Affordable Cities: 10 US Metro Areas With Underrated Livability, Walkability and Transit

Which city should I move to? This is a question people are increasingly asking themselves as the challenge of finding affordable living in coastal and sun belt cities continues to spiral out of reach. Now, we're all for fighting the good fight to get more housing built in the places where people want to live...but for some people, you just can't wait for solutions. Today's video is here to help!

There's a staggering difference in cost of living between the sought-after cities of California (and even skyrocketing cities like Austin and Nashville), and established, legacy cities in other parts of the US. So this video tackles the question of not only what are the most affordable places to live in the US, but where good prices intersect with things city-lovers care about: public amenities, culture, sports, walkability, bike-ability, and transit service.

This is CItyNerd's guide to the ten most underrated cities to move to in the US. Your results may vary, so let me know what you think I overrated or underrated down in the comments!

Washington's Best Place To Live is Tri-Cities on The Columbia River...in 4k!

Come along for a relaxing eight minutes of our exciting adventure to the Tri-Cities region in the State of Washington, an area rich in Native American history and once explored first by Lewis and Clark, where the confluence of water from three great rivers, the Yakima, Snake and Columbia, flow to a final destination in the Pacific Ocean.

In this video, I capture just a few of the wonderful experiences we had as Michelle and I are beginning to consider great American destinations for our future retirement. I believe these cities, Pasco, Kennewick, and Richland, along with a few other outer cities, offer everything one could want in a place to live: Beautiful weather, beautiful people, delicious locally grown food, and an abundance of activities that will assure we never get bored. Local farmers grow the food for the local grocery stores. And wineries, as well as microbreweries, will insure we always enjoy a fine libation. There were too many eclectic coffee shops and bakeries to count, but the best part was the warmness of the people. Everybody was open and friendly wherever we found ourselves.

Watch as I highlight these 10 places and activities in our short three day stay:
1. Clover Island and the Clover Island Lighthouse
2. The Cable (Ed Hendler) and Pioneer Memorial Bridges
3. The Columbia and Snake Rivers
4. The Twin Sisters hiking area along The Columbia River
5. Trains across and Boats along the river
6. Geese and sights in Sacajawea Historical State Park
7. Hiking up Candy and Badger Mountains
8. The Tagaris Winery
9. The Columbia Point Marina
10. A Dinner cruise on the Water2Wine Cruise Boat up the Columbia River

We really had a great time and I think you would love this part of America for a visit or even a new home. The beauty of the area and its people surpassed our highest expectations. I'd like to send out a special thanks to my new friends, Jim and Kellyn Zimmerlin, for their wonderful hospitality. Jim Zim, as he calls himself on his channel, has a highly successful YouTube channel with top notch cruise reviews and much more. I'll throw a link to his channel and many of the places we ventured during our trip. I hope you'll leave a comment and a like, but most of all, consider subscribing for more content as well as new music I'm always working on.

Finally...We stayed at the Best Western Premier in Pasco. I highly recommend them. They have a fantastic free breakfast, clean facility, and 24 hour pool, hot tub, sauna and workout rooms. It was simply an awesome stay!

10 Best Cities to Live in Texas

What are the best cities to live in Texas? In 2021, the United States as a whole grew about 1.5 percent. Texas saw the largest percentage increase in terms of absolute numbers and percentage, growing by 2.8%. There’s a constant desire for more space in America and that is probably one of the primary reasons that Texas is such a popular destination. Texas is growing at 1,000 people per day as reported by State Demographer Lloyd Potter. The state’s population growth is backed up by the latest world economic rankings. In a July 2015 report, the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor showed that 91 percent of the state’s CEOs say business start-ups are “a good thing for the state and its economy.” Here’s the list of the 10 best cities to live in Texas.

