Cabo Verde - Pearl of Africa | San Antão - São Vicente - Santiago | Cinematic travel & drone video

This is a cinematic video report of our 9 day trip to Cabo Verde in february 2022. I could fly my drone everywhere I wanted, or at least where the wind permitted it. I'm glad I brought my Air 2S, because my mini 2 would certainly have struggeled to fight the wind.

Cabo Verde is a small African country, but it's ten islands are so diverse. People here are really helpful and friendly, the food is fantastic and there are plenty of things to discover. It's impossible to select just a few of the best locations to visit in Cabo Verde, because there's so much to choose from.

You will definitely would wish to travel after watching this video about stunning landscapes and marine life in Cape Verde. Cape Verde has won a positive reputation in promoting what is considered the most stable democracy in Africa, a standard of living higher than most African nations, and one of the most politically liberal nations on the continent, and in the world.

How many of the places you have seen already in this video? Don't forget to mention in comments :)

Cape Verde’s climate is tropical, with a warm, dry summer. As a part of the greater Sahel region of Africa precipitation is meager and falls between the months of June to February, peaking in September.

Some islands see almost no rain, these are Sal, Boa Vista and Maio; these are arid. The islands with the most rain fall are Santiago, Fogo and Santo Antao, but are nonetheless semi-arid.

Cape Verde is formed by 10 main islands and about 8 islets. The main islands are (clockwise from northwest):
Santo Antão - Great hiking.
São Vicente - With the cultural capital of Mindelo.
Santa Luzia - Santa Luzia is uninhabited but can be visited as a day trip from São Vicente.
São Nicolau - Rural mountainous island based on agriculture. A quiet and relaxed get away.
Sal - Has great beaches, water sports and resorts aplenty.
Boa Vista - Even nicer beaches. Great scuba diving
Maio - Even more nice beaches.
Santiago Island - The first island settled in Cape Verde. It holds the current capital Praia, the original capital Cidade Velha, and the bulk of the nation's population.
Fogo - A spectacular volcano island which erupted as recently as November 2014.
Brava - A small island only accessible by boat and is a great place to get away from it all.

There are 24 cities in Cape Verde.
Praia – the capital, on Santiago Island
Mindelo – port city on São Vicente, probably the country's liveliest
Cidade Velha (Ribeira Grande) – A historic town on Santiago
Espargos is the capital of Sal where the airport is and Santa Maria is the main tourist area at the south of the island
Assomada is the seat of municipality of Santa Catarina on Santiago
Santa Maria - former administrative capital and the most populous city on Sal
Sao Filipe - historic town on Fogo

Brava, the smallest island, is a botanist's paradise, home to many unique flora that live in its misty forests
Pico de Fogo - an active volcano on Fogo that has created a unique landscape best explored on foot or horseback

Talk
The official language is Portuguese, used in all official publications and announcements as well as in business, media and schools, but the local language is Cape Verdean Creole (Kriolu kabuverdianu), a Portuguese-based creole language with 95% of the words from Portuguese and the rest mainly from West African languages. It is divided into 9 dialects spoken on various parts of the country. Even though Kriolu is comprehensible to a skilled Portuguese-speaker, almost all people can also speak Portuguese as a second language. French is also known by many, and some people also speak English.

It is a good idea to know some Kriolu or at least Portuguese, since even though young urban people are often quite proficient in English, this does not apply to old and rural people, and even those who can speak English will highly appreciate any attempt you do to speak Kriolu or Portuguese.

Do you know which places in Cape Verde are beautiful?||Mew Play

Cape Verde, also known as Cabo Verde, is made up of 10 major islands about 560 km (350 miles) off the west coast of Africa. Located in the central Atlantic Ocean, the archipelago was formed by volcanic action millions of years ago, though some islands have experienced eruptions in more recent history. Discovered by Portuguese explores in 1462, it was a colony of Portugal until gaining independence in 1976.
#Sal
It’s easy to guess what Sal’s main industry once was: The name translates as “salt.” Most of the salt mined in the 19th century was exported to Brazil; salt today is mined mainly for tourists to take home and for local use. Sal is now a popular tourist destination, having the main international airport in Cape Verde. It’s mainly a flat, sandy island, with winter trade winds turning it into a Mecca for surfers. There’s sunshine almost every day and just what is rain anyway? Espargos is the island’s political and economic capital, while Pedra Luna is known for its leaning church.

