuccino, a total of 30 lei. (6 €)
We fed in Huedin and went on the route Cluj-Napoca - Târgu Mureș to Sighișoara. Here we visited the old center, we drank a shock jouice and a Latte Machiato at Casa Cositorarului, 20 lei. (4 €)
Around 5 pm we left Sighișoara and from the road the Rupea Citadel was so beautiful that we stopped and visited it. Admission 30 lei for 2 adults.(6€) It is a very beautiful cidadel.
The next stop was at a MOL gas station in Brasov. Immediately after that we ate at MC Donalds, 30 lei. (6€) We hoped to escape quickly, we wanted to avoid standing in line ... But we didn't escape, in total we stayed more than an hour. At least it was good ????????????
Finally we arrived after 20:00 at Hotel Azuga Ski & Bike Resort, in Azuga. Here we spent 5 nights, with a dream view from the room, from the semi-panoramic balcony. On one side we had the ski slopes, and in front we had the Bucegi Mountains in all their splendor.
Total km for the first day, 580km, in about 14 hours.
