Come join us as we visit Rovinj, Croatia in this travel guide highlighting 10 things to do on a day trip from Pula. Located only 40 minutes away from Pula by bus taking a day trip to Rovinj is something we'd highly recommend. Instead of ticking off attractions Rovinj is a place to explore slowly by foot where you can enjoy getting lost in the old town wandering down back-alleys. Sip on cappuccinos, gobble gelato and eat pizza & pasta before ending your day by watching sunset over the adriatic.

10 things to do in Rovinj, Croatia Travel Guide | Rovigno Day Trip from Pula Transcript:
Today we are heading on a day trip. How exciting. Yes. So we've been based in Pula for a little while. Yep. And today we are going to Rovinj (Rovigno). It is only like 30 or 40 minutes away by bus. Yeah. So it is going to make for an awesome day trip. We've basically scheduled the whole day in Rovinj. We are leaving in the morning and we're probably going to come back after sunset.
After eating breakfast, we decided to do a little bit of exploring along the waterfront. We walked the full length of the marina stopping to take photos of the brightly painted buildings with matching window shutters, plus rows and rows of boats. Then once we reached the end, we were treated to these postcard-perfect shots of Rovinj from a distance.
A fun fact about Rovinj: though it’s now connected to the mainland, this once used to be an island. It was connected in 1763 as part of a land reclamation project under the Venetian Empire, which also explains why certain parts of the city may remind you of Venice.
After wandering around for a few hours, it was finally time for lunch, so we returned to the waterfront looking for a seaside restaurant.
Audrey had the shrimp risotto, I had shrimp pizza, and yes, we both shared with the cats, who had learned to swat if you approached empty-handed.
Atop the hill, we reached St. Euphemia’s Church. If you’re feeling particularly brave, you can even try climbing the bell tower’s infamous creaking wooden steps. Such are the steps’ reputation, that there’s even a bulletin board inside the church with photos of what to expect. We didn’t make it to the top, thought I was happy to settle for terrace views.
Later that afternoon, the skies finally cleared, so we enjoyed another walk along the harbour as well as a gelato stop along the way.
So what’s the verdict on Rovinj? You can definitely explore the town in one day, but if you have a few days to spare, this would make an even better base to explore the rest of Istria.

Rovinj | Most Beautiful Towns to Visit in Croatia 4K. Some of the best places to visit in Croatia is right here in this Croatia Travel Video. Rovinj Croatia is a beautiful and charming little town, typical of the Croatian seaside. You’ll most likely fly to Pula – Pula Airport is about 25 miles/40km south of Rovinj, and there are some direct buses from there to the town. The Istria peninsula is also one of the most beautiful areas in croatia, so dont forget to give Rovinj a try!