#Boa_Vista

Mountains, desert and beaches combine to make Boa Vista, Cape Verde’s third largest island, a good place to visit. With a name that translates as “beautiful view,” could it be anything else? More tourists are discovering the island, the closest to Africa, since an international airport opened in 2007. Be sure to check out the beautiful colonial style church near the square in Sal Rei, the island’s capital city.

#Santo_Antao

Santo Antao, the second largest of the Cape Verdean islands, is famous for its mountains. Though it seems desolate in some places, the island also features lush subtropical vegetation, such as fir, pine, and date and coconut palms. Ribeira Grande, the island’s capital and largest city, is a lively place

#Santiago

Santiago Island is the largest Cape Verde island; it’s where half the country’s people live. The first of the islands to be settled, it is home to the country’s capital, Praia. The island is a good place to see some of nature’s endangered species, including 38 plants and several rare birds. The island has a diverse landscape to enjoy: mountains, green valleys, sandy beaches (Praia Pranha is tops) and the country’s largest and oldest tree, a kapok that is 500 years old.

#Santa Luzia

Cape Verde’s smallest island is basically uninhabited but draws yachters like honey draws flies. The island is low-lying, which. means lots of sunshine, and the northeasterly trade winds make it a popular, but isolated, anchorage for yachts.

Cabo Verde: 7 Islands and 88 Days of Work & Travel

From January till April 2019, my partner and I spent 88 days working and traveling in Cabo Verde (aka 'Cape Verde'). You can find the itinerary in this blog post:
This African country lies in the North Atlantic Ocean west of Dakar, Senegal. The archipelago comprises 10 islands, of which 9 are inhabited. We visited 7 out of 9 visitable islands in this order: Sal, São Nicolau, São Vicente (1), Santo Antão, Saõ Vicente (2), Fogo (1), Brava, Fogo (2), and Santiago with the island capital Praia. I wrote several mighty useful blog posts on how to get visa extensions, SIM cards, and what to pack for Cabo Verde on my website
As Digital Nomads, we both work and travel at the same time. We wrote a short guide on how to combine work and travel in Cabo Verde which can now find on our website
It's free!

map of Cape Verde

Cape Verde , officially the Republic of Cabo Verde, is an archipelago and island country in the central Atlantic Ocean, consisting of ten volcanic islands with a combined land area of about 4,033 square kilometres (1,557 sq mi). These islands lie between 600 to 850 kilometres (320 to 460 nautical miles) west of Cap-Vert, the westernmost point of continental Africa. The Cape Verde islands form part of the Macaronesia ecoregion, along with the Azores, the Canary Islands, Madeira, and the Savage Isles.

The Cape Verde archipelago was uninhabited until the 15th century, when Portuguese explorers discovered and colonized the islands, thus establishing the first European settlement in the tropics. Because the Cape Verde islands were located in a convenient location to play a role in the Atlantic slave trade, Cape Verde became economically prosperous during the 16th and 17th centuries, attracting merchants, privateers, and pirates. It declined economically in the 19th century due to the suppression of the Atlantic slave trade, and many of its inhabitants emigrated during that period. However, Cape Verde gradually recovered economically by becoming an important commercial center and useful stopover point along major shipping routes. In 1951, Cape Verde was incorporated as an overseas department of Portugal, but its inhabitants continued to campaign for independence, which they achieved in 1975.

Since the early 1990s, Cape Verde has been a stable representative democracy, and has remained one of the most developed and democratic countries in Africa. Lacking natural resources, its developing economy is mostly service-oriented, with a growing focus on tourism and foreign investment. Its population of around 483,628 (as of the 2021 Census) is mostly of mixed African and European heritage, and predominantly Roman Catholic, reflecting the legacy of Portuguese rule. A sizeable Cape Verdean diaspora community exists across the world, especially in the United States and Portugal, considerably outnumbering the inhabitants on the islands. Cape Verde is a member state of the African Union.

