Shrove Thursday to Ash Wednesday are the most important days of carnival in Germany. Here´s a short tour of the carnival capitals Cologne, Mainz and Rottweil. The main carnival events begin on Shrove Thursday. At precisely 11:11 a.m., Cologne's triumverate kicks off the festivities. For six days, the streets, pubs and clubs are filled with merrymakers.

The Shrove Monday procession is the highpoint of celebrations in Mainz. Carnival Association members pull their floats along a seven-kilometer route through the city center, as some 500,000 onlookers line the streets.
Rottweil's Fools' Leap is one of the most colorful parades in southern Germany. Around 4,000 masked participants dance, jump and leap through the historic old town. The parade follows centuries' old strict rules.

Somehow i woke up earlier than expected that day, so as it was a very nice day not too hot i decided to make a walk at 6 am in the morning and see how the Rottweil looks at that time.
Rottweil is a town located in the southwest region of Germany, specifically in the state of Baden-Württemberg. Situated in the beautiful Neckar Basin, Rottweil lies about 90 kilometers (56 miles) southwest of Stuttgart and is known for its rich history, charming architecture, and scenic surroundings.
One of the notable features of Rottweil is its well-preserved old town, which reflects its medieval heritage. The town's history dates back to the Roman era when it served as an important trading center and military settlement. Today, visitors can explore the narrow, cobbled streets lined with half-timbered houses, admire historic buildings, and get a glimpse of the town's past.
A prominent landmark in Rottweil is the Rottweil Tower, also known as the Test Tower. This architectural marvel stands tall at a height of 246 meters (807 feet) and is primarily used for testing elevators and other technological advancements. It offers a panoramic viewing platform from where visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the town and the picturesque surrounding landscape.

Rottweil is a town in southwest Germany in the state of Baden-Württemberg. Rottweil was a Free Imperial City for nearly 600 years
Located between the Black Forest and the Swabian Alps, Rottweil has almost 139,500 inhabitants as of 2019. The old town is famous for its medieval center and for its traditional carnival (called Fasnet in the local Swabian dialect). It is the oldest town in Baden-Württemberg,and its appearance has changed very little since the 16th century.
Rottweil was founded by the Romans in AD 73 as Arae Flaviae and became a municipium, but there are traces of human settlement going back to 2000 BC. Roman baths and an Orpheus mosaic of c. AD 180 date from the time of Roman settlement. The present town became a ducal and a royal court before 771 and in 1268 it became a Free Imperial City.
In 1463 Rottweil joined the Swiss Confederacy under the pretence of a temporary alliance. In 1476 the Rottweilers fought on the Swiss side against Charles the Bold in the Battle of Morat. In 1512, Pope Julius II gave the city a valuable Julius banner for its services in the 1508-1510 Great Pavier Campaign to expel the French. In 1519, the Rottweilers left the old Swiss alliance. They joined a new one in which their membership was extended indefinitely – the so-called Eternal Covenant.
Rottweil thus became a centre of the Swiss Confederation. The relations between the Swiss Confederation and Rottweil cooled rapidly during the Protestant Reformation. When Rottweil was troubled by wars, however, it still asked the Confederates for help.
In the Rottweil Witch Hunts from 1546 to 1661, 266 so-called witches, wizards and magicians were executed in the imperial city of Rottweil. On April 15, 2015, they were given a posthumous pardon. An official apology was given by the City Council about 400 years after their violent death.
Rottweil lost both its status as free city and its alliance with the Swiss Confederacy with the conquest of the region by Napoleon in 1803.
The Rottweiler dog is named after this town; it used to be a butcher's dog in the region.

And all the stops for coffee, lunch and a bit of stretching the legs are water-related: Coffee at the Donauquelle, lunch at the Titisee and a last stop at the Triberger Wasserfall, Germany's HIGHEST waterfall. Another full day of biker fun in the Black Forest!