10. Waco
Waco has one of the highest projected job growth rates in the country over the next five years as the State of Texas and Baylor University collaborate to attract businesses to the area. It’s the first to be considered on this list of the 10 best cities to live in Texas. Waco is also expanding its options for retail, dining, and other services. In a bid to fast-track its recovery from Hurricane Harvey, Waco has continued to woo businesses and investors to the area. In the next five years, the city is expected to have a more than 10 percent job growth rate.
9. Southlake
This college town is surrounded by plenty of farmland, so there is ample space for homeowners to care for their horses and cows. Families also have opportunities to enjoy great outdoor recreational opportunities such as mountain biking, fly fishing, bird watching, and kayaking. This little coastal city is known for its oyster festivals and is famous for its beautiful beaches in Texas. The city itself is a historic river town with four miles of waterfront property.
8. Rockwall
Rockwall is a suburb of Dallas. It is walkable from the city. However, it is still not a cosmopolitan city. Its median household income of $77,654 is quite rich for Texas. Statistically also shows that it is the city with the most educated residents in the state. Rockwall has a higher rate of educated residents than anywhere else in the state. About 45.2 percent of them have a bachelor’s degree and more than half of its population either have either a university first degree or professional qualification.
7. North Richland Hills
North Richland Hills is certainly one of the best cities to live in the state of Texas. Residents of the hill country are known for their thick northern Dallas County, Hill County, and Edwards Plateau vegetation, year-round moderate temperatures, and scenic but challenging landscape. The long, narrow, rolling terrain creates a lovely, slow pace and intimate communities that are easily lovable.
6. Wimberley
The hills are a scenic backdrop to this quaint tourist town, home to world-class golf and cool indie shops. For all would-be-rescuers and naturalists, Wimberley has it all: rodeos, live music, and hot springs. If you prefer to be at the water's edge, check out Barton Springs, one of the largest spring pools in the world. If you love food, you'll love the Tex-Mex, gourmet coffee, barbecue, and Tex-Asian cuisine. For these and other reasons, Wimberley is one of the best places in Texas.

Drive with sightseeing tourist through beautiful Richland Center Wisconsin on Sunday, September 1, 2013

Color Fest Activities

Come join us in Richland County for Color Fest!

In the heart of the beautiful Wisconsin countryside, Richland Center celebrates the changing season and the colors of fall.

We keep the old-fashioned traditions alive alongside great new activities, like disc golf, beanbag tournaments, and geocaching.

Join in horseshoe and archery competitions, run a 5k, or hunt for bargains on unique items at area rummage sales and antique stores.

Pick up some fresh fall vegetables from the farmer's market, then head over to Oakwood Fruit Farm for newly-picked fruit, jams, and deserts.

Your kids will love to take part in sidewalk chalk art events and look at miniature displays from the Depot Gang's Model Railroad Club.

Bring your bikes and take a bicycle tour! Or strike out on your own and explore Wisconsin's natural beauty, like the nearby Ocooch Mountains or the local rivers and creeks. These waters offer the best trout fishing in the state, and look into local canoe and raft rentals for more fun on the water.

Richland Center is the best place to enjoy the fall season, in a little city stepped in small-town charm.

For more information visit us at

Trout Fishing in Richland County

Richland Center is surrounded by 267 miles of Class 1 and Class 2 trout streams that twist and bend through the Wisconsin countryside.

These coldwater streams produce such good fish that the Department of Natural Resources uses the trout from our waters to stock streams across the state!

Our three major streams are Pine River, Mill Creek, and Willow Creek. Willow Creek's small water is ideal and is easily fished with no wading required.

Bait shops are a great place to ask about guided fishing, and some shops provide their own professional guide service.

Plan a weekend! Relax with the quiet comfort of a local bed and breakfast, one of our fine motels, or enjoy a stay at one of the public or privately operated campgrounds. Some of these places offer guides and even classes on trout fishing for all skill levels, from beginner to master.

Be sure to read the rules for fishing put out by the DNR before heading out, and visit the Chamber of Commerce website to help you navigate the area and experience the best fishing in Wisconsin!
