Switzerland is a rather small country but has plenty of beautiful villages. Many of them have maintained their traditional appearance, which has attracted numerous tourists from all over the world. The diversity of the Swiss villages has fascinated many visitors, whichever region you visit, the villages all look unique and different. Some people say that you only will get to feel the authentic villages, when you choose to visit one or more of the many traditional villages. But which ones are worth to visit? With this video, I proudly present you my TOP 10 MOST BEAUTIFUL VILLAGES OF SWITZERLAND for the year 2023 in detail. I am sure that you may be familiar with a few of these 10 villages, but the majority on this list will most likely be new to you! This is likely the most detailed travel guide video about Swiss villages here on YouTube! Wonderful Marthalen lays in northern Switzerland in Zürich’s wine land region. The village charms with its many wood frame houses and alleys. Marthalen is best to be visited during Spring and Summer, when the entire landscape shines in green. Nearby attractions would be the village of Rheinau with its monastery and the Rhine falls, Europe’s tallest river waterfall. Gandria in Ticino is a beautiful hanging fishing village just at the boarder to Italy. Gandria is best to be visited by boat from Lugano, Morcote or Porlezza. The village has numerous stairs and alleys and feels like a maze, quite exciting! Poschiavo is located in the Italian-speaking part of the canton of Graubünden. The village is rather large and the most alive among all of these villages on this Top 10 list. The village also has a very interesting history one can learn about in the three local museums. Lessoc is a rather secret village located in Fribourg. It’s less noticed due to the more famous nearby towns of Gruyères and Château d’Oex. Lessoc is great for those visitors who want to avoid crowds. Sonogno is the uppermost village in the very touristy Valle Verzasca. It’s very popular among Swiss and German visitors but remains rather unknown to the rest of the world. The village charms with its traditional stone houses and alleys. Albinen is the hidden gem of this list. It’s very similar to Grimentz but the core is larger and there are more details to discover. The village is very raw, alone this fact is a strong reason for anyone to come here. Albinen is best to be combined with nearby Leukerbad, the Swiss oasis of wellness. Morcote remains a favorite for anyone who loves alluring villages. It’s similar to Gandria but busier. Consider climbing the hill to enjoy a great vista down to the church. Lungern is probably the most popular village on this Top 10 villages list. Lungern has been admired for its green hills and turquoise lake, definitely a wonderful alpine oasis to visit. Iseltwald, the winner of Last years’ Top 10 villages list does not seize to amaze its visitors. The village is full of these wonderful wooden houses that well blend with the lake and the green hills. Iseltwald is great to be included into a holiday at Interlaken. The winner of this year’s Top 10 Swiss Villages is Bosco Gurin! This place remains very raw despite its incredible beauty! Bosco Gurin is the perfect serene village one would seek to find. Enjoy walking around in the many alleys, spotting the traditional stone and wooden houses and enjoy the alpine environment. Baden-Baden is a spa town in the Black Forest, located in south-west Germany near the French border. In the 19th century, Baden-Baden developed into a fashionable spa town thanks to its thermal baths. The Lichtentaler Allee, lined with parks, runs along the Oos and is the city's main promenade. The casino, which was modeled after the Palace of Versailles, is also part of the Kurhaus complex, which was built in 1824. The pump room of the Kurhaus has a frescoed foyer and a mineral fountain.

Our journey begins in Koblenz. In around 1000 A.D. a castle was built on a knoll on the east bank of the Rhine and Castle Ehrenbreitstein gradually developed. Europe’s second largest fortress was given its appearance as we see it today, between 1817 and 1828. From the Middle Ages to the late eighteenth century, Koblenz was the residence of the powerful archbishops of Trier and in 1794 it was taken over by France and in 1815, by Prussia. Following the Rhine, our journey leads to Boppard where town houses, stately homes and churches form the romantic old town. After the invasion of the Alemanni, a city wall was built in order to protect what was a toll castle and today the town has developed into an attractive tourist destination surrounded by woods and vineyards. We pass by a high rock on a sharp bend where the Rhine is barely a hundred and thirteen metres wide. Legend tells of a beautiful mermaid, Loreley , who enchanted and distracted sailors with her singing in order that their boats would be destroyed on the rocks. Soon, the river becomes more tranquil. Slowly the craggy slopes change to vineyards and the river valley widens. Bacharach nestles in the confluence of the Steeger Valley, into the extensive Rhine Valley, protected by a sturdy wall. Above the town is the Stahleck Fortress that was first recorded in 1095 and became the residence of the Count Of Palatine On The Rhine, in 1142. The conclusion of our journey, Rüdesheim is a picturesque town that boasts more visitors than residents, its sunny location making it ideal for viticulture. A mediaeval church, wooden buildings and stately homes, and the famous Drosselgasse, characterise the city. The Middle Rhine Valley reflects the history of Europe. With cultural monuments and cultivated countryside, crowded settlements along narrow banks and various noble castles situated on rocky ledges, it is a reflection of the romantic history of times gone by.

We start by entering France and ride through some villages and small towns. After a while we cross the border in to Germany again and then follow the Mosel valley north to the picturesque town of Cochem.
The following day we'll visit Nürburgring and then continue our tour north.

It's time to leave Füssen and head north west. We leave the Alps region and ride along lake Bodensee.
The scenery isn't as dramatic as the high mountains but we enjoy the ride and have a wonderful day.
The following day we'll cross the French border and after a while enter Germany again and ride north along the Mosel valley.

Wir starten am Untere Steig mit Blick auf das Kloster Rheinau unseren Rundgang durch Rheinau. Durch die Ochsenstraße gehen wir die Zollstraße hinunter bis zur Holzbrücke über den Rhein, welche nach Deutschland führt. Über den Salmenweg geht es zurück durch die Austrasse und die Ochsengasse bis zur Poststrasse. Der Rundgang endet in der Schulstrasse mit einem Blick von oben auf Rheinau.

For our last dive in 2021 we chose the dive site Alte Zollbrücke in Rheinau.
While visibility was not as great as it often is, we still had fun and discovered a few new things, like the new christmas tree and the nativity diorama.