Cape Verde's official language is Portuguese. It is the language of instruction and government. It is also used in newspapers, television, and radio. The recognized national language is Cape Verdean Creole, which is spoken by the vast majority of the population. he archipelago of modern-day Cape Verde was formed approximately 40–50 million years ago during the Eocene era.

Before the arrival of Europeans, the Cape Verde Islands were uninhabited. They were discovered by Genoese and Portuguese navigators around 1456. According to Portuguese official records,[16] the first discoveries were made by Genoa-born António de Noli, who was afterwards appointed governor of Cape Verde by the Portuguese king Afonso V. Other navigators mentioned as contributing to discoveries on the Cape Verde archipelago are Diogo Dias, Diogo Afonso, Venetian Alvise Cadamosto, and Diogo Gomes (who had accompanied António de Noli on his voyage of discovery, and who claimed to have been the first to land on the Cape Verdean island of Santiago, and the first to name that island).

In 1462, Portuguese settlers arrived at Santiago and founded a settlement they called Ribeira Grande. Today it is called Cidade Velha (Old City), to distinguish it from a town of the same name on a different Cape Verdean island (Ribeira Grande on the island of Santo Antão). The original Ribeira Grande was the first permanent European settlement in the tropics.

A view of Monte Cara from Mindelo
In the 16th century, the archipelago prospered from the Atlantic slave trade. Pirates occasionally attacked the Portuguese settlements. Francis Drake, an English privateer, twice sacked the (then) capital Ribeira Grande in 1585 when it was a part of the Iberian Union. After a French attack in 1712, the town declined in importance relative to nearby Praia, which became the capital in 1770.

Decline in the slave trade in the 19th century resulted in an economic crisis. Cape Verde's early prosperity slowly vanished. However, the islands' position astride mid-Atlantic shipping lanes made Cape Verde an ideal location for re-supplying ships. Because of its excellent harbour, the city of Mindelo, located on the island of São Vicente, became an important commercial centre during the 19th century. Diplomat Edmund Roberts visited Cape Verde in 1832. Cape Verde was the first stop of Charles Darwin's voyage with HMS Beagle in 1832. mapa de cabo verde , #caboverde, #capeverde ,

Cabo Verde (Africa) Vacation Travel Video Guide

✱ 655 Hotels in Cabo Verde - Lowest Price Guarantee ►

Travel video about destination Cabo Verde.
Cape Verde is an exotic island world, an archipelago off the coast of West Africa it combines the flair of the Canaries with the charm of Africa. Explorers Christopher Columbus and Vasco Ad Gama lay anchor there in order to replenish supplies and repair their ships. It was not until 1445 that the fifteen islands were discovered and consequently became a Portuguese colony. We begin in the north east of the islands, in Sal. Crystal blue sea and endless sandy beaches, islands of both wind and sunshine with a volcanic lunar landscape twenty five kilometres long and twelve kilometres wide. Sal owes its name and colonization to its once most important export of salt which was to be found in huge quantities. Baia Da Fontana, close to Palmeira, appears like a shady oasis with various green trees that provide welcome shelter from the heat and in the background the dominant Monte Leste volcano where the slopes reach down to the shore and the splendid rock pools of Buracona. Mindelo, situated on the island São Vicente, is considered to be the cultural centre of the archipelago in which typical Creole art has been preserved. Sparse, raw and untamed it is dominated by powerful, almost mystical mountains. Santo Antão is an island of mountains, wind and water and the second largest island of Cape Verde. Its most important route is a road over the high mountains. The views of the Paúl Valley take the breath away. A fairytale world of stone which looks truly surreal. Against the background of the scenery, clouds entangle themselves within the mountains and provide life-giving moisture. Each island is unique and possesses its own special charm. Cabo Verde - islands full of light and joie de vivre!