10 Best Places To Visit In Croatia. I am Rok and I’ve spent last 8 years travelling around Europe as a tour guide and I want to share with you my list of Top 10 Places To Visit in Croatia. It can be difficult to choose what to do in this amazing country, but I would recommend following Best things to do in Croatia in 2021.
We are starting with Croatian capital and the largest city, Zagreb. Next we go to beautiful Croatian coast, more precisely to Istria and its beautiful town of Rovinj. Not far away is another beautiful Istrian town, Poreč. Next we go south to Korčula island. Then we will look at one of the oldest cities on the Adriatic Coast, Zadar. From Zadar you can visit spectacular and the most dense archipelago in the entire Mediterranean, Kornati islands. Further south is the capital of Dalmatia, Split. Rovinj Croatia - Must Visit Attractions & Best Things To Do
Rovinj is a city that tops the favorite list of many travelers to the Istrian Peninsula and we were no different. Why is this town so beloved? Rovinj is romantic, historic, and looks and feels more Italian than Croatian. With twisting city streets, a bustling, photogenic harbor, and some of the best seafood restaurants in Croatia, this is a town that is not to be missed.
The Istrian Peninsula does not get the same astonishing numbers of visitors during the summer months as the Dalmatian coast, so this is a great place to visit if you want to avoid the crowds. Rovinj still gets a lot of visitors, but it doesn’t feel mobbed like Dubrovnik or Hvar can be in the summer.
For the most part, we spent the day wandering the old town, enjoying the view from the cathedral, and sampling a few restaurants. Rovinj is one of those places that is perfect for exploring without an itinerary or to-do list. Even so, there are a few spots well worth your time while in Rovinj. Here they are.
BEST THINGS TO DO IN ROVINJ
1. STROLL ALONG THE HARBOR
The small harbor of Rovinj is packed with fishing boats, small ferries, and batana boats (flat-bottomed boats used by the local fishermen). Plus, this is a nice spot to take a photo of the old town.
2. WANDER THE OLD TOWN
This is the best thing to do in Rovinj. These narrow, winding streets are fun to stroll and a blast to photograph. Along the way, go shopping at the small boutiques, have a coffee or a drink in one of the cafes, and search for hidden alleyways and steps down to the water’s edge.
Next to the harbor is Tito Square (Trg Marsala Tita). It’s hard to not notice the Italian touches in Rovinj and you can really get a feel for that right in this spot.
3. SHOP AT THE FARMER’S MARKET
Worth a quick look, this small market has vendors selling truffles, fresh fruits and vegetables, and even some souvenirs. This is the perfect place for a cheap, healthy snack to keep you fueled up as you tour Rovinj.
4. CLIMB THE BELL TOWER AT THE CHURCH OF ST. EUPHEMIA
For the best view over Rovinj and the coast, climb the bell tower. First, it’s an uphill walk just to get to the Church of St. Euphemia, which can be very hot in the summer months. Then, it is a climb up 192 creaky steps to the top of the bell tower. But it’s worth it for this view. Plus, the breeze feels amazing and it’s so much cooler here than down on the city streets.
5. HAVE A DRINK (AND MAYBE A SWIM) AT THE MEDITERRANEO BAR
This small bar sits right on the water’s edge with views out to St. Catherine’s Island and the harbor.
Colorful tables, chairs, and comfy beanbag chairs are arranged along the water’s edge, forming the perfect Croatian bar. I could have sat here all day.
6. TAKE A CRUISE FROM ROVINJ
We did not do this but I wish we had. There are a number of companies that offer cruises out into the sea, where you can get scenic views of the old town and the nearby small islands.
Another popular thing to do is to cruise to St. Catherine’s Island and the Red Island.
7. GO TO THE BEACH
There are a few places in Rovinj to lounge in the sun. Balota Beach is a popular spot right on the old town peninsula. This rocky outcropping is filled with sunbathers during the summer months. You can also go to the Golden Cape (Zlatni Rt) or Valdaliso Beach, a short drive from the old town.
PLANNING YOUR TRIP TO ROVINJ
HOW MUCH TIME DO YOU NEED?
One full day is plenty of time to explore Rovinj, go on a short cruise, and even spend some time at the beach. Or, just plop yourself down at the Mediterraneo Bar, go for a quick swim, and enjoy the view.
HOW TO GET HERE
The best way to get around the Istrian Peninsula is by car. You can’t park in the old town, but there are parking lots located just outside of the old town. The closest lots are labeled “Velika Valdibora” and “Mala Valdibora” on Google Maps.
DRIVING DISTANCES FROM NEARBY TOWNS:
Pula: 42 km, 45 minutes
Porec: 36 km, 45 minutes
Motovun: 47 km, 55 minutes
Piran: 80 km, 1 hour 15 minutes (plus a border crossing)
Rovinj can be visited year round. The most popular time to visit is during the summer months from June through September. Expect larger crowds and make your hotel reservations and dinner reservations in advance.
It can also be very hot during the summer. We were here in July and the temperatures were about 35°C (95°F) with a heat index up over 38°C (100°F).
You can visit Rovinj year round, however, some restaurants and hotels will be closed during the low season (November to April).

Rovinj Croatia is a picture perfect city on the west coast of the Istrian Peninsula. In this vlog, we take you on a walking tour of Rovinj and show you the best attractions Rovinj has to offer. With its colorful buildings, seaside harbor, quaint cafes, and cobblestone streets, it makes for a perfect day trip.
We started off our walking tour of Rovinj by getting coffee at Cafe Cinema. The outdoor terrace overlooks the harbor. A trip to Rovinj isn't complete without sitting by the harbor. From the harbor we could see St. Euphemia Church on the hill along with Rovinj's old town.
The Old Town in Rovinj is perfect for wandering around and exploring. To enter the Old Town, we went through Balbi's Arch. We loved getting lost along the cobblestone streets in Rovinj. The most picturesque street in Rovinj is Grisia Street. Grisia Street goes up to St. Euphemia Church. St. Euphemia Church is at the top of the hill overlooking the sea and the town of Rovinj.
After wandering around the old town, we had lunch at Tunaholic Fish Bar. We got the fried shrimp and squid. Both were delicious! Next, we made our way to the seaside. There are several places to sun bathe on the rocks and to go swimming. It was still a little too cold for swimming when we visited at the beginning of April.
Our last stop in Rovinj was to get gelato before heading back to Pula. Being in Rovinj felt like being in Italy. If you are in Istria, definitely make some time for visiting Rovinj.
